I took my son today to the clinic to be seen. I’ve been here before and have had good experiences but today I was really appalled.  My son has a history of seasonal allergies and asthma and the medical assistant who took his vital signs inputted 97 for his oxygen rate when I saw with my own eyes that the pulse ox number was 94 for his oxygen. I informed the PA whom saw my son of what I saw and he got the MA to repeat it and the repeat value was 95%.  The lady at the front desk was kind and the PA was great but I’m really unhappy with the MA. Working in healthcare she should know that vital signs are extremely important. My son wasn’t actively wheezing or coughing when he was getting triaged so maybe that’s why she thought the need to falsify his oxygen reading.  I’ve enjoyed going to this clinic in the past but moving forward I think I will just go elsewhere.

I was pleased that I could get an appointment the same day. Staff were friendly and compassionate Given medication to help with my pain at my visit. I would have like to have more explanation of my medication and my diagnosis. I had a hard time finding the place. Had to ask couple of people where it was located. Booked online . I haven’t seen my bill yet, so don’t know the cost. Checkin was very easy. Only 1 sheet of paper, to fill out. Did not ask about present medication, allergies or history, which I was surprised about. Thanks

The nurse was friendly but not at all gentle in swabbing my nose for the pcr test. I let her know how much she was hurting me and I know it could have been done to the same effect a lot more gently. She also told me it would take 2-3 days to get pcr results. I was led to believe otherwise from your web site and the doctor who was very friendly came in after and said we should have it probably 24 hours.

Getting Tested for STDs in Columbia, MD

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), regardless of whether they are experiencing symptoms or not. This is particularly important for those who have multiple sexual partners, or are in a relationship with someone who does. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), certain groups are at a higher risk and should get tested regularly. These include sexually active women under 25, men who have sex with men, and individuals with HIV.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a crucial part of maintaining your overall health. Many STDs do not show symptoms but can lead to serious health complications if left untreated. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, preventing the spread of these diseases to others. Moreover, knowing your STD status can help you make informed decisions about your sexual health and protect your partners.

Std testing options in Columbia, MD:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are convenient options for STD testing in Columbia, MD. These facilities often offer same-day appointments, reducing the waiting time for results. AllCare Primary & Immediate Care on Snowden River Pkwy is one such facility that offers STD testing services. You can book an appointment through Solv’s website or mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider is another reliable option for STD testing. They can provide a comprehensive sexual health assessment and guide you through the testing process. If you don't have a primary care provider, Solv can help you find one in Columbia, MD.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or limited financial resources, free STD testing is available at community health centers across Columbia. These centers provide confidential testing and treatment services, often on a sliding fee scale based on income.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits provide a private and convenient option for STD testing. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and sent back to a lab for analysis. Results are usually available online within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Columbia

The prevalence of STDs in Columbia, MD, mirrors the national trend of increasing rates. According to the CDC, Howard County, where Columbia is located, has seen a steady increase in STD cases over the past few years. This trend is consistent with nearby counties such as Fayette County and Sussex County. Factors contributing to this increase could include a lack of sexual education, decreased condom use, and increased testing.

Risk factors related to STDs in Columbia

Several risk factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Columbia. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and substance abuse. Socioeconomic factors such as lack of access to healthcare, poverty, and stigma around STD testing can also play a role. It's important for residents to be aware of these risks and take proactive steps to protect their sexual health. Regular testing, using protection during sex, and open communication with partners can significantly reduce the risk of contracting an STD.
