About Gonorrhea Testing

Who should get tested for gonorrhea?

According to the CDC, anyone who is sexually active can get gonorrhea, but it is especially common among young people aged 15-24 years. People with multiple sexual partners, or those who don't use a condom during sex, are at a higher risk. If you fall into these categories or have been sexually active with someone who has been diagnosed with gonorrhea, it is recommended to get tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for gonorrhea is crucial, as it's a common infection that can cause serious health problems if left untreated, including infertility in both men and women. It can also increase your risk of getting or giving HIV. The only way to know if you have gonorrhea is to get tested, as many people with the infection don't have any symptoms. Early detection and treatment can prevent these health problems.

Gonorrhea testing options in Milton, FL:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

ProHealth in Pensacola, FL, and Quality Urgent Care and Wellness, also in Pensacola, are highly rated clinics with short wait times. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at each through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for gonorrhea testing. They can provide testing and treatment, along with advice and support for prevention.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers are an excellent resource for those who may not have insurance or who are seeking confidential testing.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for gonorrhea are also available. They offer privacy and convenience, as you can take the test at your own time and send it back to the lab for results.

Prevalence of gonorrhea in Milton

Milton, located in Escambia County, has seen a rise in gonorrhea cases in recent years, similar to national trends. This increase could be due to a variety of factors, including increased testing and changes in sexual behavior. It's important to note that gonorrhea rates can vary from one city or county to another, and even within different communities in the same city.

Risk factors related to gonorrhea in Milton

Risk factors for gonorrhea in Milton include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and previous or co-existing sexually transmitted infections. Young people, particularly those aged 15-24, are at a higher risk, as are men who have sex with men.

Other STDs in Milton

In addition to gonorrhea, other STDs such as chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Milton. Like gonorrhea, these infections can be asymptomatic, making regular testing crucial. The same testing locations mentioned above can also test for these other STDs.
