Unfamiliar with the options for Urgent Care, in the Cullman area, led me to visiting Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care, based on a trusted friend providing an excellent referral and personal recommendation, for myself, and my two kiddos, of whom have all experienced these unpleasant sickly germ infested symptoms, for going on 3 days…  Not only was the staff, beyond exceptional with personality, there was a flare for professionalism and informative conversation, from the very beginning, during a call to confirm insurances and scheduling nuances, but upon arrival, it was to be noted that, that this level of unmatched kindness and compassion and efficiency, was the standard of each and every interaction, of which we were so fortunate to be engaged with, throughout the entire process of our visit! Specifically, the clear and unambiguous nature of the initial vitals and assessments, with details and explanations for the plan of care, via labs and testing, following by, shared diagnostic information, with an appreciated dialogue and an inclusive approach of treatment, ensuring understanding and supportiveness!  I cannot recommend Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care, and the team of phenomenal support staff and medical providers, enough! Thank you, Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care team for the supportiveness of care and treatment, for myself kiddos and myself!

I don’t think it really matters to book an appointment. I booked for 10:45a and wasn’t seen until 12:30p Perhaps this was one of those unusual things like too short of staff. I was charged $50 twice because the first card I used they told me there was a glitch in their system so I used another card only to find out that the first card went through. I am still waiting on reimbursement from January 5. I spoke with Kiara and sent her the documentation showing that they received both payments. I have yet to hear from her as of January  21. This is unacceptable and poor customer service!

Really appreciate my speedy service at Urgent Care on today because that sciatica nerve had me up all nite in a chair trying to get some relief. I couldn't take it any longer so off to urgent care and everyone was so concerned. The nurse who excorted me in was very patience with me and Dr. Eugene Baldwin is just so kind, so pleasant & caring when he talk with you. I am so happy to see he was still there servicing the people with kindness. Thank you for having him on Staff, I hope he stays on this side of Town.

