I was able to schedule the appointment on Saturday night, even though the office was closed, through an on line system. You can even take a photo copy of your medical insurance card through the computer system. The nurse greeted and placed me in a room. The physician was thorough and patient as she evaluated my medical situation. I highly recommend this medical service.

What is urgent care?

Urgent care is a category of walk-in clinic focused on the delivery of immediate, non-life-threatening healthcare. It bridges the gap between your primary care physician and the emergency room, providing accessible medical attention when your regular doctor is unavailable or you need immediate care for a condition that is not severe enough to warrant a trip to the ER. Urgent care centers are typically open beyond traditional office hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays, making them a convenient option for many patients.

Common services and reasons for visit

Urgent care centers offer a wide range of services for various health concerns. Some of the most common reasons people visit include:

  • Minor fractures, sprains, and strains: Urgent care centers often have X-ray facilities on-site to diagnose and treat these types of injuries.

  • Cuts and burns: Minor to moderate cuts and burns can be treated at an urgent care center, including those that need stitches.

  • Common illnesses: Conditions like the flu, colds, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and strep throat can all be diagnosed and treated at an urgent care center.

  • Preventive care and screenings: Many urgent care centers provide routine physicals, immunizations, and health screenings.

  • Work-related injuries: Urgent care centers often provide occupational health services, including treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses.

Types of healthcare providers

At an urgent care center, you may encounter a variety of healthcare providers, each with their unique roles and areas of expertise. These may include:

  • Physicians: These are medical doctors (MDs) or doctors of osteopathy (DOs) who have completed medical school and residency training. They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions and may oversee other medical staff at the center.

  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs): NPs are registered nurses with advanced training and education, often including a master's or doctoral degree. They can diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medication, and may run their own practices in some states.

  • Physician Assistants (PAs): PAs are medical professionals who diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient’s principal healthcare provider. They train on the medical model and complete thousands of hours of medical training.

  • Registered Nurses (RNs): RNs provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. They have completed a nursing program and are licensed by the state.

  • Medical Assistants (MAs): MAs perform routine clinical and administrative tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.

When to go to an urgent care

Urgent care centers in St. Louis, MO, are designed to provide immediate, non-life-threatening medical attention. They are ideal for treating conditions that require prompt attention but aren't severe enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room. Examples include minor fractures, sprains, burns, cuts requiring stitches, severe cold or flu symptoms, urinary tract infections, and other similar conditions. Urgent care centers also offer services such as X-rays, lab tests, and vaccinations.

Urgent care vs emergency room (ER)

While both urgent care centers and emergency rooms provide immediate care, they cater to different medical needs. ERs are equipped to handle life-threatening emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, severe wounds, and traumatic injuries. On the other hand, urgent care centers are suitable for less severe conditions that still require prompt attention. Additionally, urgent care centers typically have shorter wait times and lower costs than ERs, making them a more convenient and affordable option for non-emergency situations.

Urgent care vs primary care

Primary care physicians are your go-to healthcare providers for routine check-ups, preventive care, and managing chronic conditions. They know your health history and provide personalized, long-term care. However, getting an immediate appointment can be challenging. Urgent care centers, on the other hand, do not require appointments and are open during evenings and weekends, making them ideal for sudden, non-emergency medical issues. They provide a higher level of care than a regular doctor's office, with the ability to perform minor procedures and tests.

Urgent care vs retail clinic

Retail clinics, often found in pharmacies or supermarkets, provide care for minor illnesses and injuries, just like urgent care centers. However, urgent care centers offer a broader range of services and can treat more serious conditions like fractures, severe burns, and severe flu symptoms. Urgent care centers also have diagnostic equipment like X-ray machines, which aren't typically available at retail clinics. Therefore, while retail clinics can be convenient for minor ailments, urgent care centers provide more comprehensive care when you need immediate attention.

