Melanie went out of her way to accommodate my husband and me when we came in to get Covid tests. Due to our unforeseen scheduling error, we didn't have an appointment at that time, but she said we could wait in case she could fit us in between patients, even though they were fully booked. She was able to complete our tests quickly and courteously. We were extremely pleased with the care we received. Thanks, Melanie!

Wait time was good, got in at 1:40pm for my 1:30pm appointment. Staff was friendly and explained things to me. I did kind of get the impression that they were tired of me because I was trying to ask clarifying questions to make sure that later on I will not be thinking about the questions I was afraid to ask :P. It’s very easy for me to just accept what I’m told, and not ask anything, but I’m trying to learn to advocate for myself because it seems like that’s what is needed in healthcare. But I could tell they were definitely getting tired of me asking my dumb questions and just repeating answers they already gave because I was obviously didn’t hear it the first time. I probably need to work on my communication skills because I don’t feel like either of us felt like we were getting through to the other person. It felt like we both felt like we knew what the other person was saying and that they just weren’t willing to hear it.

Dr Fitzpatrick was thoughtful and attentive and did what tests she could. Her diagnosis of pneumonia was not confirmed by the staff at CPMC, however. It seems I have some sort of infection, maybe more than one—perhaps bronchitis for one. The high pulse rate was due to dehydration. BTW the X-ray copy I took to the hospital was incompatible with its system. Nonetheless I appreciate the care I was given at Carbon.

San Mateo Chlamydia Testing

Who should get tested for chlamydia?

According to the CDC, sexually active women under the age of 25, older women with new or multiple sex partners, and men who have sex with men should all be tested for chlamydia annually. It's also advisable for anyone with a partner who has been diagnosed with an STD/STI to get tested.

Importance of getting tested

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for chlamydia are also available. These can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis.

Prevalence of chlamydia in San Mateo

While specific data for San Mateo is not readily available, according to the CDC, California has a higher rate of chlamydia compared to the national average. It's important to note that rates may vary within the state, and factors such as population density, access to healthcare, and sexual behavior can influence these numbers.

Risk factors related to chlamydia in San Mateo

Risk factors for chlamydia include being sexually active, having multiple sexual partners, not using condoms consistently, and having a history of STDs. Social and economic factors such as lack of access to healthcare, poverty, and stigma can also increase the risk.

Other STDs in San Mateo

In addition to chlamydia, other STDs such as gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis are also a concern in San Mateo. Similar to chlamydia, these STDs can often be asymptomatic, making regular testing crucial. The testing locations mentioned above also offer testing services for these STDs.
