Recent COVID-19 Vaccine Reviews (20)

Amazingly great experience. I had heard lots of horror stories about other vaccination providers about delays, cancellations, poor service, etc. None of that happened at the Swedish vaccination site. Just the opposite! I’m not a regular patient of theirs, so I didn’t know what to expect. It was difficult getting an appointment for my first dose of the Covid vaccine with any facility. I’m classified as 1B-Tier 1. Like everyone else, I had been trying to get an appointment for weeks. But once I got the appointment with Swedish it all went very quickly and efficiently. Here’s my experience: Swedish got a new vaccine shipment on Tuesday 2/2/21. I heard about it late that afternoon and was able to get on-line and schedule my first dose for Thursday evening at the Swedish vaccination site on the Seattle University campus. By the time I got my vaccination scheduled Tuesday night, all other time slots had been taken, so you have to act quickly. On Thursday I arrived about an hour early before my scheduled appointment. Volunteers were posted from the garage to the vaccination site to make sure no one got lost. Everyone was well distanced and masked. At the check-in desk I had to produce my proof of eligibility and photo ID. Though I was 30 minutes early they put me in line immediately (again masked and distanced) - there was no wait. Within 20 minutes after I parked in the garage I was already vaccinated with dose 1, and was scheduled for for my second dose. Everyone - the volunteers, doctors, nurses, and schedulers - were friendly, efficient, and focused on giving terrific service to those being vaccinated. It was a truly wonderful experience.

Fast, credible (due to UW affiliation) & friendly. Ideally I'll receive my tests results the same today too, because they are so consequential. My son just tested positive & was with our family for Thanksgiving week so we're all on pins & needles now waiting for test results from each family member. We're all fully vaxxed, most have boosters and we all feel fine, so I think we'll be okay. Still, the only change I would request is receiving same day results but I know that's probably not realistic & I'm definitely not complaining. We're verrrry lucky to live in the same city as UW main campus & medical center for a multitude of reasons. (heart emoji!) Oh yes, thanks for being on super groovy Ballard Avenue too! It's much more fun than the emissions testing place on Aurora, but we're grateful for all testing places in Seattle! With Love, Pam PPS. I don't know what it cost. I thought these tests are supposed to be free? I did give my insurance card but haven't seen my medical statement yet. If I am charged, I hope it's very low cost.

In Seattle Cancer Care Alliance oncology & hemotology, my care team always gets five out of five stars, especially Dr Moore, Raylene, and Angie. I really want to draw attention to the cheerful and efficient scheduling and intake staff I get regularly: Sam, Francesca, and Roke. Francesca is always a breath of fresh air! So cheerful and engaged! I just adore her for brightening up what could be a gloomy occasion. I appreciate that so much! I also got a covid vaccine here today. Everyone involved was cheerful and efficient. All went well. What makes me want to draw attention to these staff is because I see that it makes a diffence to all the patients passing Thank you Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for providing top notch staff with the best attitudes.

As with the first vaccine dose today’s experience was just as awesome. Totally impressed with; • Upbeat happiness of volunteers • Organized like a “well oiled machine”!! • Extreme personableness of each individual I came in 6’ contact with-complete joy to be with these fine people! • There was an abundance of people to lead me every step of the way. Each of these people acted like caring family members. Kudos to all of you involved with the organization of the Covid vaccine events accommodating numerous volumes of people who may have had anxiety contemplating receiving their vaccine; thankfully, I held positive feelings throughout; but because of the wonderful caring personnel volunteering, hope everyone departed feeling great! What a memorable day I have had! My appreciation is all yours!

I was so impressed with your staff and facility. Every one of your staff was very professional and kind. Your system is ready to serve the public from the outside the building with the signs & directions to the entrance. After you get in ti the building the each one of the public members was treated just like your own patient. Especially, after the COVID vaccine each public patient was guided to a very clean room with comfortable chair/recliner(?) and your staff goes to each patient explaining how to take care of yourself in case you feel discomfort. What a comparison to the public news on the TV. I talk to my friends about the experience at Futch. Thank you so much for your outstanding service! Seungja Song

There was a mix up with my Covid vaccine. I signed up for moderna 4/7 12:42. I parked on the moderna side of arena. I went to check in for first dose. I was early. Shortly after as I was in line for shot got a text my appointment was cancelled. Went back and double checked they said I had two appointments. No sure but continued on. Ended up with Pfizer. When I went to check out they said another name came up. I couldn’t understand what they were saying due to accent and mask. Thought I was Jennifer Wilson. They had to make a new entry in system in order schedule my 2nd dose. Have no idea what information made it look like I was another person.

