Atlanta Urgent Care, Druid Hills - 2738 Clairmont Rd
Our visit with the physician and nursing staff was great. We had an 11:20 appt and waited for about an hour to be seen. Exam was thorough and doctor was friendly and attentive. We were told 2 prescriptions were being prescribed: an antibiotic and a steroid. Upon picking up the prescriptions, only 1 was available. Pharmacy indicated only 1 prescription was provided to them. I then called Atlanta Urgent Care to inquire about the 2nd order and to request phone submission of the missing medication. I waited on hold for 20 minutes to speak with someone, communicated what happened to the receptionist and was then put on hold for an additional 20 minutes while she was looking into the issue. After 45 minutes, I gave up and ended the call.

Scheduling was so easy! I woke up and called them to be sure. The receptionist answered all of my questions and made making an appointment amazingly easy! Check in was super quick. I filled out the forms online which was an amazing option. The staff and care was absolutely 100/10. This was a new option for me because I was getting a second opinion and they made me feel unbelievably comfortable!

My 3yo woke up with an earache, so I made a 9am urgent care appointment at Medici. We waited less than five minutes to be seen after arriving, and the provider who handled our appointment, Sarah, was amazing! She was very thoughtful, thorough, and patient, and listened to my kiddo’s feedback and needs. I have always had a great experience at Medici personally, but for my little one to receive such prompt, high quality care was next level.

I was so pleased with my visit and building a rapport with the staff. I would like her to be my PCP even! They were patient thorough and I’m so pleased and at ease of the relief I finally got. The resources and laughter shared,I’m thankful that I encountered this clinic. The steroid prescribed I feel like a breakthrough and that it will pass. I will do my due diligence of dr’s orders. They treated me so good!

I was feeling sick Sunday night & I was able to schedule an 8:30am appt for Monday morning. I came in 20 mins early. Thankfully I pre-registered online so I had minimum things to complete when I came in. The ladies at the front desk were so nice & welcoming. The doctor & nurse that assisted/ diagnosed me were so kind and caring. They answered all my questions with a smile. I was able to get in & out within 30 mins. Overall my visit went really well. I would definitely visit this clinic again.

Atlanta HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

According to the CDC, everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. However, those with specific risk factors should get tested more often. These risk factors include having unprotected sex, having multiple partners, being a man who has sex with men, having a sexually transmitted infection, using intravenous drugs, or being pregnant.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it allows those who are HIV positive to start treatment as soon as possible, which can significantly improve their health, prolong their life, and lower their chances of transmitting the virus to others. Secondly, it helps those who are HIV negative to make informed decisions about prevention methods, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Lastly, it contributes to public health efforts to reduce new HIV infections.

HIV testing options in Atlanta, GA

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are convenient options for HIV testing in Atlanta. For instance, Atlanta Urgent Care, located at 2140 Peachtree Rd NW, offers HIV testing services. With a 4.7 rating and 480 reviews, it is highly rated by the local community. These clinics often offer same-day and next-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for HIV testing. They can offer regular testing as part of routine health care and can provide ongoing care if the result is positive. AllCare Primary & Immediate Care, located at 764 Memorial Dr SE in Atlanta, is one such provider.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Free STD testing is available at various community health centers in Atlanta. These centers often offer comprehensive sexual health services, including HIV testing, counseling, and treatment.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for HIV are also available. These kits allow individuals to collect a sample, usually a blood spot or oral swab, at home and then send it to a laboratory for testing.

Prevalence of HIV in Atlanta

Atlanta, located in Fulton County, has a high prevalence of HIV compared to other cities and counties. According to the CDC, the rate of new HIV diagnoses in Fulton County is significantly higher than the national average. This high prevalence could be due to various factors, including a high rate of sexually active individuals, a high rate of other sexually transmitted infections, and socioeconomic factors such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare.

Risk factors related to HIV in Atlanta

Risk factors related to HIV in Atlanta include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, intravenous drug use, and being a man who has sex with men. Additionally, socioeconomic factors such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and stigma around HIV testing can also contribute to the high prevalence of HIV.

Other STDs in Atlanta

In addition to HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Atlanta. The rates of these STDs are also higher than the national average, indicating a need for comprehensive sexual health services, including testing and treatment.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Atlanta?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Atlanta clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Atlanta?

Many Atlanta health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
