Highly Rated

Mercy Urgent Care, Weaverville - 61 Weaver Blvd, Weaverville
Was able to schedule online and get in same day but the wait was not satisfactory due to having only one provider there. Everything else was great and staff that attended to my needs was exceptional. The provider was excellent and knowledgeable, but her being only one there was the pits for everyone.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone who has been exposed to blood or body fluids of an infected person should consider getting tested for hepatitis. This includes individuals who have had unprotected sex, shared needles, or have been in close contact with a person who has hepatitis. Additionally, those who have traveled to areas with high rates of hepatitis, have a family history of liver disease, or have a chronic liver disease should also consider getting tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial for early detection and treatment. According to the CDC, many people with hepatitis do not have symptoms until the disease has caused significant liver damage. Early detection can lead to timely treatment, which can prevent further liver damage and reduce the risk of complications such as cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure.

This trend is consistent with other nearby counties such as Madison County, Raleigh County, Fayette County, Forsyth County, and Wyoming County.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Asheville

The increase in hepatitis cases in Asheville can be attributed to several risk factors. These include unprotected sex, sharing of needles among drug users, and close contact with a person who has hepatitis. Additionally, travel to areas with high rates of hepatitis and a family history of liver disease also increase the risk of contracting hepatitis.

Other STDs in Asheville

Apart from hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also prevalent in Asheville. The rates of these STDs are also higher than the national average, indicating a need for increased awareness and testing in the area.
