I am an Urgent Care physician. I have tried to work with this clinic to assist in helping a common patient (they are assigned as her primary care provider). However, because this patient is moving to California and will not be under their primary care after 2 weeks, when her new insurance takes over, they are refusing to assist in the care. HMO groups require orders for referral or imaging like CT, MRI, and ultrasound to come from their primary doctor or physician in network. This clinic's answer to getting this recommended test ordered was to have the patient go to the emergency room in a covid-19 epicenter of disease where covid-19 positive patients are waiting in the emergency room to get a bed in the hospital. This patient is a high risk patient and cannot afford to contract covid-19. So rather than take the 5 minutes to order this test they recommended the patient go to an Emergency Room for 3-5 hours and be exposed to a disease that has the potential to kill her. Per their website the "CMC providers are committed to developing long-term relationships with their patients and see and treat the whole person, and to help patients live longer, healthier lives. Through this partnership, our physicians can help you prevent, understand and manage illness, navigate the health system and set health goals." I believe this to be false at best and malpractice at worse. I would not allow my own family to be treated by this facility even if it was the last option available to me.
