What patients are saying...

One of the worst experiences, if not the worst, I have ever had with a medical professional. Gerri Catton, FNP at Mercy Urgent Care in Burnsville has an unchecked ego that is affecting her ability to be unbiased and provide quality care. She was unsure of my diagnosis, did not have the lab equipment to test, and instead of supporting me to find further answers, she refused to refer me to a specialist unless I first tried the medication she prescribed.  I am not someone who likes to take medication unless it is needed, and given that we were both unsure that this was the correct diagnosis, I wanted more answers before going that route. I asked several times in several different ways for her to respect my choices relating to my own body and health and to support me in finding additional help. She continued to refuse.  She said and I paraphrase, “Just as antibiotics are prescribed to those who have an infection even when the source may be unclear, this medication too is a blanket potential cure for an unclear diagnosis…” There is much wrong with this sentence but I feel compelled to mention that the premature and excessive prescription of antibiotics is precisely why we have kids growing up without immune systems and disintegrating gut health. The fact that we still have people in the medical profession spouting the propaganda that antibiotics are a cure all without side effects, (and still prescribing without pause) when we now have oodles of public studies and data that directly disprove this…is at the very least extremely problematic. And as we can see, the negligence doesn’t stop at antibiotics. This mindset translates to medication across the board. Why search for a cure when you can bully someone into taking a medication that they may not want or need? Why search for a cure, when you get a paycheck regardless from the pharmaceutical companies at the end of the day?  Down the line, I called back asking for a prescription of another medication proven to support with my potential condition. No response. I called again, asking for a referral to a specialist who was willing to see me and simply needed the referral from Catton. No response even when I left messages directly with the receptionist.  This was one of the most unprofessional and purely ego-driven experiences I have had with someone in the medical field. I sincerely hope things change at this office and beyond. Medical professionals exist to support humans in making the best decisions for their own health and body. When more answers are needed or a second opinion is desired in any case, for any reason, this should be honored, respected and every effort made for the diagnosis to be correct no matter how many people or how much time it takes to arrive at it. I should also mention that Catton’s diagnosis turned out to be incorrect.  I encourage everyone reading this to trust yourself before the doctors. Trust your needs before the snapshot decisions you may be handed. This is your life and your body, and you are the only one who knows what is best for you and the only one who gets to decide what is best for you. Period. Don’t be afraid to say no. Don’t be afraid to walk away. Good people in this field do exist, ones who are not yet neck deep in the system. We just have to be patient enough and wade through some muck with our standards held high before we find them. Medical providers — do better.

My son acutely starting screaming and crying while going to the bathroom. I took him in immediately and he was diagnosed with a probable kidney stone. There was zero wait time. All of the staff from check in to nurse to provider were extremely patient with my almost hysterical 11-year-old. He got extremely nauseous and threw up all over the bathroom. They comforted him, giving him Gatorade and a plan to follow up at the ER. I was extremely thankful for these ladies treating us with kindness during a scary time.

Both Maggie and Anna once again were great, professional, thorough, and gentle.  I have followed up with a finger wound care specialist and all seems well. Thank you for the great care and the front desk receptionist as well.  So glad to have that option available in our little town! I would definitely recommend the facility!

Jerri, FNP was very thorough and her exam was accurate. Because of my medical history, she referred me on to an ER for further work up.  I would definitely use this urgent care again when needed.
