AFC Urgent Care, Hickory - 955 2nd St NE
I was able to schedule an appointment in the middle of the night for first thing in the morning. I was able to pre-check in so had only a few minutes wait time after we arrived.  The medical personnel was polite and efficient and check out and co-pay was covered on arrival so I was able to leave and pick up prescription on the way home. I think it went very well for short notice.

I had roaring and deafness in my ears.  Walked in hardly got checked in and they took me back.   They took vitals asked questions, doctor came in.  Super friendly and understood the problem.  I had fluid/infection in both ears.  Sent in meds, talked about over the counter meds to also help.  Wonderful experience!   This is my 4th time there.  I highly recommend them!!

About Chickenpox Testing

Chickenpox Testing is a diagnostic test used to detect the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which causes chickenpox. Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection characterized by itchy, red spots and blisters all over the body. Chickenpox Testing is important for confirming the diagnosis, especially in cases with atypical symptoms, and for guiding appropriate medical management.

Who Should Get Tested

If you reside in Hudson, North Carolina, and have symptoms suggestive of chickenpox, such as fever, headache, and a rash that progresses to itchy blisters, Chickenpox Testing is recommended. Testing is also valuable for individuals with a history of exposure to someone with chickenpox to assess their immunity status.

Tests Included in Chickenpox Testing

Chickenpox Testing typically involves:

  • VZV IgM Antibody Test: Detects specific antibodies produced early in the course of a chickenpox infection.
  • VZV IgG Antibody Test: Detects antibodies that indicate past infection or immunity to chickenpox.

Interpreting the Results

The interpretation of Chickenpox Testing results involves assessing the presence of VZV-specific antibodies in the blood. Positive results for VZV IgM indicate a recent or active infection, while positive results for VZV IgG indicate immunity due to past infection or vaccination.

Importance of Chickenpox Testing

Chickenpox Testing is important for:

  • Confirming the diagnosis of chickenpox
  • Identifying individuals at risk of complications, especially pregnant women, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems
  • Preventing the spread of chickenpox to others
  • Assessing immunity in individuals exposed to the virus for appropriate management

Following the Test

After Chickenpox Testing, healthcare providers discuss the results with individuals and provide guidance on managing the infection and preventing its transmission to others. Vaccination may be recommended for susceptible individuals to prevent future chickenpox infections.

Chickenpox Testing is a valuable tool in Hudson, North Carolina, to promptly diagnose and manage chickenpox cases, thereby reducing the risk of complications and containing the spread of the virus.
