The overall experience was pretty good. Dr seemed to listen to what all I had to say. The lady who came in 1st to get some info seemed a little......tense & not happy to be there. But dr listened and was very concerned and analyzing what I said. She gave me some meds & note & suggested I stay home for rest of the weekend to rest.

This is the second time in three days that I have been to this facility. A couple of days ago I had accidentally used Hibiclens to soak my contacts in and really burned my eyes. Ryan saw me immediately and flushed my eyes and gave me some drops to ease the pain. Then he made an appointment for me with an ophthalmologist and I was seen and treated within two hours. On top of all that he took the time after hours to call my phone to check in on me. Extraordinary care and concern! My wife made an appointment for herself this morning through Soly. We saw Ryan again. There was no waiting and again received excellent care. Many thanks to the whole staff and team.

Alandria and Gracie are always friendly and they took great care of me, they always get the job done, very proficient in everything they do. I recommend everyone to come here but then again I don’t want everyone to be here because I want to gate-keep you guys so bad I should be the only patient, So selfish of me, I love Quick Doc, you guys are stuck with me for life. The whole staff is also friendly, To sum it all up I recommend this place, Thank you so much.

Urgent Care in Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem is anchored by Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist — Forsyth County's largest employer with more than 19,220 staff and one of the largest academic medical centers in the Southeast. The system's downtown Innovation Quarter is a national biotech research hub now midway through a $25 million Phase II infrastructure build, and Wake Forest School of Medicine pulls referrals from across the Triad and rural northwestern North Carolina. Walk-in urgent care fits into that ecosystem as the everyday front door for families and college students, freeing academic specialty capacity for higher-acuity referrals.

What services do urgent care clinics in Winston-Salem offer?

Walk-in clinics in Winston-Salem treat acute illness, injury, occupational health, and routine preventive care. Common services include rapid strep, flu, COVID-19, and RSV testing, on-site x-ray, laceration and suture care, splinting, IV hydration, asthma and allergy management, sports and DOT physicals, STI testing, and pediatric care. Major providers include Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist urgent care (multiple Winston-Salem locations including 1920 W 1st St), Novant Health-GoHealth Urgent Care, FastMed Urgent Care, and AFC Urgent Care. Wake Forest students often use campus-affiliated clinics, while families across Forsyth County use academic and chain options interchangeably. Browse options at walk-in urgent care in Winston-Salem, NC.

Does urgent care in Winston-Salem accept Medicaid?

Yes. Most Winston-Salem urgent care clinics accept North Carolina Medicaid managed care plans, commercial plans (BCBS NC, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare), Medicare, TRICARE, and self-pay. North Carolina became the 40th expansion state on December 1, 2023, and roughly 600,000 newly eligible residents have enrolled statewide. Forsyth County enrollment in expansion Medicaid surpassed 14,964 in early-2024 reporting and continues to climb, with another estimated 17,000 Forsyth residents eligible but unenrolled.1 NC Medicaid managed care plans serving Winston-Salem include Healthy Blue, AmeriHealth Caritas, Carolina Complete Health, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and WellCare. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist explicitly accepts NC Medicaid through its urgent care, primary care, and hospital network.2

How long are urgent care wait times in Winston-Salem?

Walk-in wait times in Winston-Salem typically run 15 to 45 minutes, with online check-in cutting that to 10 minutes or less. Wait times tend to spike on weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons as families catch up on pediatric and acute illness care before the week begins. The Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist urgent care on 1st Street and Novant Health-GoHealth locations across the city offer Solv online scheduling.

When should you choose urgent care instead of the ER in Winston-Salem?

Choose urgent care for non-life-threatening illness and injury — fevers, ear infections, UTIs, sprains, fractures, simple lacerations, mild asthma flares, and minor pediatric concerns. Use the ER at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics, Brenner Children's Hospital) or Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe head injury, uncontrolled bleeding, or breathing emergencies. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is the regional referral hub for northwestern NC, so ED capacity is in steady demand from outside Forsyth County. Urgent care typically resolves in under an hour at a fraction of the ED cost.

What city-specific health concerns drive urgent care visits in Winston-Salem?

Winston-Salem sees a distinct mix of academic-medical-driven referral volume, college-aged respiratory and STI care, biotech-corridor occupational health, and Piedmont seasonal allergy presentations. The Innovation Quarter — anchored by Wake Forest School of Medicine and dozens of biotech startups — drives a steady stream of occupational health visits for laboratory and research workers. Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University collectively enroll roughly 15,000 students whose respiratory and STI care often runs through campus health and local urgent care. The Piedmont climate produces a long spring allergy season — oak, ragweed, and grass pollen drive sinusitis, conjunctivitis, and asthma flares from March through October.

Are urgent care clinics in Winston-Salem open on weekends?

Yes. Most Winston-Salem urgent care clinics run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist urgent care, Novant Health-GoHealth, FastMed, and AFC all offer weekend hours. For overnight or true emergencies, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center EDs operate 24/7.