What to Expect with Your Visit

Visiting an urgent care center in St. Louis, MO, is a straightforward process designed to provide quick, efficient healthcare. This guide will help you understand what to expect when you prepare for your visit, during your visit, and with follow-up care and communication. We'll also provide some information about cost and insurance details.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before you head to your urgent care appointment, there are a few things you can do to ensure a smooth visit. First, make sure to bring a form of identification and your insurance card. If you have any existing medical records or prescriptions, bring those along too. It's also a good idea to have a list of any allergies or current medications you're taking. If you're experiencing symptoms, try to note when they began and any factors that make them better or worse.

During Your Visit

During your visit to the urgent care center, you'll first check in at the front desk. You may need to fill out some paperwork if you're a new patient. After that, a healthcare provider will call you back to an examination room. Here, a healthcare professional will take your vitals, ask about your symptoms, and conduct a physical examination. Depending on your symptoms, you may need additional services like shots, x-rays, or lab tests.

Additional Services

Many urgent care centers offer additional services on-site. These can include x-rays, lab tests, stitches, and more. The provider will discuss any necessary additional services with you during your visit.

Follow-Up Care and Communication

After your visit, the healthcare provider will give you instructions for any necessary follow-up care. This could include taking prescribed medication, resting, or scheduling a follow-up appointment. If you have any questions after your visit, don't hesitate to reach out to the clinic. Most urgent care centers in St. Louis, MO, offer easy communication with healthcare providers through phone calls or online portals.

Cost and Insurance Details

Urgent care visits are typically more affordable than emergency room visits. The average out-of-pocket cost for an urgent care visit ranges from $71-$125 for basic care, with additional costs for services like shots, x-rays, and labs. In comparison, a comparable emergency room visit averages around $1,318. Most urgent care centers accept insurance, as well as both Medicare and Medicaid, making them a cost-effective choice for many patients.

Recent Urgent Care Reviews (20)

I went in with breathing issues they took me back immediately and started testing to find what was going on. I had pneumonia which I had asked my Doctor if he thought it was that at my appointment. I have been there several times and have been satisfied with the services. BEST urgent care in the area.

Because the lab to which I'd gone for my COVID PCR test never reported my results, I had to scramble at 5 am to find a facility at which to be tested. Thankfully, the agent at American Airlines directed me to Creve Coeur Urgent Care! Dr. Alazzani was able to do a rapid antigen test as soon as I arrived and Ms. Pickens handled all of the paperwork. Thanks to them, I was still able to get to Barbados on the day intended!

I must tell you that Megan was extraordinary. The nurse that initially saw me, also very uplifting. We have family friends living living in Jamaica and a young dad lost his life last week because, even though he was able to be hospitalized, he could not get the ICU bed that he needed. I am so grateful for my urgent care on church road and and for having resources that we so often take for granted. God bless and don't forget special accolades to Megan...front desk. Julia

Providence urgent care has a very professional friendly staff. The staff addressed my problem and listened to my concerns. I felt very safe from the corona virus as the facility was immaculate and the staff all wore mask. So thankful I chose Providence urgent care. Would definitely recommend it for my family and friends. Thank you so very much.

I prefer this location for all of our family’s urgent care needs. I visited today for a curbside Covid rest. I made an appointment and still waited 1.5 hours. I understand wait times, but why offer appointment times? I would much rather have come this morning and waited, than wait all day, come to an appt and wait some more. The doc that did my test was not overly friendly but professional. I appreciate this service being available and will continue to visit this location when the need arises.

They are always so nice and amazing with my kids!!! Even feeling awful from illness we always get a good laugh in there!!! They're extremely caring and the facility is always very clean!!! And it's so easy to get checked in , get in a room, and in no time you're done!!!! This is by far the best urgent care I've ever been too....I actually don't even goto their regular doctor office unless it's their regular check ups I'd rather come here because I feel extremely comfortable and not judged at all!!!! Family feel!!! :) Thank you for all your help!!!

I went in with breathing issues they took me back immediately and started testing to find what was going on. I had pneumonia which I had asked my Doctor if he thought it was that at my appointment. I have been there several times and have been satisfied with the services. BEST urgent care in the area.

