Blood Test FAQs

  • Where can I get a blood test in Buffalo?

In general, blood tests are available at Buffalo-area medical labs, urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care doctor offices, and many local pharmacies. While walk-in appointments are typically available, booking a visit online will reduce your wait time and ensure you have your blood work results sooner.

  • How can I book a blood test in Buffalo?

Regardless of the kind of blood test you are seeking, Solv can help you book an appointment. Simply search for Buffalo-area labs and healthcare providers, filter by the test you want and find a top-rated blood testing location. Be sure to include “blood testing” as the reason for visit.

  • Where can I get blood work after hours in Buffalo?

Outside routine work hours, most Buffalo labs and primary care offices are closed, however, most of the area’s urgent care and retail clinics are open later than typical business hours and on weekends. Book an after-hours visit to get prompt, no-hassle care and get your blood test results faster.

  • Can I make a same-day appointment for blood work in Buffalo?

Same-day and next-day appointments for many blood tests can easily be booked directly through Solv. Simply search for Buffalo-area providers, find a lab or draw station, and book the most convenient time for you. Be sure to include “blood work” as your reason for visit.

  • How do I find the best labs for blood testing in Buffalo?

Solv gathers ratings, reviews, and other data on Buffalo-area labs and healthcare providers to ensure the providers meet our high standards. Search for blood work providers, see what previous patients think, and book an appointment with a top-rated lab or clinic today!

  • Who should get a blood test?

Blood tests provide a valuable look at your overall health and blood work should be done at least once a year. They offer a great way to catch illness or disease early on, or see how you are progressing with on-going treatment. Your doctor or healthcare provider typically orders blood tests for you during an annual physical or as necessary for a specific diagnosis. It’s possible to order your own blood tests without a doctor, particularly for things like STD tests or hemoglobin A1c tests.

  • Are video visits available for blood work in Buffalo?

While a blood test cannot be performed over video, your doctor can both initially prescribe blood tests using telemedicine, and review results with you virtually.

  • How much does a blood test cost in Buffalo?

Without insurance, blood work typically costs between $50 to $1,000, or sometimes more depending on the specific tests and the provider type you are having the tests performed at. At-home tests are available in most areas and could cost substantially less. Book a consultation with a lab testing provider in Buffalo today to get more details on the specific blood work you are looking for.

  • How long do blood tests take?

Blood tests can be performed either in-office or performed on samples that are sent to an outside lab. The collection itself should only take a few minutes, and the results could be ready within a few hours or up to one to two weeks depending on the test you are getting done. Once you’ve received your results, your doctor can discuss them with you either in-person, on the phone, or through a video visit.

  • Is blood work covered by my insurance?

Most common blood tests are covered under insurance plans, particularly when your doctor orders them as part of an annual physical or supporting a diagnosis. If you are self prescribing the test, however, it may not be covered by insurance. If you have questions about your specific insurance coverage, it is best to contact your carrier or your provider.

Xavier was the best phlebotomist ever. I am considered to be a hard stick and she looked at both arms and got blood from only 1 try. Her knowledge, confidence and compassion made my experience a total success.

Jessica did a great job! I am hard to draw blood and she got it. She was patient and knew what to do. I didn’t not have same experience a couple weeks ago at a different lab. Jessica is the best!

Jill was amazing. Compunet was at new location, GPS messed up and took me into a neighborhood. While I frantically called worried about appointment time, Jill stayed on phone and navigated me to location. Check in process was faster and she is even great with blood work. She was exceptional and overall employee like Jill is an asset to have.

A little busy; wait longer than expected. Didn't get much feedback on my vitals except that blood pressure is good. Does that mean everything else is bad?

- Verified patient on 8/10

The wait was short, check-in was easy, and my labs were done quickly. The girl who drew my blood was very polite and efficient. She made me feel at ease.

The 2 women who took care of me were fantastic. Did feel the needle go in for bloodwork. And I am terrified of needles. This is the only place my husband and I come for bloodwork because how gentle and friendly everyone is here.

I wasn’t feeling so well, so I went to the urgent care and was blown away by the cleanliness, friendly staff, and fast and sufficient services. The wait time was super fast. They took urine and blood and I was out in no time! The best medical service I’ve ever received.

Friendly and efficient staff. I usually have difficulty getting blood drawn as it is difficult to find a good vein. The phlebotomist found a vein on the first try and I didn't feel a thing.

The ladies in the lab did an amazing job when I came to get blood work done. It was my first time getting blood drawn and they made me feel extremely comfortable the entire time!

We were the only 2 in the waiting room. My 87 year old father and I both had to get blood drawn. My dad's name was called first. Dad walks with a walking stick. I walked dad to the room to make sure he was ok, help him take off his coat and seat him in the chair. The employee kept telling me to stay in the waiting room. I would be called soon. I told her we're together. She said the other person is getting my room ready now. I told her "ok". I continued to walk dad to the room. The employee kept telling me I would be called soon. I told her we're together. The other employee came into dad's room and asked if I was ready. I told her just as soon as I get dad situated. This was the first time someone tried to separate me from my dad. It was apparent that he needed assistance.

I visited the facility for blood work. The experience was painless all around. The staff (both of them) were very friendly as well as professional. There were three people ahead of me and my wait was less than 10 minutes. This was my first visit to this facility and I will definitely come here every time I need blood work in the future. Thank for a great experience!

My blood draw was great. Even when I was about to pass out the phlebotomist didn't freak out and remained calm. She knew what to do and how to help. She was awesome!!!!

About Blood Tests

Blood tests are used as valuable snapshots of your current overall health and can be an effective way of catching illness or disease early, or measuring how you are reacting to new or on-going treatment. There are a variety of types of blood work with most common tests being complete blood counts (CBC), complete and basic metabolic panels (CMP, BMP), thyroid panels, nutrient tests, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) tests.

Each of these blood tests are fairly common and can be performed in a variety of settings including testing labs, primary care offices, urgent care centers, and even retail clinics and some pharmacies. Solv even has clinic partners in the Buffalo-area that offer online scheduling, allowing you to book a visit convenient to your schedule and skip the wait. The tests themselves take only a few minutes and usually are performed by a nurse or technician where they:

  1. Clean the area where they will draw blood from, usually your upper arm
  2. Tie a band to your upper arm to make your veins more visible
  3. Put a needle gently into a vein to draw blood into the attached tube
  4. Remove the needle, then the band from the vein when complete
  5. Cover the draw site with a bandage

Risks associated with blood work are very low, but could possibly include slight pain or discomfort at the draw site, dizziness or even fainting from blood loss, or vein puncture. It’s important to discuss any concerns you may have with your medical provider before the procedure begins.