Lab testing
My husband was seen on a Friday morning. Appointment set up online. We arrived @ 8 am for an 815 appointment as directed. I could not get the app to take a picture of his ID. He is a 68 yo male w 36 hr hx max Temp 102.8 F orally, shaking chills, drenching sweats & “feels horrible”. C/O “raw” feeling throat initially but has coughed literally twice without any mucus production. No other physical complaints. Temp did drop to 98.6 oral with Tylenol & Advil. Temp 101.2 oral in clinic. Hx includes HTN, Dislipidemia, Arthritis. Never smoked.  We chose this clinic because it was Urgent Care which, per my search, meant they were equipped to handle more complicated issues than a simple walk in clinic. I mistakenly assumed this meant they could do labs onsite. They do not, except for rapid swabs. They did a rapid test for Covid & Flu via nasal swab. The provider read those results & reported to us that my husband had neither. She sent in a prescription for a gelcap for cough. They can draw labs but, blood is picked up late in afternoon by LabCorp. That means you do not get your lab results until the next day if at all. We did not get his at all. We received a notification via text that his results were available & we could view them by setting up an account. I did. We could NOT. We called for lab results Monday at the same time we asked for the results to be sent to his Primary Care Physician. He had continued to have the same symptoms over the weekend. Not worse but, not improved. Miserable weekend!!! Called his Dr Monday & was able to be worked in. We were told when we left there Friday after I encouraged the “Provider” to draw blood ( we discussed it & decided a CBC to get a baseline on White Blood cells was a good idea). We also discussed a Chest Xray. We agreed it was likely too soon as his lungs were clear on her exam, his O2 Sat was normal & he really had no respiratory symptoms. She also reported that his throat looked normal on exam. Our Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage insurance charges $90 for an Xray as an outpatient. My husband & I were concerned this was an unnecessary expense based on Physical Exam. This provider stated he had a “Viral Illness”. She explained that a viral illness can cause high temps even in an adult & make you “feel like you have been hit by a truck”. She encouraged us to return if he got worse. She advised us she was off the next day which was a Saturday but, her counterpart would call us with the results, “ if they had gotten them”. She explained that the clinic closes at 4 pm on Saturdays & she did not know when LabCorp would actually process the blood tests and report them out to the clinic. But, if they got them someone would call us with the results. According to the text I received from LabCorp , the clinic received the results at the same time we were notified they were available to view which was on Saturday. Since I was not able to view them or retrieve a copy of his office note on the site, I must assume the clinic never received them. We did ask the person who answered the phone if we could get a verbal report of his labs results. She asked us to hold. It sounded like the same person to me who came back on the line shortly & said, “there is nothing concerning”. I verified, “ his blood work looks OK”? She verified, there is nothing to worry about”. I thanked her & told her we were seeing his Family Physician at 2:30pm so please send the labs to her.  When we saw our Family Physician, she had received a copy of my husband’s lab results. In her interview & examination of my husband. She reported that my husband had an elevated white blood cell count on the blood that was drawn 3 days prior. She stated if the provider who saw him on Friday had seen these lab results with an elevated WBC and Neutrophil count, she would have seen that these point to a BACTERIAL Infection NOT a Viral Illness. Our physician gave him an antibiotic injection in the office and sent in a prescription for an oral antibiotic and a cough syrup. By the following morning, Tuesday, he was feeling significantly improved. In summary, No, I DO NOT recommend this clinic and I would NOT return. I am not sure about the provider. It is not her fault the clinic does not have an actual lab. So she had an incomplete assessment which actually is her responsibility. However, I am the one who questioned not doing labs & Xray & we discussed it. Otherwise she was ready to discharge us with only the negative nasal swabs for Covid & Flu. I feel there is fractionation in care here. If that provider had reported off to her counterpart on duty the next day & someone had been looking for my husband’s labs, they could have called us and told us that his labs indicated a need for an antibiotic vs “watchful waiting” ( my term). In addition, in social chatting with staff in their “in & out” trips doing different things; I learned that they are staffed by only the 3 people we had seen that day but, “hopefully we will make it & be busy enough to get a lab”. Personally, I have NEVER had to question if a facility or a provider had all they needed to provide adequate care. In the future if I am going somewhere unknown, I will ask.

I have been looking for a PCP. Although there is a waiting list for that, I was seen and taken care of. I do not go to the doctor. I hate being sick. While I will not look forward to going to the doctor. I will not dread this at all.

I was able to choose a Labcorp location and schedule an appointment. Check in was easy, and I only needed to provide my name and DOB. They were able to locate my order in their system. They were already aware that my labs were paid for prior to the appointment. I had my labs done on a Wednesday, and I received my results by Saturday. Great experience.

Hanceville CMP Tests

A CMP test measures the levels of 14 compounds in your blood to help you and your doctor learn more about your body's metabolism and chemical balance. A CMP test includes albumin, ALP, ALT, AST, total bilirubin, and total protein, as well as the eight tests that make up a basic metabolic panel (BUN, glucose, calcium, CO2, creatine, chloride, potassium, and sodium). CMP testing may be part of a routine physical examination or may be requested by your doctor to diagnose diabetes, liver disease, or renal disease.

The tests performed as part of a CMP can assess the following body functions and processes:

  • Metabolism
  • Blood sugar levels
  • Kidney function
  • Lung function
  • Blood acid and base balance
  • Protein levels
  • Electrolyte levels
  • Fluid levels
  • Organ function

A CMP test requires very little preparation. Fasting for eight to twelve hours prior to the surgery is required. Your doctor will also want you to provide a list of all over-the-counter, prescription, and nutritional supplements you're taking, as some of them may affect the findings of your tests. Dehydration, pregnancy, and eating or exercising right before the test all have the potential to skew the results.

The CMP test usually takes less than five minutes after a medical specialist collects a sample of your blood, which is then deposited in one or more vials. The vials are shipped to the lab for evaluation and analysis, with the results being emailed to the customer.

