Everybody was very friendly and helpful. Some boxes laying around in the hallway but not a big deal at all as the care I received was great.

My whole body skin has allergy and infected reaction. I’m in extremely painful the passed couple of days. The doctor didn’t give me any medicine and descriptions. I spend 120 dollars for nothing. It definitely not a Miliaria. Now I need to wait and spend more money to find someone can actually support me.

On August 2, 2020 I was told to do push-ups by Dr. Uchenna Okoronkwo to treat my neck, back, and hand injury. Crazy experience and worst advice ever. Let me back up some... I went to the Sutter Health Urgent Care in Castro Valley, CA because I had recently been in an auto accident and was experiencing neck, lower back, and left hand pain (I grabbed the seat belt with my left hand to brace for impact). I was seen by Dr. Uchenna Okoronkwo, which was a horrible experience. He was far from warm and welcoming, rather he was very callous. I described the accident to him as well as the pain I was feeling. He said he would do an Xray of my hand but would not do them for my neck and lower back (even though I could barely turn my head). When I asked why he said he saw no need to do, that and to get rid of the neck pain he said I could just do push-ups against a counter. He proceeded to demonstrate how to do the push-ups by placing his hands on the counter in the office and going up and down. I looked at him in disbelief. I told him that even if I wanted to it would be impossible because my hand was injured during the accident. He then said I can just do one-handed push-ups, as proceeded to demonstrate the movement with one hand on the counter. I immediately asked for a 2nd opinion, after which he shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the room. I have never been so upset with a doctor. His whole demeanor toward me was disrespectful and unprofessional. It felt as though he was trying to shoo me away as opposed to actually treat me. Never in my life had I heard of one handed push-ups being a pain reliever, and I honestly felt like I wasted my time and, more importantly, money going to see him. I complained to the Urgent Care Risk Specialist, Robby Livaudais, after-which I received a letter from him stating that the stakeholders agreed that push-ups was an "appropriate" form of care, which didn't make sense. I asked to speak to the doctor who felt it was "appropriate", which was Dr. Patricio Chavez. During my conversation with this doctor I was informed that the "stakeholders" referenced in the letter was Dr. Okoronkwo (the push-up doctor) and Dr. Chavez (his supervisor). Dr. Chavez admitted that he was biased when it comes to his staff. He also said he doesn't know why I was told to do push-ups (which would cause more pain) and that maybe it was because Dr. Okoronkwo was prior military, both in his native African country as well as in the USA. Dr. Chavez stated that he would not have used the word "appropriate" to classify this standard of care (yet it's what was listed in the letter). He also said he would have never told any of his patients to do push-ups and don't know any other physician that would have said that would be okay to do. When I asked if he counseled Dr. Okoronkwo and what the counseling entailed he responded that he told Dr. Okoronkwo to be a little more careful and Dr. Okoronkwo said "okay" (a really brief conversation in passing). I feel like I'm not only getting the run around, but there is some unethical behavior going on at this facility. I got a letter stating that the care given was appropriate yet no one is verbally saying they agree with that letter (so on paper I'm seeing one thing but over the phone I am being told another). I am completely dissatisfied with this whole experience, and to date nothing has been resolved.

    Is a flu shot necessary?

Everyone 6 months or older should get vaccinated for the flu every year. Influenza, or the flu, is a serious virus and infection that hospitalizes and kills thousands of people annually. And it is constantly changing. The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your family from contracting the virus.

  • image/svg+xml image/svg+xml

Do I need to get a flu shot every year?

Flu vaccines are needed annually, primarily for two reasons. First, the flu virus is constantly evolving, meaning the virus you received a vaccine for last year is unique from the virus in the upcoming season. As such, the vaccine itself needs to be different. Second, the vaccine itself wears off and your immune system’s response to the flu virus decreases over time. Unless you receive the vaccine every year, you will lack necessary immunity.

When should I get a flu shot?

Each year is a little different, but flu season generally starts as early as September. Getting a flu shot early in the season - August to October - gives your buddy the best opportunity to build up immunity to the virus as it does take roughly two weeks for the vaccine to protect you against infection. Of course, if you are unable to get the flu shot early, getting a flu shot later still helps as the virus could last through May.

  • image/svg+xml image/svg+xml

How effective is the flu shot?

Each year, the CDC and other organizations conduct studies to determine the effectiveness of the flu vaccine against that years flu virus. According to the CDC, recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60%. Of course, there are multiple types and strands of the flu virus including influenza B and influenza A(H1N1), as well as influenza A(H3N2). Generally speaking, flu shots tend to work better against influenza types A & B.

  • image/svg+xml image/svg+xml

How long does a flu shot last?

The flu vaccine lasts for one flu season as the virus constantly evolves and each year the vaccine is produced to specifically protect against the strand(s) that are prevalent in the upcoming flu season.

How much does a flu shot cost?

Depending on where you get your flu vaccine, what type of vaccine you are getting, and whether or not you are insured, flu shot costs vary. Generally speaking, however, flu shots can cost between $0 and $50, sometimes more.

Flu shot Reviews for Union City

"Just in for a flu shot but made my urgent care appointment online and had minimal wait. Everything taken care of in a friendly and prompt manner."

"This urgent care is awesome!! They are fast and efficient. Both the front desk ladies were super nice. They helped me with my paperwork to expedite my visit. The young lady in the back was also very nice and gave one of the best flu shots I have ever had. The doctor was even nice enough to stop by and greet me, even though I was not there for a doctor's visit, I was just getting a flu shot. This is a super staff and I would highly recommend this clinic for all your medical needs."

"My daughter was experiencing high anxiety because we went to get a flu shot. She was uncooperative and crying. The staff was calm, caring, and attentive. They explained what was going to happen in five-year-old terms and got the job done. The immunization was given before my daughter could even realize it! Once we got into the car, she requested "to only have shots like that one that didn't hurt." Though we can't guarantee that shots won't hurt, it is nice to have a guarantee of exceptional care. I can confidently say, that we have had that "guarantee" over the last five years of my child's life that we have periodically visited this urgent care."