I got a first Covid vaccine dose appointment online I had a question about when a second dose appointment would be made, so I made a phone call and had a pleasant experience with the person who answered the phone. then when I went and got my first shot there was virtually no waiting, I just pulled in to the short line, I followed the signs, pulled into the area, had a few people taking care of the tasks of identification and getting the vaccine ready. I got my shot and followed the signs around to the 15 minute waiting area. It is all very efficient and effective. I would recommend it to anyone.

No one wants to have to get a COVID test, but coming to your facility has been fantastic. Your people are great, they’re knowledgeable, you have a GREAT set-up for managing testing. And equally important your results are reliable and timely. There people are great. Combined, this all makes it so easy and seamless. I can’t tell you how much we, as a family, have appreciated coming to this facility when we have to get tested. And I recommend it to others! Your team could contribute a lot toward improving COVID vaccination and booster shots! That system is broken and I wish it worked as smoothly as yours.

Drive-up covid vaccination booster shot with appointment went super smooth. Very easy to make, punctual, easy to follow instructions, all forms and such done via text beforehand. Check-in was simple, received prompts via text the day of and just prior to appointment which made everything pretty much foolproof and simple. Fast, clear, friendly, easy, and professional. I would truly rate the experience as a solid five stars across the board, never had to leave car and am just finishing up a precautionary 15 minute observation period in the upper parking lot while my co-pilot and I decide what we want to do for lunch. Thanks Sno valley.

I am thankful for the opportunity to receive my 2nd Covid vaccine. The health care workers there were hospitable and kind. I felt confident that I would be well taken care of, and I did. I was impressed with the professionalism, cleanliness, and great care that I received for my second vaccination. I appreciate the great works at each and every one of those wonderful health care workers good. I recommend that everyone who gave up there Saturday with their families, so myself and others could receive the vaccine, should be acknowledged for their services.

Wow! So efficient, so smooth, so uneventful and yet delightful. Everyone working at the event was friendly and courteous and knowledgeable. Knowing that many employees were answering the same questions, asking the same questions, and providing the same info all day long, I was really impressed with the fact that each interaction with staff felt personable. Good job hiring quality people, Pierce County! For something as simultaneously dull (getting a shot) yet momentous (first COVID Vaccine!), and for lack of better words, I must say “I had a really nice time!” 10/10 stars.

The offer and scheduling of COVID vaccine for 12-15 yr olds was bumpy on Monday and we, and several hundred others, were able to schedule appts on Tue. before the CDC authorized - a glitch that was corrected later in the day on Tuesday when we got email offering a rescheduling, which led to today’s vaccination. So a little bump, a big but temporary disappointment, followed by an outstanding experience. THANK YOU! The workflow at Hutch this morning when we got the vaccination was the most well-oiled human machine I have ever seen!

When I bought in my grandparents for the covid vaccine, one of the staff members helped us into the waiting room. Check in and check out was easy. Social distancing was well maintained inside the clinic. A translator assisted my grandparents while I waited outside in the car. Although they I wasn't present, my grandparents told me that the staff was really kind and professional. They felt well taken care of. I'm thankful for this clinic and their staff for taking excellent care of my grandparents!

Receiving my COVID vaccine was an easy, painless and quick process! I was prepared to wait in long lines, but I was in and out including post vaccine wait and making a 2nd appt all within 25 minutes! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Everything was well organized! I was impressed and feel fortunate to have had this experience rather than those I see on the news! Thank u to all the volunteers and Seattle public health for doing such a great job!

This was my first visit to SVH. I received my Pfiser booster shot at the SVH drive-thru annex. Made my reservation & completed all paperword online the night before. I arrived at SVH 15 min before my appointment. I was first car in line. Within a couple of minutes, I was motioned forward. I was 'shot' and on my way to recovery 10 minutes later. The whole process was easy and quick, and personal were helpful and personable. A pleasent experience.

I was there today for my second covid vaccine. The line was very long. The first time i came was a 5☆ visit. Today's visit was completely different. Unorganized, very long line. Most of the patients had not filled out their questionnaires on line. The ones who did should have been able to get in. But we had to wait in a long line. Once i got inside it was great, because i had pre- checked in and signed my disclosure.

I just finished getting my first covid vaccine through the drive up. I had a great experience. I don’t do well with needles, and the gentleman giving the vaccine was AMAZING. I literally didn’t feel a thing. Given my needle phobia I was a little flustered, and can’t remember his name, but his initials were V. A. I believe. What a great drive through operation they have set up. The gal scheduling me for my second dose was also very nice.

Truly impressed, actually overwhelmed, by the kind, considerate, patient, efficient, and organized as well as professional staff at every point in the multi-step process of receiving the Pfizer COVID vaccine! The nursing staff that gave me my vaccine (RN Jeglum & team at her vaccination station) and the supervising nurses overseeing the end process where vaccine recipients were being watched for symptoms were particularly personable, approachable, attentive, and knowledgeable as well as professional, i.e., RN Katrina and ARNP Tiffany.

