The overall experience was pretty good. Dr seemed to listen to what all I had to say. The lady who came in 1st to get some info seemed a little......tense & not happy to be there. But dr listened and was very concerned and analyzing what I said. She gave me some meds & note & suggested I stay home for rest of the weekend to rest.

Urgent care
I had heard wonderful things about this AFC urgent care and it was definitely 💯 true. I went online to schedule and complete the required paperwork and then arrived at there office location.  I was greeted by Asha at the front desk with a friendly smile and was quickly taken to the back by staff,Shreya. She gathered my vitals and heard about my issue for today.  I was then greeted by Dr Seward, who was very through and requested some further tests. He has a wonderful beside manner and i was quickly given my diagnosis and prescriptions were called into my pharmacy.  It was very nice to be treated in such a professional manner. I would highly recommend AFC if you need a quick visit to the Dr.

Urgent Care in Gastonia, NC

Gastonia is the seat of Gaston County and the largest city in the Charlotte metropolitan area outside of Charlotte itself, home to roughly 80,000 residents. Situated 25 miles west of Uptown Charlotte on I-85, Gastonia is a former textile manufacturing hub that has diversified its economy while retaining a strong working-class identity. The city's health care landscape is anchored by CaroMont Regional Medical Center — Gaston County's primary hospital, now part of the Atrium Health system — along with urgent care centers and primary care clinics throughout the city's commercial corridors on Franklin Avenue, Union Road, and the Cox Road/New Hope Road intersection serving a largely working-class, diverse population.

When should you use urgent care instead of the ER in Gastonia?

CaroMont Regional Medical Center's emergency department is Gaston County's primary ER, with Atrium Health's Charlotte-area hospitals (Levine Children's, CMC Main) accessible 25–35 minutes east. For the vast majority of acute health needs, Gastonia's urgent care centers provide faster and significantly more affordable care. According to the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Gaston County's emergency department utilization for non-emergent conditions is above the state average, reflecting gaps in primary care access particularly in lower-income neighborhoods.2 Use urgent care for flu, strep, sinus infections, UTIs, ear and eye infections, minor fractures, sprains, lacerations, and rashes. Use the ER or call 911 for chest pain, stroke symptoms, difficulty breathing, severe trauma, or any life-threatening emergency.

What do urgent care clinics in Gastonia treat?

Gastonia urgent care centers serve a working-class community with a mix of employed adults, families, and elderly residents. Respiratory infections, pediatric sick visits, occupational injuries from manufacturing and construction, and management of acute flares of chronic conditions (hypertension, diabetes) are common visit types. Many Gastonia urgent care clinics offer DOT physicals for commercial drivers on I-85 and sports physicals for students in Gaston County Schools, including Forestview, Hunter Huss, and Ashbrook High Schools.

Seasonal health in Gastonia

Gastonia's Piedmont Carolina location — at an elevation of approximately 840 feet — gives it a humid subtropical climate. Summer (June–September) is hot and humid with highs averaging 88–92 °F, and heat exhaustion is a risk for outdoor workers and the elderly. The city is inland enough that direct hurricane impact is rare, but tropical systems regularly bring heavy rainfall and localized flooding along Crowder's Creek and South Fork Catawba River tributaries. According to the NC Department of Health and Human Services, flooding-related injury and water contamination risk increase during tropical weather events in the Piedmont region.2 Spring allergy season is significant in Gastonia given the Piedmont's mixed hardwood and pine forest pollen. Respiratory virus season peaks from November through February, driving Gastonia's highest urgent care visit volumes of the year.

Who lives in Gastonia?

According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for Gastonia city, the population is approximately 80,000 residents.4 Gastonia is approximately 49% white non-Hispanic, 36% Black or African American, and 12% Hispanic or Latino, reflecting the city's historically working-class manufacturing identity and recent Hispanic immigrant growth in the textile and service sectors. The median household income is approximately $46,000 — below both the Gaston County and North Carolina medians. NC Medicaid enrollment in Gastonia is proportionally high given the lower median income and significant share of residents in service-sector and manufacturing jobs without employer-sponsored insurance.

Does urgent care in Gastonia accept NC Medicaid and other insurance?

Most urgent care clinics in North Carolina accept NC Medicaid, administered by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, along with major commercial plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and TRICARE. According to NC DHHS, NC Medicaid covers more than 3 million North Carolinians, and the state has been expanding managed care coverage through NC Medicaid Managed Care plans including Carolina Complete Health and Healthy Blue.3

According to KFF State Health Facts, Gaston County's NC Medicaid enrollment rate is above the state average, reflecting Gastonia's lower-income demographics.3 Atrium Health (CaroMont) urgent care and primary care locations in Gastonia accept NC Medicaid Managed Care plans. North Carolina's 2023 Medicaid expansion has significantly increased enrollment eligibility in communities like Gastonia. Confirm your specific plan when booking.
