II decided to give AFC Denville a second chance after having a poor experience when it first opened. Unfortunately, this visit was even worse. I came in for an earache and a sore throat. The doctor was in the room for no more than three to five minutes. From the moment she walked in, I got the impression that my presence was a burden and that she wanted to get me out of the room as quickly as possible. She briefly looked at my ear and throat, told me I was “fine,” and said I should see a dentist. What was most concerning was the complete lack of any meaningful information gathering. No questions were asked to understand my symptoms or what may have caused them. I was not asked whether I had recently hit my head, been exposed to loud noises, how long my symptoms had been occurring, whether they were getting worse, or any other questions that would seem relevant to an ear complaint. Despite me mentioning a headache and post-nasal drip, she never examined my nasal cavity or appeared interested in investigating possible causes of my symptoms. She told me she would perform a strep swab, although she stated she was confident it would be negative. She then discharged me. A staff member later came in with my discharge paperwork, and I asked about the strep swab. The staff member left to check, and I distinctly heard the doctor say, “Oh yes, I forgot.” The staff member then returned and confirmed exactly that—that the doctor had forgotten to perform the test she had told me she was going to do. At that point, I had absolutely no confidence in the evaluation I had just received. If a physician can forget a test that she herself ordered only minutes earlier, it naturally raises concerns about the thoroughness and reliability of the entire encounter. I left without a diagnosis, without an explanation for my symptoms, and without confidence that any meaningful effort had been made to determine what was wrong. The entire experience was so rushed and superficial that it left me questioning the standards being applied. I work in a school, and I can honestly say I have received more thorough questioning, assessment, and concern from an elementary school nurse than I received during this visit from a physician. That is not a criticism of school nurses—it is a reflection of how little evaluation took place during my appointment. Patients come to urgent care expecting a medical assessment, not a two-minute glance followed by dismissal. Unfortunately, that is exactly how this visit felt.

This was the worst urgent care experience I have ever had. I have visited this facility many times and usually received decent service. However, today’s visit was especially disappointing. I waited over an hour in the waiting area, even though there were no other patients in the waiting room waiting. Perhaps there was one person being seen.  When I was finally called in, the assistant took my vitals, then the doctor entered the room. She didn’t introduce herself and kept asking if I had been wheezing. I responded negatively, and she briefly listened to my lungs and heart—about ten seconds. She then said she would prescribe a steroid, claiming it would treat the condition if it was allergies. I questioned this, clarifying that my symptoms didn’t suggest allergies, and explained I’d been experiencing a chest cough and chest pain for several days. During this, she visibly yawned, looking tired rather than disinterested. I voiced my concerns about the steroid, noting there was no reason to prescribe it. I asked if she detected signs of pneumonia or bronchitis, and she responded no, but still planned to prescribe a steroid for allergies. She said if my symptoms worsened, possibly indicating bronchitis, it would treat that too—despite my clear statements to the contrary. I also pointed out she hadn’t examined my ears, nose, or throat. She rolled her eyes and said, “oh, it’s one of those days,” before grabbing a tongue depressor. When I asked her to wear gloves, as she had requested me to open my mouth, she threw the depressor away, declared she was done, and left. I was so shocked by this lack of care that I told the waiting people they were about to be seen by a terrible doctor. This outburst was completely unlike me. I was just so outraged. I am at a loss for words about this whole experience. I am very disappointed because this location is quite convenient for me.

Woke up this morning with a horrible stye in my eye. I was able to make an appointment through the app and get seen within a couple of minutes of arriving at the office. The office was clean and the staff was so friendly. I was seen by the doctor and was ready to go pick up my prescription. Best urgent care I’ve been to!

I had a very bad sore throat so I came in to get tested for strep, flu, or covid. Staff was very friendly and check in was easy. I only waited about ten minutes, and medical staff was great.
