York Hospital, York Walk-In Care - 343 US-1
These are the most pleasant and compassionate people when you don’t feel well, sustain an injury, or anything requiring medical attention. The waiting room is generally busy, but they do their best to keep you moving along. It takes someone very special to work in the medical industry whether it’s behind a desk, or a stethoscope. You need to have patience as a patient, as they will take care of you and you will be happy this was your walk-in of choice. You will leave with peace of mind knowing you received the best medical care possible. Thank you YH.

I called ClearChoiceMD on December 30th and spoke to Maria at the Portsmouth office I had two questions: one was for a rapid antigen Covid test for a trip and the other was a physical for my Master Captain Coast Guard license renewal. Maria was so kind and patient and worked hard to find the doctor that does the physicals at another branch in Maine and to make sure I had the needed covid test for my trip on January 4th to the Bahamas What a great asset she is to everyone that calls needing help and ClearChoiceMD

As a repeat customer my check in was quick with a 15 min wait to see a provider. The Staff/Dr was attentive during the explanation of my condition and quick to help me gain immediate access to a specialist the following day saving valuable time. This is the second time I’ve used CMd and they’re still batting a thousand in my book!

Getting Tested for STDs in Portsmouth, NH

Who should get tested for STDs?

Any sexually active person can get an STD, regardless of age, gender, race, or social class. According to the CDC, sexually active adults and adolescents aged 25 and under should get tested for STDs regularly. This is particularly important for those with multiple sexual partners or those who engage in unprotected sex. Regular testing is also recommended for men who have sex with men, as they are at a higher risk for certain infections.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial to maintaining your health and the health of your partners. Many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they show no signs or symptoms. Without testing, these diseases can go unnoticed and untreated, leading to serious health complications such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Testing is the only way to know for sure if you have an STD, and early detection can lead to more effective treatment.

Std testing options in Portsmouth, NH:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics provide convenient, same-day STD testing. These facilities typically offer a range of tests, including for HIV, herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. In Portsmouth, one highly-rated option is the York Hospital in nearby Kittery, ME, which has received positive reviews for its friendly staff and clean facilities. Appointments can be booked same-day or next-day through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers, such as family doctors and gynecologists, also offer STD testing. They can provide comprehensive sexual health services, including STD testing, treatment, and prevention education. If you have a primary care provider in Portsmouth, consider discussing your testing options with them.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who cannot afford testing, free STD testing is available at community health centers in and around Portsmouth. These centers provide confidential testing and treatment, regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits provide a private and convenient option for those who prefer to test themselves at home. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent back to a lab for testing. Results are usually available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Portsmouth

The prevalence of STDs in Portsmouth, and the broader Rockingham County, is reflective of national trends. According to the CDC, rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis have been on the rise in recent years. While Portsmouth's rates are generally lower than national averages, they are higher than some neighboring counties, such as Hampshire and Franklin counties.

Risk factors related to STDs in Portsmouth

Several risk factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Portsmouth. These include high rates of unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and a lack of regular testing. Additionally, certain populations, such as young people and men who have sex with men, are at a higher risk. Efforts to address these risk factors through education, prevention, and testing are critical to reducing the spread of STDs in Portsmouth.

STD Testing FAQs

  • Where should I get an STD test in Portsmouth?

In a doctor's office, a health clinic, or an urgent care center, you can get an STD test. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's best to visit a doctor's office, where they can also treat you or issue you a prescription. While some Portsmouth clinics and urgent care centers allow walk-in appointments, it's advisable to make an appointment ahead of time to prevent excessive waits.

  • How long does it take to get STD test results?

Various testing are required for various STDs. Depending on the type of STD test you took, you may receive your results in two to ten days. Some outcomes may be immediately available. Your doctor may be able to diagnose an STD through a physical examination. In some cases, your doctor's office may only contact you if your test results are positive.

  • How much does an STD test cost in Portsmouth?

The cost of STD testing is governed by several factors, including where you are tested, the type of test you need, and if you have health insurance. Some Portsmouth clinics may offer free testing or testing on a sliding scale based on your income. Because of the cost, don't put off obtaining an STD test. With your doctor's office, discuss the cost and payment choices. Delaying STD treatment may have catastrophic implications.

  • Does insurance cover STD testing in Portsmouth?

Some clinics may provide free or sliding-scale testing, depending on your income. Don't let the expense of an STD test deter you from getting one. With your doctor's office, discuss the price and payment choices. Delaying STD treatment could have catastrophic ramifications.

  • How do they test for STDs in Portsmouth?

There are around 20 different forms of STDs, each with its own set of diagnostic tests. No single test exists that can detect all types of STDs. Your doctor can help you figure out which tests you'll need. In STD testing, a blood sample or a urine sample may be used. Your doctor may also take a swab from the inside of your cheek, your vaginal area, or another potentially infected place.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

Blood tests are used to diagnose hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, HIV, and syphilis. In a laboratory, a technician examines a blood sample for antibodies that the body has produced in reaction to disease. The virus's DNA can also be detected by several blood tests. Remember that if you've recently been exposed to an STD and your body hasn't yet produced antibodies, you could test negative even if you have the disease.

  • Can I test myself for STDs at home?

Although there are several STD home tests available, not all of them are accurate. The accuracy of any STD test is determined by the quality of the sample taken. For home STD kits, a blood sample, a urine sample, or both are frequently required. Because doctors and nurses have more experience collecting samples, traditional in-office STD testing is the most accurate.