I did the drive-through for a booster shot. I had an appointment at 11, but didn’t actually get seen until 12:10. There wasn’t enough signage or space for the car line, so there were a lot of angry honks from other people driving on the same road. But I was delighted with how smoothly it went when I got to the line; great staff, easy paperwork, and I’m just so grateful for the booster shot. Thank you!

All of the above👍 Very helpful, smooth quick. No side affects except for a sore arm from the injection for k my one day. Even the parking was easy & quick to find. Cvolunteers were there to help every step of the way. . The Medical staff were professional, kind and informative. Never felt confused or anxious about the process. Thanks so much fir all you have done to make the Covid Vaccine process go so well.

Facts About the COVID Vaccine

Key facts about COVID-19 vaccines in Washington

Studies have shown that COVID-19 vaccines are safe to get and highly effective at preventing you from getting COVID-19. Even if you do get COVID-19, the vaccine prevents you from getting seriously ill. The more people that get vaccinated, the faster we can get back to normal life.

  • They’re safe. Rigorous clinical trials must show that vaccines are safe and effective before they’re authorized for public use. Millions of people have received COVID-19 vaccines, which have undergone the most intensive safety monitoring in US history.
  • They’re effective. All approved vaccines are proven to be highly effective at preventing COVID-19. Based on what we know so far, experts believe that all the approved vaccines will nearly 100% prevent serious illness and death. They may also help protect family, friends, and those around you.
  • They’re free. COVID-19 vaccines will be free for all Americans under the CARES act. The US government has already ordered and paid for hundreds of millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses using US tax dollars to ensure that everyone who wants one can get one.

Top vaccine myths

When deciding to get vaccinated, it’s important to separate fact from fiction.

  • The vaccines will not make you sick with COVID-19.
  • The vaccines do not have a microchip that will track you.
  • The mRNA COVID vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) will not alter your DNA.
  • If you already had COVID-19, that does not mean you don’t need the vaccine.

Approved COVID Vaccines & Boosters for Washington

Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson have each developed COVID vaccines and received emergency use authorization (EUA). Pfizer's vaccine has received EUA for individuals 12 years of age and older, while both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are approved for people 16 and up. During the initial rollout of the vaccine, however, it is unlikely individuals will be able to choose which vaccine they want.

Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) COVID vaccine

On December 11, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first EUA for a vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 in individuals . The emergency use authorization allowed the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S. to individuals 16 years of age and older.

On May 10, 2021 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an EAU for use of the vaccine in children from the ages 12-16. This announcement came after Pfizer’s recent trial of the vaccine in adolescents which demonstrated that the vaccine is at least as effective as it is in adults.

On August 23, 2021, the FDA fully approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, now being referred to as Comirnaty, for ages 16+. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

On November 2, 2021, the FDA provider emergency use authorization (EUA) to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11, making the Pfizer vaccine now available for everyone in the U.S. 5 years of age and older.

Pfizer, in partnership with BioNTech, released an efficacy analysis of their phase 3 trials involving 42,000 people, about half of whom got the experimental vaccine with the other half receiving a placebo. 170 participants contracted COVID-19 with only 8 of them being from the vaccine cohort. This equates to a 95% vaccination success rate, which is about as good as any vaccine, even after years of development, can ever expect. The inoculation process involves two doses, with the second dose administered 3 weeks after the first.

Moderna, NAID COVID vaccine

On December 18, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an EUA for the second vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19. The emergency use authorization allows the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S for use in individuals 18 years of age and older.

On June 25, 2021, the FDA revised the patient and provider fact sheets regarding the suggested increased risks of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart) following vaccination.

On August 12, 2021, the FDA amended the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine EUA to allow for an additional dose to be given to certain immunocompromised individuals.

Similarly to Pfizer, Moderna’s is a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine with a nearly identical efficacy rate of 94.1%. These results follow a 30,000-volunteer study with only 11 positive COVID cases occurring from the group that received the vaccines rather than the placebo. Unlike the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna version does not have as strict refrigeration requirements, likely making their vaccine more easily transported, stored, and administered through existing healthcare infrastructure.

Johnson & Johnson vaccine

In clinical trials, the J&J/Janssen vaccine was 66.3% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people 2 weeks after receiving the vaccine, and had high efficacy at preventing hospitalization and death in people who did get sick. No one who got COVID-19 at least 4 weeks after receiving the J&J/Janssen vaccine had to be hospitalized.

