CareXpress Urgent Care, Downtown - 400 SW 14th Ave
All of the stall at Downtown CareXpress is so friendly and caring. I am so remarkably impressed with Patricia Turnbow. Today after seeing there was no bacteria in my UTI she asked if I had ever had a cystoscopy? I have had twice. The first one I was told my limitation of what I can drink. She asked if anyone has ever told me the possibility of Interstitial cystitis? Due to the number of UTIs I have in a year the information sheet fits my problem. I was told it isn’t curable, stick to the diet we discussed and she prescribed me  Urimar-T. I always leave feeling like I get the best advice and healthcare. I won’t leave out that the office and exam rooms are always noticeably clean. Also yes they somehow work me in on the same day.

Getting Urgent Care in Amarillo, TX

What is urgent care?

Urgent care is a category of walk-in care in a dedicated medical facility outside of a traditional emergency room. Urgent care centers primarily treat injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care, but not serious enough to require an ER visit. These centers are equipped to handle non-life-threatening situations and are often open after regular doctor's hours, providing an essential healthcare service. Urgent care is a convenient and viable option for medical conditions that cannot wait for a scheduled appointment with a primary care physician.

Common services and reasons for visit

Urgent care centers offer a wide range of services to address various health concerns. Here are some common reasons why people visit urgent care:

  • Minor fractures and sprains: Urgent care centers often have X-ray facilities to diagnose and treat minor fractures and sprains.

  • Cuts and burns: Minor to moderate cuts, burns, and other injuries can be treated at urgent care.

  • Respiratory infections: Conditions such as bronchitis, pneumonia, and the flu can be treated at urgent care centers.

  • Diagnostic services: Many urgent care centers provide lab tests, blood tests, and X-rays.

  • Preventive care: Some urgent care centers offer preventive care services, including vaccinations and physical examinations.

Types of healthcare providers

At an urgent care center, you may encounter various types of healthcare providers, each with a specific role and set of expertise:

  • Physicians: They are medical doctors who diagnose and treat illnesses. Their training involves a four-year medical school degree followed by a residency program.

  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs): NPs are registered nurses with advanced training and education. They can diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, and provide treatment.

  • Physician Assistants (PAs): PAs are licensed to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. They can examine, diagnose, and treat patients.

  • Medical Assistants: They perform administrative and certain clinical tasks under the direction of a physician. Their duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and taking vital signs.

  • Radiologic Technologists: They specialize in taking X-rays and managing radiologic equipment.

When to go to an urgent care

Urgent care centers are ideal for addressing non-life-threatening health issues that require immediate attention. These could include minor fractures, sprains, burns, cuts that may need stitches, severe cold or flu symptoms, and minor allergic reactions. Urgent care centers in Amarillo, TX, provide fast, efficient service, often with shorter wait times than you'd experience in an emergency room. They are equipped with lab and imaging services to aid in rapid diagnosis and treatment.

Urgent care vs emergency room (ER)

While both urgent care centers and emergency rooms provide immediate care, they serve different purposes. ERs are designed to treat severe, life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, severe wounds, or injuries requiring surgery. Urgent care centers, on the other hand, handle less severe conditions that still require prompt attention. They are a more cost-effective and time-efficient alternative to ERs for non-emergency situations. However, if a condition is life-threatening, always go to the ER or dial 911.

Urgent care vs primary care

Primary care physicians are your go-to for regular check-ups, preventive healthcare, and managing chronic conditions. They know your health history and provide personalized, continuous care. Urgent care centers, however, are more suitable for immediate, non-life-threatening conditions when your primary care physician is not available. They offer extended hours, including weekends and holidays, and do not require an appointment. Yet, they are not a replacement for a primary care physician's ongoing care.

Urgent care vs retail clinic

Retail clinics, often found in pharmacies or supermarkets, provide care for simple conditions like minor infections, skin conditions, or preventive services like vaccinations. They are staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants and do not usually have a physician on-site. Urgent care centers, however, can handle more complex conditions, have a physician on-site, and offer more comprehensive services, including X-rays and lab tests. While retail clinics can be a convenient option for minor issues, urgent care centers in Amarillo, TX, provide a broader scope of immediate care.

