Sparkling Clean

My eye was almost swollen shut from poison ivy, so I went in. She told me right off there would probably be around a 45 minute wait because of two other cases there, which I appreciated being told up front! Mine wasn’t an emergency so it was fine. When it was my turn to go in, it was only a few minutes before the doctor came in...They were so nice (and I wish I was better with remembering names) and the doctor made sure everything else was ok and wasn’t rushing me through. I would recommend this place....I appreciated their kindness and efficiency!

About Syphilis Testing

Who should get tested for syphilis?

According to the CDC, anyone who is sexually active can get syphilis, but it is particularly prevalent among men who have sex with men. However, it's not limited to this group. Those who have unprotected sex, multiple partners, or a partner with syphilis are also at risk. Pregnant women should also get tested because syphilis can cause complications during pregnancy and can be passed to the baby. If you live in an area where syphilis is prevalent, such as Mount Vernon, OH, you should consider getting tested even if you don't fall into these risk groups.

Importance of getting tested

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause serious health problems if left untreated, but it's also easily curable in its early stages. Testing is the only sure way to know if you have syphilis because many of its symptoms are similar to other diseases. If you test positive, you can start treatment immediately and avoid long-term health effects. Additionally, knowing your status can help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Syphilis testing options in Mount Vernon, OH:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics, such as Newark Valley Urgent Care and Westar Urgent Care, offer syphilis testing. These facilities often have shorter wait times and extended hours compared to traditional doctor's offices. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at these locations through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also test for syphilis. If you're already seeing a doctor for regular check-ups, you can ask for a syphilis test during your next visit.

Free STD testing and community health centers

There are also free STD testing centers and community health centers in and around Mount Vernon that offer syphilis testing. These centers provide services regardless of your ability to pay.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option. These kits allow you to collect a sample at home and send it to a lab for testing. This option offers convenience and privacy, but it's important to choose a reputable company to ensure accurate results.

Prevalence of syphilis in Mount Vernon

According to the CDC, the prevalence of syphilis in Knox County, where Mount Vernon is located, is lower than the national average but slightly higher than some nearby counties like Fayette County and Indiana County. However, the rates have been gradually increasing over the past few years, which is consistent with national trends.

Risk factors related to syphilis in Mount Vernon

Other STDs in Mount Vernon

Syphilis is not the only STD to be concerned about in Mount Vernon. Other common STDs in the area include gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and hepatitis. The prevalence of these diseases is also higher than in some nearby counties. Therefore, comprehensive STD testing is recommended for sexually active individuals in Mount Vernon.
