The overall experience was pretty good. Dr seemed to listen to what all I had to say. The lady who came in 1st to get some info seemed a little......tense & not happy to be there. But dr listened and was very concerned and analyzing what I said. She gave me some meds & note & suggested I stay home for rest of the weekend to rest.

Urgent care
I had heard wonderful things about this AFC urgent care and it was definitely 💯 true. I went online to schedule and complete the required paperwork and then arrived at there office location.  I was greeted by Asha at the front desk with a friendly smile and was quickly taken to the back by staff,Shreya. She gathered my vitals and heard about my issue for today.  I was then greeted by Dr Seward, who was very through and requested some further tests. He has a wonderful beside manner and i was quickly given my diagnosis and prescriptions were called into my pharmacy.  It was very nice to be treated in such a professional manner. I would highly recommend AFC if you need a quick visit to the Dr.

Urgent Care in Charlotte, NC

Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city and one of the fastest-growing major cities in the United States, home to roughly 900,000 residents and the financial capital of the Southeast. From the banking towers of Uptown and the trendy South End and NoDa neighborhoods to the diverse communities of east Charlotte and the sprawling suburbs of Ballantyne and Steele Creek, Charlotte's health care ecosystem is anchored by two massive competing health systems: Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) and Novant Health. Together, they operate dozens of hospitals, urgent care centers, and outpatient facilities throughout the Charlotte metro, giving residents among the most competitive and comprehensive urgent care access in the Southeast. Urgent care centers line the city's major commercial corridors — South Boulevard, Independence Boulevard, Rea Road, and North Tryon Street — serving one of the most diverse and rapidly evolving urban populations in the nation.

When should you use urgent care instead of the ER in Charlotte?

Charlotte has multiple major emergency facilities — Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (a Level I trauma center), Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, and Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital among them. Despite this robust hospital infrastructure, emergency departments across the Charlotte metro regularly face high volumes driven by the city's rapid population growth. According to the NC Department of Health and Human Services, emergency department utilization for avoidable conditions is above the national average in Mecklenburg County, with primary care access gaps in lower-income east Charlotte neighborhoods a significant driver.2 Use urgent care for flu, strep, sinus infections, UTIs, ear and eye infections, minor fractures, sprains, lacerations, skin infections, and rashes. Use the ER or call 911 for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, difficulty breathing, or any life-threatening emergency.

What do urgent care clinics in Charlotte treat?

Charlotte's enormous size and diversity make it one of the Southeast's highest-volume urgent care markets. Visit types range from banking-sector professionals with respiratory infections to pediatric sick visits in the city's rapidly growing family suburbs, occupational injuries from Charlotte's large construction workforce, and care navigation for uninsured and NC Medicaid-enrolled patients in east Charlotte with limited primary care access. Many Charlotte urgent care centers offer DOT physicals for commercial drivers on I-77, I-85, I-277, and I-485 and sports physicals for students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools — one of the largest school districts in the United States.

Seasonal health in Charlotte

Charlotte's Piedmont Carolinas location gives it a hot, humid summer climate (highs averaging 88–92 °F from June through September) and mild winters with occasional ice storms that cause significant injury spikes. Pollen season is intense in Charlotte — the city regularly ranks among the top 25 worst allergy cities nationally, driven by pine, oak, and grass pollen from February through June. According to the NC Department of Health and Human Services, asthma and allergic rhinitis rates in Mecklenburg County are above the state average and are exacerbated by the city's urban heat island effect and air quality challenges driven by traffic and development.2 Winter ice storms — while infrequent — cause significant motor vehicle and pedestrian injury surges when they occur. Respiratory virus season peaks November through February, driving the year's highest urgent care volumes.

Who lives in Charlotte?

According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for Charlotte city, the population is approximately 897,000 residents, making it the 15th-largest city in the United States.4 Charlotte is one of the most diverse large cities in the South: approximately 44% white non-Hispanic, 35% Black or African American, 15% Hispanic or Latino, and 6% Asian. The median household income is approximately $67,000, but significant income disparities exist between upscale south Charlotte suburbs and lower-income east and west Charlotte neighborhoods. The foreign-born population is approximately 16%, including large Latino, Vietnamese, Chinese, and South Asian communities. NC Medicaid enrollment in Mecklenburg County is substantial given the city's size and income disparities.

Does urgent care in Charlotte accept NC Medicaid and other insurance?

Most urgent care clinics in North Carolina accept NC Medicaid, administered by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, along with major commercial plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and TRICARE. According to NC DHHS, NC Medicaid covers more than 3 million North Carolinians, and the state has been expanding managed care coverage through NC Medicaid Managed Care plans including Carolina Complete Health and Healthy Blue.3

According to KFF State Health Facts, Mecklenburg County's NC Medicaid enrollment surged following North Carolina's 2023 Medicaid expansion, with hundreds of thousands of newly eligible adults in Charlotte gaining coverage.3 Atrium Health and Novant Health urgent care locations throughout Charlotte accept all major NC Medicaid Managed Care plans including Carolina Complete Health, Healthy Blue, and WellCare. Community health centers including Roof Above and Novant Health's federally qualified health center locations also serve uninsured Charlotte residents on a sliding-scale basis.