What to Expect with Your Visit

Visiting an urgent care center in Amarillo, TX, is a straightforward process designed to provide you with quick, efficient medical attention. Here's what you can expect from your visit, from preparation to follow-up care.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before heading to an urgent care center, there are a few things you can do to ensure a smooth visit. Bring a valid form of identification and your insurance card, if you have one. Also, prepare a list of any medications you're currently taking, including dosages, and any allergies you have. If you have any previous medical records that you think may be relevant, bring them along as well. Finally, it's always a good idea to jot down any symptoms or questions you have for the healthcare provider.

During Your Visit

When you arrive at the urgent care center, you'll first check in at the front desk. You'll then be asked to fill out some paperwork regarding your medical history and current symptoms. Once this is done, you'll be seen by a healthcare provider. They will examine you, ask about your symptoms, and may order tests or imaging if necessary.

Additional Services

Many urgent care centers offer additional services such as lab tests, X-rays, and vaccinations. These services are usually available on-site, making it convenient for you to receive comprehensive care in one location.

Follow-up Care and Communication

After your visit, the healthcare provider may give you instructions for home care or prescribe medication. It's important to follow these instructions carefully. If you have any questions or concerns after your visit, don't hesitate to reach out to the clinic. Many urgent care centers also offer follow-up visits to ensure your recovery is going well.

Cost and Insurance Details

The cost of an urgent care visit can vary, but typically, you can expect to pay between $71 and $125 for basic care. Additional services like shots, X-rays, and lab tests may incur extra costs. This is still significantly less than the average cost of an emergency room visit, which can average around $1,318. Most urgent care centers accept insurance, as well as Medicare and Medicaid, making them a cost-effective option for many patients.

In simple terms, an urgent care is seen as a walk-in health center that focuses in offering non-emergent health care conditions, including the treatment of the typical illnesses and injuries such as fractures and sprains, cuts and burns, scrapes, stings and bites, flu and cold symptoms, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and much more. Most urgent care facilities offer both diagnostic and preventive care such as well visits, immunizations, STD testing and annual physicals. For regular visits and check-ups on these clinics, you should expect to pay between $20 and $100. The good thing is that most urgent care clinics will accept major PPOs and insurance cover, Medicare, as well as self-pay in the form of credit cards or cash. Urgent care clinics are located in most parts of the country in various regions to offset emergency room visits and provide a gap in healthcare services. They take patients during all hours of operations, which offer a significant convenience to most people who have and continue to undergo the need for sudden and immediate medical attention.

Hello, this was my first visit to Fast Aid. My experience was that everything was top notch, other than one minor glitch The the x-ray report was given to me on a dvd-r. My laptop is able to read disks, however it wasn't able to read this one. So I wasn't able to follow up with my PCP later that afternoon. Even if I was able to read the disk it is an older technology that isn't used nearly as much as it used to. It seems like they might want to look into better ways to share information. But it was really no big deal and didn't taint an otherwise pleasant visit. This isn't me complaining, merely providing constructive feedback. Again I will say that overall I was pleased with the services provided. Anyway I am hoping the good service continues, so I know I'll have a place to go for urgent care. To me this was so much easier and faster than trying to get in to see my PCP. It wasn't an emergency so it didn't make sense to me to go to an ER. Fast Aid seems to me to be this go between. It's a great idea. Sort of like the difference between going to the Walgreen's around the corner instead of having to drive all the way across town to go to the grocery store, just to get one or two items real quick. This location is super convenient for me too. Glad they're in town now. Thanks!

Urgent Care is a place I now choose fire my medical needs. The girls out front are sweet and get their job done! Harris is not only professional, but caring and understanding with her patients. She is knowledgeable and has helped me n family when we seek medical attention. I went to the facility on Monday, November 23. They were busy and Harris was not in that day. There was a male NP attending patients. I did not get his name. Well I really didn’t think I got the medical attention I was looking for. He was rushing, I am post Covid so my voice is not normal, I shake and my oxygen levels drop when I do things. He looked frustrated. I wasn’t even given chance to tell him what all was wrong with me. He did take chest X-ray. Then proceeded in sending me to the ER, where I waited 3.5 hours while people with Covid and lord knows what where walking in and some had no mask. So I walked out, did not want to go through that illness again. I just felt like he didn’t want to deal with me so passed me on. I know my lungs are weak and need oxygen at home... I was in tuba Ted 15 days in icu and spent time in rehabilitation hospital to walk and talk again! Why not just get me some oxygen to go home ? Anyway, Now I’ll be suffering until After Thanksgiving! I’ve always told my staff.. off you do not love what you do, then go find it!

