This my 1st time at this Urgent Care, and it will not be my last. My appt went very smooth, the receptionist was very welcoming, along with all the other girls, and the gentleman who took my chest x-rays. The doctor was very attentive and allowed me to explain my symptoms to her, and decided to do a couple tests to rule out pneumonia, also a streptococcus test, she's phenomenal literally. I Haven't been to an Urgent Care like this ever. I'm definitely returning. It's very clean. Lastly, I was actually seen at my appt time with no wait, which also won me Over. My visit was on 11/19/23 around 415pm, I think. Check-in was fast actually did everything online, which made everything much easier.

Service was great, but I can not get my results. When I clicked on the texted link, it took me to an app. I tried to download it, and it would not let me. I called the phone number as I was instructed to and no one answered. I sure would like my test results. If I cannot get them, I guess I’ll need to go somewhere else. I’m not happy.

What is urgent care?

Urgent care is a category of walk-in clinic focused on the delivery of immediate, non-life-threatening care. These centers bridge the gap between primary care doctors, who may not be available for same-day appointments, and hospital emergency rooms, which are intended for more severe health conditions. Urgent care centers are designed to treat a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, and are often open during evenings and weekends, providing a convenient healthcare option for many people.

Common services and reasons for visit

Urgent care centers offer a wide range of services, often including:

  • Illness treatment: This includes common conditions such as colds, flu, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and strep throat.
  • Injury treatment: Urgent care centers can treat minor injuries like sprains, strains, minor fractures, and cuts requiring stitches.
  • Preventive care: Many centers provide preventive services like vaccinations, health screenings, and physical exams.
  • Diagnostic services: This includes lab tests and imaging services like X-rays.

People typically visit urgent care centers when they need immediate care but can't get a timely appointment with their primary care doctor, or when their condition is not severe enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room.

Types of healthcare providers

At an urgent care center, you might encounter several types of healthcare providers, each with their own role and level of training:

  • Physicians: These are medical doctors (MDs) or doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) who have completed medical school and residency training. They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, and can prescribe medication.
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs): NPs are registered nurses with advanced training and education, often at the master's level. They can diagnose and treat conditions, prescribe medication, and may serve as a patient's primary care provider.
  • Physician Assistants (PAs): PAs are medical professionals who have completed a master's program and are licensed to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, often under the supervision of a physician.
  • Registered Nurses (RNs): RNs provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients about their health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.

Each of these providers brings a unique skill set and perspective to patient care, and they often work together as a team to ensure patients receive comprehensive, high-quality care.

When to go to an urgent care

In Los Angeles, urgent care centers are often the go-to solution for non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt attention. These facilities are designed to handle minor medical emergencies that can't wait for a scheduled doctor's appointment but don't warrant a visit to the emergency room. Examples of such conditions include minor fractures, sprains, burns, cuts and wounds requiring stitches, severe cold or flu symptoms, ear or sinus pain, urinary tract infections, and allergic reactions.

Urgent care vs emergency room (ER)

Urgent care centers and emergency rooms both provide immediate care but they cater to different medical needs. While urgent care centers are equipped to handle non-life-threatening conditions, emergency rooms are designed for severe and life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, severe bleeding, or injuries from a serious car accident. Emergency rooms are open 24/7 but can be more expensive and have longer wait times. On the other hand, urgent care centers in Los Angeles have extended hours, are more affordable, and typically have shorter wait times.

Urgent care vs primary care

Primary care physicians are typically the first point of contact for patients seeking preventive care, routine check-ups, and treatment for common illnesses and chronic conditions. They also manage and coordinate a patient's overall healthcare. However, getting an appointment with a primary care physician can take time. In contrast, urgent care centers provide immediate care for non-life-threatening conditions that can't wait for a scheduled doctor's appointment. They offer extended hours and don't require an appointment, making them a convenient option for immediate, non-emergency care.

Urgent care vs retail clinic

Retail clinics, often found in pharmacies or supermarkets, provide care for minor illnesses and preventive services like vaccinations. They are typically staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants and have limited diagnostic equipment. Urgent care centers, on the other hand, are equipped to handle a broader range of conditions, including minor emergencies. They have more advanced equipment and are staffed by board-certified physicians. While both offer walk-in appointments, urgent care centers in Los Angeles provide a higher level of care and have extended hours, making them a more comprehensive option for immediate, non-emergency care.