Once again 5 star service from FNP Molly Omohondo. She is thorough, listens to your concerns and gets you in and out in a timely fashion. My only wish is that she could be used as a primary care physician. We LOVE her! I do think the appointment scheduling for Express Care is the dumbest thing JCMG could do. You have advertised for years as a first come first serve and I as a patient would be mad if I were not aware of the scheduling option and walked in and had been waiting a long time and then someone made an appointment and walks in and goes right back. Either be urgent care or not plus I witnessed an older gentleman trying to sign in on the app as a walk in and it was a joke. Your older generation is not going to like or understand this.

Called my primary doctor and appointments we’re unavailable. He told me to go to Urgent care or ER. Came to urgent care, checked in, filled out paperwork. Nurse taking vitals and info about the reason for my visit was very thorough and helpful!! Doctor came in assessing the situation and provided a diagnosis. She was very caring and knowledgeable!!!!

My Dr. was not in the office so they told me to go to Urgent Care. If I had known I could call ahead and scheduled a time, I would have done that. We had a long wait time. It would have been nice to be sitting at home and leave when my appointment was getting close. The care was great and the staff was great.

My visit to NextCare UrgentCare was good! I scheduled an appointment online and was able to get right in. There was not a wait at all and the medical assistant and provider were both very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend NextCare urgent care for anyone who has a need to see a provider but can’t get in to their primary care provider. They provide the best care of urgent care facilities in Lee’s Summit.

The nurses and doctor were very efficient, concerned with cleanliness and safety and thorough. They took time to listen to all of the symptoms and the situation. We felt reassured with the test results and the discharge instructions that were written down. Although they were scheduled to close 10 after our arrival, they stayed open to give my husband a flu test and results. This great care and service is why we always choose Providence Urgent Care!

Had an appointment and still had to wait 20 minutes before being seen. This time was not for paperwork because I was in earlier in the week. Also, what’s the purpose of making the patient upload their ID and insurance online if you still require it at check in. Seems like a waste of time for the patient to even bother uploading it before hand. Receptionist kept coughing into her hand, patients at check in use the same clipboards and pens without any cleaning occurring between uses. After completing rapid test, had to wait 15+ minutes for the nurse practitioner to stop by for less than a minute. Overall took almost an hour for less than 5 minutes of required time. I would not recommend to others due to the lack of regard to being an URGENT care.

Went in talk to receptionists had problems with the new signing in system so she was fast to help, let me fill out papers instead and she filled it out on computer. Then after a short wait nurse come out to take me back to the room .She was always nice and polite even though I had hearing problems. Doctor came in with in minutes after nurse left, The whole visit took about 35 to 40 min. They also called in my meds fast so when I picked them up they were ready with out a wait . Very pleased will be back if I need urgent care again.

My husband had got a sap poison in his eyes. They were burning really bad and watering and very bood shot. He also could not see very well. We went to urgent care and told them what happened. While we were checking in the doctor came out to see my husband. We went quicklyto a room and was seen. She checked out his eyes and put some deadening drops in them. What a relief!! However temporary. The doctor was GREAT!! Great bedside manner and care!!

Wait time was normal, doctor listened and was attentive, the receptionist was a little rude (not the main building receptionist, but the urgent care receptionist), but the rest of the staff was friendly, building and restrooms were all clean and well kept, and most importantly we got the medical care we needed!! Using Solv services was very helpful since I have to drive a long distance (1 hour drive) to get to Urgent Care and compared to previously going to Urgent Care without an appointment everything went a lot smoother.

I had an awesome visit. Katie was my medical professional and I cannot say enough about her compassion, bed side manners and making sure I was comfortable while I was getting treated. I called her a Doctor and she corrected me by saying ‘she’s a Nurse Practitioner’. In my eyes she’s a doctor. She is truly a God sent and really cares about her patient’s. I know during this Pandemic like many others; she was right there on the front line. Thank you 🙏 again Dr. Katie ☺️ and Urgent Care~

Overall, a horrible time. I got in at a decent time and didn’t see the doctor until 2 hours after being in the room. The nurse and doctor both rolled their eyes and had looks of confusion like I was speaking a foreign language, when I told them my symptom with what I was experiencing. It took the doctor over 45 minutes to give me my papers. The front desk lady, however, was amazing and very nice. I was in the urgent care for over 3 hours.
