I have been using this location since 2009 for all of my general healthcare needs and obviously liked it or I wouldn't have kept coming there. Right before the holidays in December of 2018 I went in for a general checkup and blood work as I had been feeling an increasingly worse all over malaise for the several weeks prior to going in. After sitting in the waiting area for over an hour the receptionist informed me that my insurance would not cover that sort of a visit. When I said I understood but I would be glad to self pay as I had been seeing Dr. Thompson for years and he knew my history she again replied that due to the type of insurance I have (Individual BCBS of GA) I could not be seen even if I paid for the visit out of pocket. I explained to her that that made no sense to which she replied that the government would shut the office down if I were seen. Seeing that there was no reasoning with the woman I told her I didn't appreciate being made to sit there for over an hour and then being told I could not be seen and left. I had clearly written the reason for my visit on the clipboard when I arrived and I understand that insurance has its limitations but making me wait that long and then being told I could not even pay for the visit out of pocket makes no sense. I have been using another Emory Dr's office in my area for years because they have a reputation as the best and they have never had a problem with self pay. Is no more self pay a new policy with Emory? If so I need to know and make alternative arrangements. Thank you for good care in the past and I hope continued care in the future. I look forward to your response at [email protected]
