I saw Dr. Mark Smith on 8/28/19 and I told him I had thrush from being on antibiotics. This has happened in the past. I showed him the photos and he saw my mouth. He told me that there is no way to test for Candida and that my Primary MD that I usually see there prescribes diflucan too much. Very unprofessional to bad mouth another doctor. I sent my photos of my mouth to my Infectious Disease Internist at Mass General and my Oral Surgeon who all confirmed thrush. Thankfully, my primary was able to call in the medication several days later but, this is total negligence. This is clearly thrush and Dr. Smith was unable to diagnose it or prescribe anything for me. Not only that I told him I was taking augmentin for a sinus infection but I’m also on Biaxin and Plaquenil from my Infectious Disease doctor in MA for Lyme. He verbatim said “ Lyme. That’s an interesting thing. I have patients that come in tired and think they have Lyme because they lived in PA. Unless you see spirochetes under a slide, you don’t have Lyme.” This is absolutely false information and the ELISA test is 70% false negatives you need a western blot preformed by Quest Labs and read by a Lyme specialist. Lyme specialists also know how to diagnose patients clinically because the testing is not always accurate. I am a lucky Lyme patient and had positive Elisa and Western Blot testing. I kept my mouth shut because I was not there to discuss Lyme Disease I was there for the thrush from the antibiotics. On top of that, Dr. Smith reeked of cigarette smoke. I’m allergic to nicotine. Please send this doctor to some conferences and courses so he can update his skills.
