Urgent care
Staff here from the front desk to the person person taking blood pressure, getting my blood drawn to the doctor/nurse practitioner that I seen were all very friendly, caring and professional. Was one of the last to leave but didn't feel like they were trying to rush me. Out and took the time to note my symptoms. I appreciate it and them.

Place is very welcoming and staff and doctor are  very kind. It doesn’t feel like a doctors office waiting room. Highly recommend if you need to be seen and can’t get into your own doctor. I made my appointment the night before and it was a smooth in and out process.

Urgent care
This is the best urgent care place. In fact, the doctor actually saved my life!! I went in because of I thought a small bump on my thigh was a syst and was bothering me. The Dr. sent me for a biopsy. Turned out to be cancer, a very rare form of sarcoma, that likes to travel to the lungs and such. If not for this Dr. at this clinic I would not be here writing this review!! A great big THANK YOU to Dr. Vance Angeles!! love you all and may God bless each of you!! Helen Knoll

The name of the clinic has changed, but the experience was the same. I've been there probably 6 times when I couldn't get into my dr. quickly. Week-ends and evenings. Never waited longer than an hour which sure beats the E.R.

Urgent care
This urgent care is efficient and a caring place. I've been a client here at least three times in 2 years. Although the client goes elsewhere for x-rays if needed, I still like that the medical stuff listens and if needed, prescribes medication. I've also been there for covid testing, which is do e outside the clinic. All clients must have their temperature taken before seeing medical personnel. This place isuch better than waiting for hours in an E.R.

Urgent Care in Modesto, CA

Modesto sits in the heart of California's Central Valley, anchoring Stanislaus County — the nation's #1 almond-producing county and a region where agricultural occupational injuries, summer heat illness, and trapped Central Valley air pollution drive a year-round urgent care load. According to the American Lung Association's 2024 "State of the Air" report, Stanislaus County earns failing grades on both ozone and particle pollution1, and Modesto residents have two competing Level II Trauma Centers a few minutes apart — Doctors Medical Center of Modesto and Sutter Memorial Medical Center — that anchor the city's emergency network.2,3

When should you choose urgent care instead of the ER?

Urgent care in Modesto is built for the in-between — the cough, sprain, UTI, fever, minor cut, or work injury that needs same-day evaluation but does not need a Level II trauma activation. Doctors Medical Center and Memorial Medical Center should be reserved for chest pain, suspected stroke, major trauma, severe asthma, broken bones with deformity, or anything you fear is life-threatening.2,3 For everything else, walk-in clinics like Sutter Gould Urgent Care on Coffee Road or California Urgent Care Center on Roselle Avenue will see you faster and bill far less than the ED.

What do Modesto urgent care clinics treat?

Modesto urgent cares handle the same broad complaint list you'd find anywhere — respiratory illness, ear infections, rashes, fractures and sprains, lacerations needing stitches, dehydration, and basic occupational health screens for the dairy, almond, and trucking workforce concentrated across Stanislaus County. They also cover routine school and work physicals. If you need a DOT physical in Modesto, a sports physical in Modesto, or a same-day STI test, walk-in urgent care is usually the lowest-friction option.

How does Central Valley air quality affect urgent care demand?

According to the American Lung Association's 2024 "State of the Air" report, Stanislaus County recorded 56 unhealthy ozone days and 42 unhealthy particle pollution days in the reporting period, with 35,728 adults and 7,433 children living with asthma county-wide.1 That translates into a steady walk-in volume of asthma exacerbations, bronchitis, sinusitis, and allergic conjunctivitis — especially during summer ozone peaks and winter PM2.5 inversions when valley air stagnates against the Sierra. Modesto urgent cares are well-practiced at nebulizer treatments, peak-flow assessments, and short courses of oral steroids for adults and children whose chronic respiratory conditions flare with the air.

How does insurance and Medi-Cal work in Modesto?

