Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

Institution states they will not take an insurance payment for any type of "physical exam" even if your insurance will pay for it they force you to pay out of pocket. Let you schedule the appointment just to inform you once you've arrived for your appointment and not before hand. This procedure needs to be evaluated and changed. Waited 2 hours even with a time reserved. Then was diagnosed with Strep after a not-very definitive test. Was given antibiotics and went home. It is now 4 days later and my symptoms (cough, wheezing, swollen glands, sore throat, fatigue) have all gotten worse. I will not go back to WestMed to wait another 2 hours. I will just stay home and keep missing work (as I have done for 3 days) since whatever this is doesn’t seem to be getting worse…just not going away.2