I was sick all night. Couldn't stop vomiting so my Husband took me to the BSA urgent care. Wonderful staff Wonderful treatment. Thank you. They really care about how you feel.

I have 2 toddlers go to the daycare and when 1 get sick then the other one will be next. That’s why my kids are their regular patients as they get sick all time. I usually booked the appointment but then one time I was told “first come first serve, appointment was just for the paperwork”. Ok fine, next time I walked in with no appointment and was told “no walk in accepted, appointment only”. I was so confused as what to do because the management kept on changing their mind. My kid was sick I couldnt wait until tomorrow so I left to another urgent care that day. Tonight, I made an appointment, as I walked in the receptionist already knew by confirmed the name. She was quickly get us a room. The nurses were very thorough and professional. When the dr walked in; I was so happy and felt so lucky when I saw that was Dr Jeannie Huynh. She is the reason why I came back to this place after many issues we had. She always explained the cause and then the treatment so clearly. She always gave the correct diagnosis. I wish they have her as a regular dr at this location.

First time at this facility. Wait time was a bit long, but considering Covid has caused lots of issues, we can totally understand why wait times may be longer. My husband saw Anita Allison, FNP-C. She was very thorough, professional, actually listened to us, and made us both feel so much better. Front desk staff and nurses were all terrific as well. While no one necessarily likes to go to an ER/Urgent Care; everyone at Care Express on Ross/Osage made our experience as painless as possible. We also thank all of them for the excellent care we received, especially during a pandemic. Definitely recommend!

Got right in, got what I needed, friendly staff. My new go-to for urgent care!

- Verified patient on 10/10

This was our first experience at this pedi urgent care and I was very impressed. The staff was incredible and so accommodating to us. Our 6 yr old came in with strep symptoms and was in a lot of pain and discomfort. They accommodated her immediately to ensure she was comfortable while we waited our turn. Even letting her lay down in a vacant room while we waited. They checked on us periodically to let us know where we stood in line and talked so kindly to both of us. Best urgent care experience by far. I have 2 suggestions - 1. Since it’s a pedi focused urgent care it would be lovely to have bright and colorful decor surrounding us while we waited. The walls were completely bare and beige. Something simple like color and bright pictures but can really change a mood. 2. Instead of offering a sucker at the end (with the stickers - thank you) offer brave little boys and girls a toy. I understand the reason to reward them but if their immune system is already compromised it’s not a good idea to introduce high fructose corn syrup, sugar and dyes into their system that’s already fighting. A silly cheap toy would be just as rewarding without being detrimental. The stickers were great though and definitely made her smile!! Overall- really positive experience!!

I called and the man that answered the phone was friendly and very helpful so I decided to come in. I usually go somewhere else. When I got there he was just as helpful. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. I will always use this urgent care!😊

I waited for 6 hours at Texas childrens urgent care with my toddler who had 104.2 fever so I decided to try here. Got in very quick even when they was busy and very nice. The only problem which was very stressful is that I had my husband and me with our sick 2 year old and 5 month old. They told me 1 parent per room but I couldn’t handle both babies by myself so they split us up. My 2 year old was screaming for me but COVID protocol they couldn’t put us together. It was stressful not being in the same room together and having to hold my baby down so the doctor can check him. The doctor didn’t understand why they didn’t put us together as well. I made it clear to every nurse and staff I saw that I had both kids there and had to run back and forth to try to help my husband and my baby. They was really nice and professional but it made it a hassle and Texas childrens didn’t have a problem with us being in the same room. Just didn’t want to wait for 6 hours to be seen.

I went in with a dog bite to my hand. It was a deep puncture. I was in so much pain. They cleaned my hand ,took X-rays and put a splint on it. I had a Tetanus shot as well. They were so compassionate, kind and thorough. My appointment was at 5:45 and I was on my way home by 7 pm. I did not wait at all to see the medical staff. I was prescribed antibiotics and Motrin and this morning, I woke pain free. I am so grateful to the entire wonderful staff. I just cannot day enough good things about this place. I recommend it highly. This is where I’ll be coming from now on. I had called several other places before this and the other places wanted me to report my dog , they told me I’d have an extremely long wait and then my husband called Southwest Urgent Care. What a wonderful difference! I felt at ease immediately and they took such good care of me. I am beyond satisfied with their service. They are extremely knowledgeable, professional, yet friendly, kind and patient . One of the best experiences I have ever had at a clinic. I may be gushing, but they certainly deserve accolades!! Thank you so much from a very satisfied and happy patient.