Most Modesto urgent care clinics accept commercial PPO, HMO, Medicare, and California's Medicaid program — Medi-Cal — though Medi-Cal coverage depends on your assigned managed care plan. Stanislaus County Medi-Cal members are typically enrolled with Health Net or Anthem Blue Cross under the state's managed care model, and Kaiser Permanente Modesto serves Kaiser members exclusively. If you're uninsured, Stanislaus County Health Services Agency runs sliding-fee community health centers (including 917 Oakdale Road) that price visits based on income and household size.

Where are Modesto's Level II Trauma Centers and what does that mean for you?

Modesto is unusual for a mid-size city: it has two competing Level II Trauma Centers within the same metro. Doctors Medical Center of Modesto, a 461-bed acute-care hospital in north Modesto, holds Level II Trauma Center designation with 24/7 general, specialty, and trauma surgery coverage.2 Sutter Memorial Medical Center at 1700 Coffee Road also operates as a Level II Trauma Center with a full-service 24-hour emergency department.3 For Modesto patients, this redundancy means short transfer distances for serious injuries — but for non-emergent complaints, that ED capacity costs money you don't have to spend. Urgent care is almost always the right first stop for non-life-threatening conditions.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • How long is the average ER wait in Modesto compared to urgent care?

Modesto's two Level II Trauma Centers — Doctors Medical Center and Sutter Memorial Medical Center — keep wait times prioritized by severity, which means non-emergent patients often wait 2 to 4 hours behind trauma activations. Urgent care visits booked on Solv typically take 30 to 60 minutes door to door.
  • Does Modesto urgent care accept Medi-Cal?

Most Modesto urgent cares accept Medi-Cal through Stanislaus County's managed care plans (Health Net and Anthem Blue Cross), and Kaiser Permanente Modesto serves Kaiser Medi-Cal members. Always confirm your specific Medi-Cal plan with the clinic before booking — coverage rules can vary by managed care organization.
  • What kinds of insurance do Modesto urgent care clinics accept?

Modesto urgent care clinics typically accept commercial PPO and HMO plans, Medicare, TRICARE, and Medi-Cal under the county's contracted managed care plans. Most clinics also offer a self-pay cash price for uninsured patients — Solv shows the cash price up front when available.
  • When should I go to the ER instead of urgent care in Modesto?

Go to Doctors Medical Center or Sutter Memorial Medical Center for chest pain, suspected stroke (face droop, arm weakness, speech changes), severe difficulty breathing, major trauma, deep wounds with heavy bleeding, suspected broken bones with visible deformity, head injuries with loss of consciousness, or any condition you reasonably fear is life-threatening. Both hospitals operate Level II Trauma Centers 24/7.
  • Are any Modesto urgent care clinics open 24 hours or on weekends?

Most Modesto urgent care clinics keep extended weekday hours and stay open Saturday and Sunday, typically closing in the evening rather than running 24/7. For overnight non-emergent care, your options are the Doctors Medical Center or Sutter Memorial emergency departments — both open 24/7 — though ED bills will be substantially higher than urgent care for the same complaint.
  • Can I get treated for asthma flare-ups and allergy attacks from Central Valley air pollution at urgent care?

Yes. Modesto urgent cares routinely treat asthma exacerbations, bronchitis, and allergic conjunctivitis triggered by Central Valley ozone and PM2.5 pollution. They can administer nebulizer treatments, prescribe rescue inhalers and short courses of oral steroids, and refer you to a pulmonologist if your chronic condition is poorly controlled.
  • Do Modesto urgent care clinics handle agricultural and trucking occupational injuries?

Yes. Several Modesto and Stanislaus County urgent cares — including Concentra and dedicated occupational health programs — handle workers' compensation for almond, dairy, trucking, and warehouse workers across the I-5 and Hwy 99 corridors. They can perform DOT physicals, drug screens, post-injury exams, and post-employment-offer screening.