The risks of a CMP test are extremely low. Minor bruising and discomfort may develop at the injection site, although this usually subsides within a day or two. Some people may feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint after a CMP test, which is normal.

The results of a CMP test are usually available within 24 hours, though depending on when your doctor calls you, you may have to wait longer. If any irregularities are discovered, your doctor may order more testing to rule out certain conditions or diagnose you with a health problem based on the aberrant results. Your doctor may also invite you to an appointment to discuss your treatment options.

CMP Test Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a CMP blood test?

A CMP blood test looks for 14 different compounds in your blood to help you and your doctor figure out if you have one or more major health issues. This test can assess your liver and kidney function as well as give information about your protein, calcium, and blood sugar levels. CMP tests are typically performed as part of a standard medical examination, but they can also be used to diagnose liver and kidney disease.

  • What is included in a comprehensive metabolic panel?

A CMP entails looking at 14 different compounds. The aspects of the test that are reviewed are as follows:

    • Albumin (a liver protein)
    • Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
    • Alanine aminotransferase (ALT)
    • Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
    • Blood glucose
    • Blood urea nitrogen (BUN)
    • Calcium
    • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
    • Chloride
    • Creatinine
    • Potassium
    • Sodium
    • Total bilirubin (a waste product made by the liver)
    • Total protein
  • How much do CMP tests cost in Hanceville?

The cost of a CMP test is determined by a variety of factors, including provider costs, geographic location, and whether your health insurance covers it. The easiest way to find out how much a CMP test costs is to call the CMP provider directly or check with your health insurance provider to see if the test is covered.

  • Does insurance cover CMP testing in Hanceville?

Yes, many health insurance plans will cover some or all of the cost of a CMP test, especially if your doctor determines that it is medically necessary given your present health situation. Some CMP test providers may contact your insurance provider on your behalf to confirm coverage, but you should also check with your health provider before selecting a CMP provider.

  • Where should I get a comprehensive metabolic panel in Hanceville?

Many doctors will recommend you to the lab or hospital where they regularly work when referring you for a CMP. A CMP test, on the other hand, can be obtained from any healthcare practitioner who offers this service, including urgent care clinics, hospitals, and clinical laboratories. You may also use Solv to locate the best CMP testing companies in your area.

  • How long does it take to get CMP blood test results in Hanceville?

It can take anything from a few hours to a day for your CMP blood test results to arrive. Some CMP providers will contact you immediately when the results are ready and allow you to review them online, while others will send the data to your doctor. Inquire with the CMP provider about when your test results will be available.

  • What is the normal range for a comprehensive metabolic panel?

The "typical" range for data in a CMP will vary significantly since different CMP providers may utilize different metrics. Total protein levels should be between 6.0 and 8.3 g/dL, with albumin levels between 3.4 and 5.4 g/dL. Inquire with the CMP provider about the specific ranges for each value in the test that they deem typical.

  • Do I need to see a doctor before getting a CMP test in Hanceville?

For this test, some CMP testing firms require a physician's reference, while others do not. Your doctor may prescribe a CMP test as part of a routine physical exam or if liver or renal illness is suspected. Check with the CMP provider to determine if you need a doctor's reference before making an appointment or showing up for the CMP test.

  • How can I book a CMP test through Solv?

Solv is a quick and easy way to find high-quality CMP test providers in your area without having to do a lot of searching online. In the provider search field on our website, type "Comprehensive Metabolic Panel" or "CMP Test" and your location. Solv will then offer you a selection of the best CMP testing companies in your area, together with their contact information, so you can make an appointment right away.

  • Can I do at home CMP testing?

Some companies sell CMP test kits online, but you may need to take them to a lab or a doctor's office to have them administered. In rare situations, a doctor may come to your home to collect a blood sample for the CMP test before sending it to the lab. Inquire with your doctor about whether at-home CMP testing is possible or feasible for you, based on your current health situation.
