Often seen as the heart of middle America, Iowa largely seems like a wholesome, healthy state. In many ways that's true, but in other more fundamental ways, the state suffers from a number of healthcare problems that send residents seeking alternative health facilities.

Healthcare in Iowa

With a large farming community, Iowa has many attendant health problems. There are accidents involving the farm equipment and the harvest, not to mention potential injuries caused by large animals such as cows, horses, and pigs. Worse, the drinking water in the state has a problem with nitrate that is steadily leading to an increase in serious health problems. After a long drought, an abundance of rain led to fertilizer washing down to the rivers, which a large part of the residents use for drinking water.

Urgent Care in Iowa

Poverty is another growing problem in Iowa; it's the subject of editorials and documentaries. Children are especially suffering from growing poverty rates, but entire families lack access to healthcare. In spite of health systems such as UnityPoint, Trinity, and Genesis, a growing number of residents can't afford to go to the ER or the doctor's office. This leads to a need for more affordable urgent care facilities that are also easier to reach.

Walk-In Clinics in Iowa

For those who need sliding-scale healthcare and discounted rates, Iowa's walk-in clinics are also necessary. Located in big towns and near small hamlets alike, they're more cost-efficient for farmers with related injuries and kids suffering from childhood maladies such as chicken pox and fevers.

Specific urgent care and walk-in clinic services available in may include STD testing flu shots, school physicals and many other valuable services

From the time my husband and I walked through the door, I felt well cared for. I had fallen and hit my head. The young woman at the check-in desk had a welcoming smile, only asked a few questions and suggested I sit down. If she needed any more info she would come to me. The young woman who cleaned up my cuts and abrasions had a gentle touch. I'm sorry I don't have their names. Ashlee Reetz stitched and bandaged my various wounds. She answered my questions, checked me for a possible concussion, with professionalism and pleasant attitude. My husband and I were so pleased with the care in your facility. I was there around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd.