Dr. Marco Vela excellent dr great sense if humor. I saw him fir the 1st time at Urgent care ❤ he took care if me and my pain in mt ears with antibiotics and a wonderful shot for pain. As for thw staff @ Urgent Care wonderful and polite. But staff at Dr Habers off the FRONT desk people and the off staff very RUDE. One of them told me i have to hear this all the time. I said well this should tell you something is not right.i told her its sad to hear yoy say this so i will maje sure Dr Milton hears about this cause he probably doesn't even know whats happening in his off. We have been patients of his for over thirty plus yrs. She hanged up phone twice left me on hold and then she put someone else to take my appt fir me and my husband Adan ana Maria Guajardo we LOVE DR HABER HE IS A EXCELLENT DR AND I TOLD HER I AM SURE IF HE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON HE WOULD TELL YOU ALL TO BE MORE COURTEOUS ESP SINCE HE HAS MANY OLDER PATIENTS LIKE US IN THE MID 60 AND ALL THIS VIRTUAL OFF VISITS IS NEW TO US W THIS PANDEMIC AND WE EXPECT AND DESERVE TO BE TREATED NICELY. IF UT WAS UP TO US WE WOULD STICK TO SEEING HIM IN PERSON HE IS ALWAYS FRIENDLY. SO TELL STAFF TO PUT THEMSELVES IN OUR SHOES. AND TO BE NICER, CAUSE IT WOULD BE SAD TO HAVE TO CHG DR AFTER 30 PLUS HE KNOWS ALL OUR HISTORY AND IS PART IF OUR LIVES HE IS LIKE FAMILY TO US.

Waited a bit after being admitted but there were obvious more urgent patients that needed immediate cate. Staff was friendly and thorough; made an effort to make sure I understood what was happening and next steps for my busted big toe. Showed me how to wrap it up properly and gave some guidance on activity levels and healing time. Sent xrays and a report (unlike other urgent cares) home with me for follow up care needs. The nurse was great! Kept the mood light despite my pain level and frustration with having to be there in the first place. He was able to make much needed candid conversation in the stressful situation and took the time to show his true care for my wellbeing. Incredibly refreshing for an urgent care clinic. The kind lady at check in also took the time to explain that PrimaCare also works with VA benefits - being a future mil spouse this is new knowledge and I am forever grateful for her explaining how and what plans they work with. Having to go to an urgent care isn’t a great experience to begin with, but this is the best urgent care experience I’ve had in years!

The BSA CareXpress Urgent Care Center downtown is Not part of BSA! I asked, the cost of a couple of stitches because I cut my finger before I seen the nurse practitioner. The woman behind the counter said about $350. I told her, that I was self-pay with no insurance. I was in and out after they glued a 1 inch cut on my finger.. The family group medicine that runs that center tried to charge me $712 for 30 minutes!! That is ridiculous for no insurance and self-pay for 30 minutes! I will never go back!! I will list reviews everywhere how they tried to rip me off! They finally adjusted my bill down after I got upset!

I reported to the front desk and told them I had an appointment to be tested at 7 pm. I was told to wait outside and I would receive a text when they were ready to see me. On the website I saw where I could fill out some paperwork which I did. The front desk came out to get me and asked for my paperwork. I told them that I had filled it out on line. The young lady said”ok, we’ll just need some initials.” I was led to a room where I was given copies of the paperwork I had already filled out on line with “x”s for my initials. I went ahead and initialed each “x”. The nurse came in, took the paperwork from me and told me, “But you didn’t fill out the rest of the information.” By this time I was more than frustrated with the whole situation and the nurse sensed it. She offered to finish filling out the paperwork. I would like to mention that this was none of her doing. The rest of my experience was actually very good. This is the second time we use this urgent care clinic and will probably use it in the future. Just need more attention at the front desk.

CareXpress Summit Location exceeded my expectations today. After having a horrible experience at another urgent care facility, they were more than willing to get me taken care of and wanted to make sure I started to feel better. I cannot thank them enough. I highly recommend them!
