I booked an appointment early in the morning online and showed up to our apt time. Somehow I drove to the location but the staff were so friendly and worked us in. We only had to wait 30 before they called us back. The staff were all so friendly and the provider we saw was so nice and she took time to explain everything to us. I would definitely go back there if we can’t get into our PCP.

I was so shaken by the fever of my infant and didn’t know where to turn. I was able to book an appointment with Urgent care and so glad I did. I absolutely loved the nurses and nurse practitioner that was on staff. From the receptionist and her pleasant manner made me feel easier being at the urgent care. You always hear about these places “being unprofessional” but this particular one will be the one I always go to for an emergency if the time frame and importance of the matter can’t be resolved at my children’s PCP.  If the staff can read this message. From the bottom of my heart I truly appreciate everything you guys did for me yesterday during the challenging time when dealing with my infant. I left knowing so much more than what I came in. Thank you for sharing your gift with my family and know you will be a blessing to others. Kudos to you!!

I had injured my tailbone and was having lots of pain. I thought an X-ray might reveal if there was any major damage. The staff from the front desk to the radiologist to the physician were absolutely amazing and so helpful. Took their time with me to answer my questions. There was no fracture thankfully. The physician showed me a stretch I could do to alleviate pain when getting out of a chair. It works! He also made several modifications for my office to keep me standing more. We’ve implemented them all and I’m on my way to pain free healing! Thank you so much!

The wait takes a little while but honestly that’s to be expected when you’re at any hospital or clinic. Everyone is very kind and accommodating. Always a very clean clinic. Only thing I would recommend is to turn the tv down in the lobby. When you’re ill and or having a headache all day the last thing you want to hear is the tv blaring. Thanks bunches ladies

San Antonio HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for HIV, especially those who have multiple sexual partners, engage in unprotected sex, or share needles for drug use. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested to prevent mother-to-child transmission of the virus. According to the CDC, everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, early detection can lead to better health outcomes. If you test positive, you can start treatment sooner, which can significantly improve your quality of life and extend your lifespan. Secondly, knowing your status can help prevent the spread of the virus to others. If you're aware you have HIV, you can take steps to protect your sexual partners and, if you're pregnant, your unborn child.

HIV testing options in San Antonio, TX:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are an excellent option for HIV testing in San Antonio. These facilities often offer same-day appointments, which you can easily book through Solv's website and mobile app. One such highly-rated location is Alamo City Urgent Care, located at 8223 Marbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78227.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another reliable source for HIV testing. They can provide a comprehensive health check-up and discuss any concerns you may have. If you don't have a primary care provider, Solv can help you find one in the San Antonio area.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who are underinsured, free STD testing and community health centers can provide affordable HIV testing. These centers are often funded by the government or non-profit organizations and aim to make healthcare accessible to all.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another convenient option for HIV testing. These kits can be ordered online and used in the privacy of your own home. They offer quick and confidential results.

Prevalence of HIV in San Antonio

San Antonio, located in Bexar County, has seen a steady increase in HIV cases over the years. The city's HIV prevalence rate is higher than the national average and also higher than nearby counties such as McCulloch County and Tom Green County. This could be attributed to various factors, including a lack of awareness about HIV and limited access to testing and treatment facilities.

Risk factors related to HIV in San Antonio

Several risk factors contribute to the high prevalence of HIV in San Antonio. These include unprotected sex, intravenous drug use, and a high incidence of other sexually transmitted infections. Socioeconomic factors, such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare, also play a significant role.

Other STDs in San Antonio

Besides HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in San Antonio. The rates of these STDs are also higher than the national average. This underscores the importance of regular STD testing for sexually active individuals in the city.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in San Antonio?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some San Antonio clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in San Antonio?

Many San Antonio health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