What to Expect with Your Visit

Urgent care centers in Los Angeles provide immediate, quality healthcare for non-life-threatening conditions. These centers offer extended hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate your busy schedule. You can expect a typical visit to include a medical examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Most centers also offer on-site lab testing and X-rays for your convenience.

Preparing for Your Visit

Proper preparation can ensure a successful and efficient urgent care visit. Here's what you can do:

  • Bring your insurance card and a photo ID.
  • Have a list of your current medications, including dosages.
  • Know your medical history, including any allergies and past surgeries.
  • Write down your symptoms and any questions you have for the provider.

During Your Visit

During your visit, you will first check in at the front desk. After a short wait, a healthcare professional will escort you to an examination room. Here, they will take your vital signs and ask about your symptoms and medical history.

Examination and Diagnosis

The provider will then perform a physical examination and, if necessary, order diagnostic tests such as blood tests or X-rays. Once the provider has made a diagnosis, they will discuss your treatment options with you.

Treatment

Treatment may include prescription medication, stitches, splints, or other medical procedures. If your condition is more serious, the provider may refer you to a specialist or an emergency room.

Follow-up Care and Communication

Before you leave the urgent care center, the provider will give you instructions for home care and any necessary follow-up appointments. Most centers will also communicate with your primary care physician to ensure continuity of care. If you have any questions after your visit, don't hesitate to call the center for clarification.

Cost and Insurance Details

The average out-of-pocket cost for an urgent care visit ranges from $71 to $125 for basic care. Additional costs may apply for services like shots, X-rays, and lab tests. This is significantly less than a comparable emergency room visit, which averages around $1,318. Most urgent care centers in Los Angeles accept commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. However, it's always a good idea to confirm coverage with your insurance provider before your visit.

This was definitely the coolest Urgent Care I ever visited. Went in with a sprained wrist. I did make an appointment. After filling out one form I waited hardly 5 minutes to be seen. Everyone is super nice, facility is very clean, beautiful plants in the lobby helping the distancing from the counter and great music (we Shizamed a few songs throughout the visit). The whole visit took u see an hour and that included x-ray! And Lilian the Physician called the the next morning to follow up. Fantastic experience!

Dr. Pierce is awesome. She is caring and attentive, and her wonderful bedside manner helped make our sick 1-year-old feel at ease throughout her two visits. Plus, the facility is impeccably clean and the waiting room is comfortable. I will highly recommend PM Pediatrics to anyone in the area who's in the unfortunate position of needing an urgent care facility for their kid. This place is top-notch.

The only issue I had was that I wasn't able to make a future appointment for future Covid test online. My options were to make an urgent care appt OR telemed appt. On Friday afternoon I ended up making telemed appt for Sunday and just arrived at Reliant at my appt time. When I was greeted by the care worker, I explained the situation and she called Reliant and let them know I was waiting outside. I was met by personnel in a timely manner and everything was quick, efficient, and friendly. Kudos for service. Extra kudos to staff. Though confusing online, everything was handled well. Better than expected! Thank you!

Went to the ER the day before and they misdiagnosed me and had not tested me for anything. Valley Urgent Care gave me the appropriate tests, gave me medication for my pain while waiting and has me out in about 2 hours on a BUSY day. Thank you! Excited to start feeling better!

I've always been impressed with MVP Pediatric Urgent Care. We recently visited for a COVID-19 test required for my child's team sport. MVP made it so easy! We just called from our car when we arrived for our appt. and the nurses came out right away. Both were very sweet and efficient. We were done in about 5 minutes and received results within 24 hours.

Blown away and so glad my son's doctor recommended them. Had an amazing experience. The doctor was extremely thorough and so kind to my son. For what we were dealing with they did an amazing job to make us feel better and more importantly a treatment plan to help my son. Moving forward I will only go here for my kids if they need urgent care.

We had such a good experience bringing our 16 month old to MVP pediatric urgent care! He came down with a high fever, and of course it was Sunday morning, the one day our pediatrician’s office is closed 🤦‍♀️ MVP came recommended by a friend and had great reviews online so we decided to try it. It was super clean, the doctor and nurse were very friendly & thorough, and it was great to be at an urgent care that specializes in pediatrics. I would highly recommend & we will go here from now on if we need to visit an urgent care with one of our children.

Hands down the best urgent care I’ve had my child seen at. They made me feel at ease when I was very worried they took good care of my 7 month old. I appreciate the entire staff who helped especially Daniel who assisted me with making arrangements to go in.

