I was feeling awful. The receptionist was my first encounter.. Absolutely proficient and caring. The Nurse was my next encounter, she was outstanding!! Ensured I was comfortable and provided water as I was coughing so much. The provider actually carefully listened to what i said. Not just in a hurry and brushing me off. She took the time to explain test results and plan of care going forward.. This was my second visit here.. Love it!

I find it very odd that a person would need to get an appointment to be seen at an Urgent Care Facility. Hence the term Urgent in the very nature of the Clinic Title and Name its definition description implies no appointment needed. Not walk on in and when we have an opening amongst all our appointments you will be seen. This is not a clinical hospital it is an Urgent Care. Nobody should be subjected to appointments. It should be a first come first serve basis. Now if you had one doctor dedicated to appointments and everyone else handling walking I could understand that. But, to be a walk in and then sit there for 5 hours while appointment people walking and are seen before me is infuriating. I will acknowledge that the last time I walked in I only had to wait 45 minutes. So, maybe this Urgent Care has resigned its appointment system. People do not plan to get get. This is why Urgent Care was created. To help people be seen faster than going to an ER.

After seeing such a hateful lie filled review of this place I had to write my own. I have been going here for 4 years and not only has it not been dirty EVER, The staff have ALWAYS been gracious and friendly and even gone above and beyond to make sure patients get in to see the doctor when they need it. They have been busy quite a few times and I have had to wait awhile. But that happens when a place takes walk ins and is an urgent care clinic and is not something that I can fault them for. All in all most every appointment here has been great with the doctor taking time to make sure I understand what I am taking and why.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Just got COVID-19 PCR test, wait time a bit excessive. Appointment at 4:20pm, was seen at 5:05, then had to wait again for discharge paperwork, finally out at 5:30. They should streamline Covid testing separate from medical visits, would be more efficient. I'll be back again for another test in 10 days, we shall see how it goes.

Danielle was amazing and made my COVID test quick and painless. Front desk staff were great too! (sorry I didn't get their names)

- Verified patient on 6/29

Since we scheduled a Covid test and had already done the paperwork on-line, I really didn’t expect to have to fill out another 8 pages of paperwork after we got there. We received it frim an unmasked receptionist in a waiting room with several people. However, the test itself was professionally done and they also helped us with an unrelated problem.

- Verified patient on 7/10

Booking online appmnt was quick and actual office visit was smooth as silk. In and out for covid testing within 30mins and friendly attitudes and smiles put me at ease. Busy clinic but my experience was nothing but good.

- Verified patient on 9/12

No walk-ins!!! Will make an appointment and then make you wait five hours COVID tests all day. Don’t sit in the waiting room!!!!! Good luck

- Verified patient on 9/11

Had a Covid test done so that wasn’t great but there is nothing the folks at Urgent Care can do about that.

- Verified patient on 12/21

The nurse that conducted the covid test was very kind & gentle. She took into account the nerves & medical issues for the test.

- Verified patient on 3/4

Made an appointment for a COVID test. Didnt get in to have the test until an hour after my appointment time. Staff was friendly. Spent more time with the nurse, the nurse practitioner was with me for about a minute didnt feel like they could do a lot in that time.

- Verified patient on 1/22

Came in for strange allergy symptoms and they listened to everything I had to say. They treated me and did a covid test just in case. I would definitely come back again.

- Verified patient on 1/7

I waited for 2.5 hours for a COVID test. They called 7 people who arrived and checked in after me. When I asked what the reason was all they could say is that’s the way they’re gabbing the clipboards.

- Verified patient on 7/29

Extremely slow. I came in for a Covid test. The test itself only took three minutes but I was in there for over an hour.

- Verified patient on 12/21

Went for COVID test went well even better when results came back negative.

- Verified patient on 12/7

My 2nd Covid test there. Staff was very friendly. Chelsea administered my nose test each time. Both times she did an excellent job. She is the best

- Verified patient on 12/9

The wait was crazy. There was a needle cap and paper tabs in floor in examining room. In order to get a tissue I had to reach down in the tissue box. I was there for a Covid test!