Early evidence suggests that the J&J/Janssen vaccine might provide protection against asymptomatic infection, which is when a person is infected by the virus that causes COVID-19 but does not get sick.

What to Expect

What to expect on vaccination day in Washington

Because COVID-19 vaccines are new, you may have questions about what happens before, during and after your vaccine appointment. Here are some things you can do to prepare.

Before your vaccination:

  • Wear loose-fitting or sleeveless clothing so healthcare workers can easily access your upper arm.
  • Be sure you’re hydrated and limit your intake of alcohol the night before your appointment.
  • It is not recommended to take over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to try and prevent vaccine-related side effects.
  • Do not schedule other vaccine appointments for at least 14 days before or after.
  • Bring proof of your eligibility to make sure you don’t get turned away when you arrive.

During your vaccination:

  • You AND your healthcare worker should wear a mask. Follow the CDC guidelines for protecting yourself and others while in public.
  • You’ll receive a vaccination card telling you which COVID vaccine you received and when. Bring the card to your second dose (for Pfizer or Moderna) and keep it in a safe place for the future.
  • You’ll be monitored on-site for a short period of time after receiving your vaccine to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction (which is very rare).
  • If you receive an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna,) you’ll need to schedule a second shot to make sure you get the most protection.

After your vaccination:

  • You may want to clear your schedule after your vaccination in case you experience side effects. Side effects are usually mild, but may affect your ability to work or go about your day as usual.
  • It takes time for your body to build protection after any vaccination. Vaccines that require 2 shots (like Pfizer or Moderna) may not protect you until about 2 weeks after your second shot. Vaccines that require 1 shot (like Johnson & Johnson) take about 2 weeks to build protection as well.
  • Talk to your doctor about taking over-the-counter medicine, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin, or antihistamines, for any pain and discomfort you may experience after getting vaccinated. You can take these medications to relieve post-vaccination side effects if you have no other medical reasons that prevent you from taking these medications normally.

Possible side effects

Vaccine side effects are normal, healthy signs that your body is building protection. Side effects are typically mild and go away in a few days. If you think you might be having a severe allergic reaction, seek immediate medical care by calling 911.

What to expect after vaccination

Congratulations! 2 weeks after your final vaccine dose, you’re considered fully vaccinated. That means you can start doing certain things you stopped during the pandemic. You should still take precautions in public, though, until scientists know more about how well vaccines prevent transmission to others.

Read more: Fully vaccinated? Here’s what you can start doing again safely" (the full article title is linked) https://www.solvhealth.com/blog/fully-vaccinated-here-s-what-you-can-start-doing-again-safely

What can I now do safely in Washington?

  • You can gather indoors with other fully vaccinated people without wearing masks.
  • You can see unvaccinated people indoors, too, as long as they’re from one other household. (For example, visiting a child/grandchild and their family, or a group of friends who live together.)
  • If you’ve been around someone who has had COVID-19, you don’t need to stay away from others or get tested unless you start experiencing symptoms.
  • If you live in a group home or facility and are exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should still quarantine for 14 days and get a COVID test, even if you don’t have symptoms.

What safety measures should I continue taking?

  • You should still take the same precautions you’re used to (wearing a mask, staying 6 ft apart, avoiding crowded and poorly ventilated spaces) to protect yourself and others while in public, or when you gather with unvaccinated people from more than one household.
  • You should still delay domestic and international travel. If you do choose to travel, you still need to follow the CDC recommendations, as well as the local requirements of the place you’re visiting.
  • You should continue to monitor yourself for symptoms, especially if you’ve been around someone that’s feeling sick. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, get a COVID test and stay away from others.
  • You should still continue to follow any guidelines set by your workplace and local businesses.

Clinical trials are currently underway to determine whether the vaccines are safe and effective for use for younger children 11 years old and younger. While it is possible that a vaccine will be approved for use in these age groups before the start of school in August 2021, Dr. Anthony Fauci recently stated during a White House COVID-19 response briefing that there could be "enough information to be able to safely vaccinate children of virtually any age" by the end of the year, citing recent data from Pfizer on the safety and efficacy of its vaccine in adolescents. While these age groups remain unvaccinated, social distancing and masking policies will keep your child safe from infection. We will update this page as the situation develops.

  • How long will the COVID vaccine last?

New research finds that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines provide viral immunity for at least 6 months, but since COVID-19 is so new, experts aren’t sure if immunity will wane after that. A vaccine is a medicine designed to defend against diseases by introducing the immune system to a virus in a safe way. This process allows the immune system to learn how to defeat it by generating antibodies specific to the virus. These antibodies will help ward off future infections and in some cases prevent re-infection. Scientists are still researching how long antibodies last for coronavirus (COVID-19), which could inform how long a vaccine will last.
