Maine is ranked as one of the top spenders for healthcare per person in the country. In fact, the average cost for healthcare is over $8,500 per person, per year. One reason for the high cost of healthcare in the state is because of the low number of urgent care facilities.

Urgent Care in Maine

Today there are insufficient urgent care facilities for those who need same-day urgent medical treatment in Maine. With such a high demand for urgent care centers in the state, it's no wonder that many physicians and facilities are working toward increasing the number of urgent care centers in the state. Urgent care facilities are able to take some of the pressure off of emergency rooms and allow for proper care for non-life-threatening illnesses.

Walk-in Clinics in Maine

Walk-in clinics provide patients with same-day care. These centers don't offer the same options as urgent care, but those who need to see a medical professional about mild to moderate illness or injury are able to visit the walk-in clinics in the state. One walk-in clinic in Bangor sees about 25,000 people per year. As walk-in clinics become more popular in the state, the medical costs per person are likely to start coming down, helping to improve the state's overall ranking.

Main is ranked 9th in the country for healthcare. With a high prevalence of both smoking and obesity, many people seek healthcare due to complications. Public health funding in the state averages about $83 per person, with a total of 1.329 million people in the state.

Probably the most reliable and friendly clinic I've ever been too. The NP who run the place make an effort to know you and understand your problems. Wait times tend to be a little longer but I can appreciate that because I know the NP are actually taking their time to care about you and your health.

I had a gallbladder attack and needed an ultrasound to confirm if I needed surgery or not. I called Intermed urgent care and they made an appointment for me right away. I was seen within 5 minutes of getting there even though i showed up early. All of the nurses were fantastic and kind as well as the wonderful doctor I saw. Since I was leaving for a flight in the afternoon, they got me in for an ultrasound and bloodwork immediately and had the results to me within 20 minutes. Absolutely fantastic and easy experience
