Urgent care
Severe sore throat and many other symptoms. Could have just stopped with the tests the nurse did. Didn’t learn anything from the PA Kimberly other than how to say ahhhh (tongue depressor) correctly. And that you can not fix a virus which I already knew. Pretty much a waste of money for me.

Urgent care
Was there a little wait time, yes, but that’s to be expected with any urgent care especially with heightened flu season. However they still apologized for the longer wait. You also have the option to reserve a spot online which is a great option. The kids receptionist was even being so kind to let people leave and call when they were close to being called. ALL of the staff were extremely nice and caring! I was very impressed and had a great experience.

Urgent Care in Lincoln, NE

Lincoln is Nebraska's capital city and, by per-capita measure, one of the most active refugee resettlement communities in the United States—Nebraska has led the nation in refugees resettled per capita in multiple recent years, with Lincoln serving as the state's primary hub.1 Bryan Health, which operates Nebraska's first and longest-running trauma program (Level II ACS-verified), anchors a compact healthcare ecosystem alongside the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department's dedicated Refugee Health Clinic. For everyday illness and minor injury, urgent care is the right first stop before the ER.

When should you go to urgent care vs. the ER in Lincoln?

Bryan Medical Center, with campuses on both the East and West sides of Lincoln, operates the area's primary emergency departments and Nebraska's designated Level II trauma program—the first trauma center in the state, now operating for more than 30 years.2 For non-life-threatening conditions—respiratory infections, ear aches, urinary tract infections, minor injuries, rashes, and flu-like symptoms—urgent care clinics are faster and lower-cost than the ER. Reserve the emergency room for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe difficulty breathing, major trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, and any condition that feels immediately life-threatening.

What do urgent care clinics in Lincoln treat?

Lincoln's urgent care clinics handle the full range of everyday conditions. Bryan Urgent Care operates three Lincoln locations plus satellite sites in Seward, Waverly, and Ashland, with on-site lab and X-ray services at all Lincoln locations; the network accepts traditional Medicaid, Nebraska Heritage Health, and most major insurance plans.3 Urgent Care of Lincoln (Nuvara), AFC Urgent Care, and MedExpress provide additional options across the city. Common visit types include respiratory infections and strep throat, ear and sinus infections, UTIs and minor infections, minor fractures and sprains, skin conditions, and occupational health including DOT physicals. For residents near the Nebraska–Iowa border or in surrounding communities, Omaha and Bellevue also have Solv-listed clinics.

How does Nebraska Medicaid work in Lincoln?

Nebraska expanded Medicaid in October 2020 after a voter-approved ballot initiative, making adults aged 19 to 64 with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level newly eligible for coverage. According to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 23,000 Lancaster County residents were newly eligible under expansion.4 Nebraska Medicaid is delivered through managed care organizations including Heritage Health (with three plan options), NE Total Care, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Bryan Urgent Care, AFC Urgent Care, and most Lincoln walk-in clinics accept Nebraska Medicaid managed care plans. Lincoln's uninsured rate was approximately 5.9% as of the 2024 American Community Survey—one of the lower rates among mid-size U.S. cities—in part reflecting the state university workforce, state government employment, and Medicaid expansion coverage gains.

What makes Lincoln's healthcare access unique?

Lincoln's substantial and growing refugee and immigrant population creates specific healthcare access dynamics not common in comparably-sized cities. The Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department operates a dedicated Refugee Health Clinic that provides initial health screenings, vaccinations, and care navigation for newly arrived refugees—serving approximately 980 individuals in fiscal year 2024 from countries including Myanmar, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and Somalia, among others.5 Lutheran Family Services and Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska provide additional resettlement support including connections to primary care and behavioral health services. For this population, urgent care clinics with multilingual staff or interpreter services are especially valuable for acute care needs. According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, Lincoln's population surpassed 300,000 in 2025, with more than 10% of residents born outside the United States.

What seasonal health conditions are common in Lincoln?

Lincoln's continental climate produces distinct seasonal health patterns. Respiratory infections including influenza and RSV are most prevalent from November through February; the University of Nebraska flagship campus enrollment of approximately 25,000 students accelerates virus spread each fall. Thunderstorm season runs from April through August and brings storm-chasing injuries, hail-related cuts, and tornado shelter-related incidents. Summer humidity and heat create heat exhaustion risk for outdoor and agricultural workers in the region. Severe cold snaps from December through February drive frostbite and cold exposure presentations at urgent care clinics, particularly affecting residents experiencing housing instability. Spring tree and grass pollen—elm, oak, and bluegrass—drives significant allergy volume from late February through May.
