Everything was good except for one thing... She did the quick results in front of me and I was very surprised and unprepared for one of the results to be a non-negative. It turned out to be because of a prescription that I'm on. It was very unsettling. They should ask about prescriptions and/or provide a list of medications that will affect the results. We have enough anxiety in society already.

Overview of STD Testing in Happy Valley

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This includes individuals who are in monogamous relationships, as STDs can remain dormant and undetected for years. Particularly, those who have multiple sexual partners, engage in unprotected sex, or use intravenous drugs are at a higher risk and should get tested regularly. According to the CDC, sexually active women under 25, or older women with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners, should get tested annually for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Men who have sex with men should also get tested more frequently.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for your health and the health of your partners. Many STDs do not show symptoms immediately but can lead to serious health complications over time, including infertility and increased risk of certain types of cancer. Early detection through testing can lead to quicker treatment and prevent the spread of the disease. According to the CDC, STD testing is an essential part of preventative healthcare, similar to regular check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, or cancer screenings.
