Urgent care in Mabank, TX

Mabank sits on Cedar Creek Lake at the corner of Henderson and Kaufman counties, with urgent care anchored by clinics in Gun Barrel City and Mabank along SH-198 and SH-274. Book a walk-in slot near you or in urgent care in Dallas in under a minute.

What services do urgent care clinics in Mabank offer?

Mabank and Cedar Creek Lake urgent care clinics handle the typical acute care load — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations, minor injuries — along with DOT physicals and on-site labs and X-ray. UT Health East Texas operates UT Health Athens nearby and affiliated urgent care, while broader specialty care routes into the Dallas metro through Medical City Healthcare or Baylor Scott & White.2

Does urgent care in Mabank accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most Mabank-area urgent care clinics accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services.1 Texas has not expanded Medicaid, leaving working-age adults above STAR thresholds without coverage — KFF tracks Texas as the highest uninsured-rate state in the U.S.3 In smaller lake-area markets, in-network options are more limited; call ahead to confirm STAR plan acceptance.

How does Mabank urgent care relate to Dallas?

Mabank has roughly 3,000 residents in town, with the broader Cedar Creek Lake population swelling on weekends and during summer.4 It sits about 60 miles southeast of downtown Dallas along SH-175, with a mix of permanent residents, retirees, and lake-house weekenders. Specialty and higher-acuity healthcare typically routes into urgent care in Dallas or Tyler.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • Are there urgent care clinics in Mabank?

Yes. Mabank, TX has walk-in urgent care available either directly in town or within a short drive in adjacent communities. Most clinics offer same-day visits for common illnesses and minor injuries, with on-site labs and X-ray where needed. Use Solv to see real-time availability and book a slot before you walk in.
  • Does urgent care in Mabank accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most urgent care clinics serving the Mabank area accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services. STAR is delivered through several managed care organizations (Amerigroup, Molina, Superior, United, etc.), so confirm with the specific clinic which MCOs they contract with before booking. Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so working-age adults outside the standard STAR eligibility criteria typically do not qualify.
  • What insurance do urgent care centers in Mabank accept?

Most Mabank-area urgent care clinics accept commercial insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana), Medicare, and TRICARE for active-duty military and veterans. Many also accept STAR (Texas Medicaid). Cash-pay and self-pay options are widely available — average urgent care visit costs run $100-$250 depending on services. Confirm your specific plan and copay with the clinic before booking.
  • Should I go to urgent care or the ER in Mabank?

Urgent care handles non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, ear infections, mild asthma flares — usually for a fraction of an ER bill and with shorter waits. Go to the ER (or call 911) for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, head injury with confusion, or any condition that feels life-threatening. The nearest hospital ER for Mabank residents is UT Health Athens.
  • Are urgent care clinics in Mabank busier on summer weekends?

Yes. Cedar Creek Lake draws a significant weekend population from Dallas, and Mabank/Gun Barrel City urgent care clinics typically see higher volumes Friday afternoon through Sunday during peak summer for sunburns, dehydration, lacerations from boating accidents, and pediatric earaches from swimming. Booking online lets you reserve a slot before driving in.