- Verified patient on 4/5

Shortest wait time yet. Just had Covid testing done. In and out in 30 minutes. Everyone was nice and attentive.

- Verified patient on 9/19

Made an appointment at 12:30 to get the covid test done so I can go back to work since I had quarantined for 2 weeks. Had my 2 month old daughter with me so I worked her schedule around this appointment. Checked in and sat in my car for over 30 min, went inside to ask the front desk how much longer because my daughter was getting fussy. This was a little over 1:00pm. She told me there were still 3-4ppl ahead of me. So I go back outside and not even 1 minute later I get the message that they are ready to see me. I go in get the test done and nurse tells me I have to wait to be seen by the doctor. Which I don't know why when all I needed was the test. So I sat in the room for another 30 minutes and by this time my daughter was not having it and I asked the nurses how much longer and if I really needed to be seen by the doctor and they said I was next. I go back in my room and then a nurse walks in with paperwork and says I apologize for the wait, you've been here 1 hour and 5 minutes. I told her I was sorry but I had to go because my daughter was not having it and she again repeated how long I've been there all rude like I was screaming at her or something. Which I never raised my voice or was rude. All I simply asked was if I had to actually be seen by the doctor since I was just there for the test and I had to leave due to my daughter. I understand there will be wait times and it gets busy but what is the point of having to make an appointment to just sit there when you're not making an appointment to get seen by a doctor???

- Verified patient on 11/20

The wait time was far too long. I had an 11:30am appointment and wasn't seen until 12:50pm, for a simple Covid test. There were others coming in for the same thing. Perhaps it might be a good idea to have one nurse and/or one nurse practitioner concentrate solely on Covid testings. They can rotate days so they can still see regular patients on alternate days. Hopefully that can speed things up. The front office staff can also communicate better and be friendlier too. On a second note: I had a family member that was injured and required stitches. My husband called ahead to learn if your facility could accommodate him and was told yes. His wife tried checking him in and was trying to ask the woman at the front desk a question. The woman at the front desk repeatedly ignored her, would not acknowledge her, until her husband finally got upset and told his wife they needed to leave ( since he was bleeding and in lots of pain). Only then did the woman at the front desk ask them to wait a minute while she went to get someone. They were still advised to go to the hospital. Why tell them you can accommodate them to get them to come in if you are not going to be able to assist them?!?!? He was bleeding and needed stitches. Luckily it wasn't life threatening but time was lost by going to your facility. You should have just told them to go straight to the hospital when they called. Lastly, another family member recently went to your facility for pain. Your staff told him that he needed to go to the hospital to be x-rayed because you didn't have the equipment. Why advertise it if you can't do it? My husband and I both used your facility last year and the service was wonderful. It seems to have changed this year and the quality has gone down. I'm disappointed.

- Verified patient on 11/18

Went in for a covid test had to wait a little because they were busy but over all ok a little crowded inside so I had to wait outside

- Verified patient on 4/12

Everyone was friendly and made sure I was comfortable while waiting on my covid test! Keep up the positivity and great work!

- Verified patient on 12/23

Not to be harsh and understood during the pandemic but I had an appointment at 4:40 pm, showed up as requested, 10 minutes early and did not get seen until close to an hour later. I did not have an emergency and just went in for a COVID test. My recommendation is for the front staff to be upfront with the patients and let us know there may be a long wait. That allows the non-urgent folks to decide whether to wait an hour or return at a time when it is less busy. Nonetheless, I do recommend this clinic. They are efficient and professional.

Copperas Cove COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Copperas Cove?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Copperas Cove?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Copperas Cove-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Copperas Cove?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Copperas Cove including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Copperas Cove?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Copperas Cove-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Copperas Cove?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Copperas Cove are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Copperas Cove?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Copperas Cove?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
