My child had been running a high fever for 24 hours & obviously very uncomfortable so we decided to bring him in since his PCP was closed for the weekend. When the NP came in, she looked in one ear briefly said he had an infection and said she couldn’t see in the other due to ear wax. My child had a very hard time swallowing anything due to throat discomfort, he wouldn’t even swallow his spit. She didn’t even look in his throat despite our serious concerns for throat issues. She said they don’t worry about anything with the throat under 2. He didn’t eat or drink anything for almost 2 days. We got prescribed abx and left. When his PCP opened not even 48 hours later, his doctor said his ears were textbook beautiful and hardly any earwax. He looked in his throat and it was covered with blisters that he said looked like they had been there for 3 or so days. If she would have even attempted to look there she should have seen them. He never should have had abx, just fluids and pain control since this was viral. I work with many PNPs as a nurse myself and asked each of them what a child assessment with his symptoms would have been and they all said they would have looked in his throat. This was just negligence.

Typical sports physical but the Dr was awesome. Very personable and wasn’t rushed. I mean we could tell it was the end of their evening but when my daughter was indecisive or kind of straying away about things, she was patient which I appreciated