We have been going to this Urgent Care and we love it, the doctors are very accommodating the nurses have been great, except for today I just want to point it out that it is crucial to hire nurses that are more compassionate especially they are catering to children that are sick. Doing the job fast is understandable but they also have to show some finesse when attending to children. And this is in particular to Peter the nurse at that time. Other than that I love going to this urgent care

I was assisted over a video call the wait holding for doctor was longer than I expected but it was worth it they took the time to listen to my concern and they were able to relate and not only prescribe me medication that help my problem.. My Dr. office was no help and didn’t even try to offer me anything just that I had to wait on my blood results. I would definitely recommend this urgent care center.

My daughter’s pediatrician recommended MVP urgent care after my young daughter tripped while running at church camp. Their office is beautiful and comforting for children with their local beach theme decor. The staff was efficient and kind. The doctor was so honest and best-result centered that he recommended a plastic surgeon for the stitches, who was kind enough to drive to the urgent care in the evening hours. My daughter got the best care from both Dr. Epstein and Dr. Andrew Cohen who drove in for a quick but well done sealing to the lip area impacted by her tripping at camp. My daughter kept distracted with comforting movies and the doctors made her feel at ease. The staff stayed late for us - they close at 10:00p and we left by 9:00pm but it was nice to have immediate top notch care all resolved within hours of the tripping. We are grateful for their taken care of her efficiently but very throughly and meticulously. Thanks to All! Crystal B.

Visiting an Urgent care isn't something to look forward to but sometimes necessary. I'm sure glad places like MVP exist. since I found this place they are my Go To Urgent Care for my 2-boys. MVP Is like the "Chick-fil-A" of Urgent care. They honestly do a great job selecting their very courteous staff. I really was impressed with the friendliness and professional staff on my first visit last year. I have since visited twice for other urgent care needs for my little ones and have continually been amazed at the professionalism of the staff at the front desk, service by nurses and communication by the Doctors recommendations. Lastly thank you to everyone at MVP.

The online application was easy and the call back from the nurse was only an hour. The whole process is Very fast! It only took 5 minutes from the time I parked in the parking lot for the nurse to suit up and come out to my car to take a nasal swab for COVID test. Thank you Valley Urgent Care!

Our first visit and MVP Pediatric was hands down the best. Starting from the call on our way in, all the way through check out. As unpleasant as a trip to the urgent care always is, the staff, nurse and doctor were truly awesome. Thanks for taking such good care of my boy!

I did not have to wait long, and the gentleman was incredible helpful with options to set up a covid test or to meet with a provider; I also appreciate that he went ahead and set up my test on my behalf so that check-in was easy when I got to the Urgent Care office.

Great Urgent Care! It is very clean, everyone that works there is very polite and friendly. I would highly recommend this place if you need to go to an urgent care. Doctor Zucker listened to all my concerns and took the time to answer my questions and worked very well with my daughter.

We went twice in three days (for two different kiddos) and the first time we were there for about 2 hours but the second time we were there for about 30-45 minutes. The staff is amazing and we drive the 15 miles to make sure we see a pediatrician urgent care not just a general urgent care.

It was 10pm on a Friday night and I needed to see a Doctor. I looked online and randomly chose Reliant Urgent Care at LAX. I called several times and nobody answered. WTF? That doesn’t seem very Reliant to me. Not a good sign. I decided to go anyway. So, I went to Reliant LAX Urgent Care expecting the worst. The very worst. How could it not be? It's at LAX, right? Had to be All Bad. I was so WRONG. Filled out all the paperwork online before going. Walked in and the place was packed. Ugh! Went out to move my car, came back and was called 5 minutes later. NO long wait! No other paperwork! Nurse walked into the exam room behind me. Doctor walked in 5 minutes later. Explained everything thoroughly -answered all my questions. Less than 5 minutes later, the "Shot" guy jabbed me with a dose of Antibiotics --painlessly! and done! Every person that helped me was SUPER nice and knew how to do their job [for once]. Plus- the office was modern and nice and pleasant. ....and my visit was completely covered by insurance. (Medi Cal) I don't know these people and Nobody asked me to write this. We're all quick to rag about incompetent terrible service, but it's time people who do an outstanding job are commended. This was definitely not the grimey back alley morgue I convinced myself it was going to be. I’m so happy I chose this place. **My only complaint: Fix the phone system. Reliant Urgent Care has several locations and they all have the same phone number. It was impossible to call them to find out if they were open or if they could even help me; or if they would accept my insurance. Someone needs to answer the phone. In an urgent situation I need to speak to someone who can assure me they’re going to do whatever they can to help.
