If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. Dignity Health AZ General Hospital Emergency Room - Goodyear is an emergency room, commonly called an E.R., providing critical and life saving healthcare services to patients throughout theGoodyear area through their location at251 N Estrella Pkwy. They are required by law to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even on national holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
While their availability can be enticing, you should really only visit an E.R. if you absolutely have to as they can be quite expensive and have much longer wait times than an walk-in urgent care center. In fact, some insurance carriers have begun to refuse paying for emergency room visits that were in fact non-emergent. An interesting fact that about 50% of emergency room diagnosis could be addressed at a quicker, less expensive urgent care center.

I will be filing a Formal Complaint with every outlet available to me as well as sharing this with EVERY online site I can. My son went to the facility located in Goodyear, AZ yesterday (9-16-2019) because he was sent home by the school nurse. He was diagnosed for strep throat. The attending Doctor said that he was NOT CONTAGIOUS; that he could just be a carrier for strep and that he could go to school. My husband ASKED for a note for my son's school stating this and the Doctor REFUSED stating, "Just don't tell them.". Today (9-17-2019), my son went to the nurses office with a sore throat and told her it was because he tested positive for strep throat yesterday. She calls me asking why he was in school and I told her that the attending Doctor said he wasn't contagious and could be in school. She stated that they need paperwork stating that and I told her that the Doctor refused to give a note and said he could be in school. I told her I'd contact this facility to get a note backing up what the doctor said. The Nurse I first spoke with tried her best to help me but was unsuccessful because she couldn't produce a note that allowed for my son to BE IN School today. She could only provide a note that allows my son to BE OUT OF School today. So she put me in contact with her supervisor/manager Nurse. This woman was not helpful in the least. From the get go it was apparent that she was not going to be helpful and while she said that I waited 24 hours to contact them about this, the same 24 hours wasn't good enough to produce a note stating that my son was allowed to be in school today. She blamed my husband for not insisting that the Doctor provide a note and brushing off the Doctor's status of power and authority as a trained professional as a legitimate reason for why my husband didn't question the doctor. In the same breath however, she accused my son and husband of lying because it's not in their procedure to deny notes and was going to be my husband's word against the doctors. Clearly using the status and authority of a trained professional that she just brushed off a few moments prior. I told her this was too much hassle to go through if it wasn't what happened seeing as they would write me a note for him to be out of school no problem. I asked her about the legality of this situation and what their actions were implying. They are refusing to back their Doctor by giving me a note for my son. The Doctor went against their policies and procedures by telling us it was okay for our son to go to school today. Their Doctor placed a school full of Children's health at risk. Her response was that I should feel free to contact their legal team. This Nurse is a "patient advocate" by the way. Please do yourself, your family, friends, and community a favor by going to a different Hospital.
