Melanie went out of her way to accommodate my husband and me when we came in to get Covid tests. Due to our unforeseen scheduling error, we didn't have an appointment at that time, but she said we could wait in case she could fit us in between patients, even though they were fully booked. She was able to complete our tests quickly and courteously. We were extremely pleased with the care we received. Thanks, Melanie!

Wait time was good, got in at 1:40pm for my 1:30pm appointment. Staff was friendly and explained things to me. I did kind of get the impression that they were tired of me because I was trying to ask clarifying questions to make sure that later on I will not be thinking about the questions I was afraid to ask :P. It’s very easy for me to just accept what I’m told, and not ask anything, but I’m trying to learn to advocate for myself because it seems like that’s what is needed in healthcare. But I could tell they were definitely getting tired of me asking my dumb questions and just repeating answers they already gave because I was obviously didn’t hear it the first time. I probably need to work on my communication skills because I don’t feel like either of us felt like we were getting through to the other person. It felt like we both felt like we knew what the other person was saying and that they just weren’t willing to hear it.

Dr Fitzpatrick was thoughtful and attentive and did what tests she could. Her diagnosis of pneumonia was not confirmed by the staff at CPMC, however. It seems I have some sort of infection, maybe more than one—perhaps bronchitis for one. The high pulse rate was due to dehydration. BTW the X-ray copy I took to the hospital was incompatible with its system. Nonetheless I appreciate the care I was given at Carbon.

Belmont HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIVs?

Anyone who has been sexually active, especially with multiple partners, or has shared needles for drug use should consider getting tested for HIV. It is particularly important for those who have not been consistently using condoms, or have been diagnosed with, or treated for, another sexually transmitted disease, hepatitis, or tuberculosis. Pregnant women should also get tested for HIV to prevent mother-to-child transmission during birth or breastfeeding.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for both your health and the health of others. Early detection of HIV allows for prompt treatment, which can slow the progression of the disease and significantly improve quality of life. Additionally, knowing your status helps prevent the spread of the virus to others. According to the CDC, around 14% of people with HIV in the United States are unaware of their infection and may unknowingly transmit the virus.

HIV testing options in Belmont, CA:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are convenient options for HIV testing in Belmont. Carbon Health Urgent & Primary Care in nearby San Mateo offers HIV testing services with a short wait time and friendly staff. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another reliable source for HIV testing. They can provide confidential testing and counseling, and if necessary, refer you to appropriate care.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Belmont residents can also access free STD testing at community health centers. These centers often provide testing on a sliding fee scale based on income.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are also available for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be purchased online or at a local pharmacy and allow you to collect a sample at home that you send to a lab for testing.

Prevalence of HIVs in Belmont

Belmont is located in San Mateo County, which has a lower HIV prevalence rate compared to the national average. However, it's important to note that the number of HIV diagnoses in the county has remained relatively stable over the years, indicating ongoing transmission.

Risk factors related to HIVs in Belmont

Risk factors for HIV in Belmont are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and sharing needles for drug use. The presence of other sexually transmitted diseases can also increase the risk of HIV transmission.

Other STDs in Belmont

In addition to HIV, other common STDs in Belmont include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The rates of these STDs are also lower than the national average, but they still represent a significant public health concern. Regular testing for all STDs is recommended for sexually active individuals.

Remember, you can book same-day and next-day STD testing appointments at over 340 locations in and around Belmont through Solv’s website and mobile app.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Belmont?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Belmont clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Belmont?

Many Belmont health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
