Woke up this morning with pink eye in both eyes. Called my doctor's office first and felt verbally abused by the person on the phone, telling me I can't come in the office because I'm contagious. The person who called back told me I had to wait till 4 pm for the doctor to call back. I went on line and made the appointment in a few minutes. What a difference. The girl who came out and got me was so pleasant and the doctor was great. Will definitely go back and highly recommend them.

I’ve been so impressed with my 2 visits there, I bought my husband because he had bad cold & chest congestion. He’s hard to please with his medical care. And he was very impressed with the entire experience. Emily was on top of everything, as usual. Ordered chest x ray, made pneumonia diagnosis & ordered appropriate medications. Great job again! Thanks to all the staff. Short wait time.

I was pleased with my care, but very annoyed that I was charged a credit card convenience fee on an OCA Cafeteria Plan credit card. Not sure if the company will accept the convenience fee charge in addition to my copay. No fee should be charged for a non personal credit card.

South River HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care, according to the CDC. However, those at higher risk should get tested more often. This includes people who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who have had multiple partners since their last HIV test, and individuals who share needles or works to prepare drugs.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for a number of reasons. Firstly, it allows individuals to know their status and take necessary steps to protect their own health and that of others. Early detection can lead to early treatment, which can significantly improve long-term health outcomes and reduce the risk of transmission. Furthermore, it can help reduce the stigma associated with HIV, as it normalizes testing and encourages open conversation about sexual health.

HIV testing options in South River, NJ:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are a convenient option for HIV testing. They often offer same-day appointments, short wait times, and friendly staff. Live Urgent Care in nearby Spotswood, NJ is a highly-rated option, with a 4.95 rating from 683 reviews. Appointments can be easily booked through Solv's website or mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another good option for HIV testing. They can provide a comprehensive health check-up and can offer follow-up care and treatment if needed.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Free STD testing is available at community health centers in and around South River. These centers often provide other health services, making them a one-stop-shop for health care.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for HIV are also available. These kits allow individuals to test themselves for HIV in the privacy of their own home. The results are usually available within a few days.

Prevalence of HIV in South River

While specific data for South River is not readily available, Middlesex County, where South River is located, has seen a steady number of HIV cases over the years. The county's HIV prevalence rate is lower than the national average, but higher than some nearby counties like Hampshire and Berkshire.

Risk factors related to HIV in South River

Risk factors for HIV in South River are similar to those in other areas and include unprotected sex, having multiple sexual partners, and sharing needles or works to prepare drugs. It's important to note that anyone can contract HIV, regardless of their lifestyle or behaviors.

Other STDs in South River

In addition to HIV, other STDs like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also present in South River. The rates of these STDs are generally lower than the national average, but they still pose a significant health risk. Regular testing for all STDs is recommended for sexually active individuals.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in South River?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some South River clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in South River?

Many South River health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
