Unfamiliar with the options for Urgent Care, in the Cullman area, led me to visiting Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care, based on a trusted friend providing an excellent referral and personal recommendation, for myself, and my two kiddos, of whom have all experienced these unpleasant sickly germ infested symptoms, for going on 3 days…  Not only was the staff, beyond exceptional with personality, there was a flare for professionalism and informative conversation, from the very beginning, during a call to confirm insurances and scheduling nuances, but upon arrival, it was to be noted that, that this level of unmatched kindness and compassion and efficiency, was the standard of each and every interaction, of which we were so fortunate to be engaged with, throughout the entire process of our visit! Specifically, the clear and unambiguous nature of the initial vitals and assessments, with details and explanations for the plan of care, via labs and testing, following by, shared diagnostic information, with an appreciated dialogue and an inclusive approach of treatment, ensuring understanding and supportiveness!  I cannot recommend Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care, and the team of phenomenal support staff and medical providers, enough! Thank you, Huntsville Hospital Urgent Care team for the supportiveness of care and treatment, for myself kiddos and myself!

My husband was seen on a Friday morning. Appointment set up online. We arrived @ 8 am for an 815 appointment as directed. I could not get the app to take a picture of his ID. He is a 68 yo male w 36 hr hx max Temp 102.8 F orally, shaking chills, drenching sweats & “feels horrible”. C/O “raw” feeling throat initially but has coughed literally twice without any mucus production. No other physical complaints. Temp did drop to 98.6 oral with Tylenol & Advil. Temp 101.2 oral in clinic. Hx includes HTN, Dislipidemia, Arthritis. Never smoked.  We chose this clinic because it was Urgent Care which, per my search, meant they were equipped to handle more complicated issues than a simple walk in clinic. I mistakenly assumed this meant they could do labs onsite. They do not, except for rapid swabs. They did a rapid test for Covid & Flu via nasal swab. The provider read those results & reported to us that my husband had neither. She sent in a prescription for a gelcap for cough. They can draw labs but, blood is picked up late in afternoon by LabCorp. That means you do not get your lab results until the next day if at all. We did not get his at all. We received a notification via text that his results were available & we could view them by setting up an account. I did. We could NOT. We called for lab results Monday at the same time we asked for the results to be sent to his Primary Care Physician. He had continued to have the same symptoms over the weekend. Not worse but, not improved. Miserable weekend!!! Called his Dr Monday & was able to be worked in. We were told when we left there Friday after I encouraged the “Provider” to draw blood ( we discussed it & decided a CBC to get a baseline on White Blood cells was a good idea). We also discussed a Chest Xray. We agreed it was likely too soon as his lungs were clear on her exam, his O2 Sat was normal & he really had no respiratory symptoms. She also reported that his throat looked normal on exam. Our Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage insurance charges $90 for an Xray as an outpatient. My husband & I were concerned this was an unnecessary expense based on Physical Exam. This provider stated he had a “Viral Illness”. She explained that a viral illness can cause high temps even in an adult & make you “feel like you have been hit by a truck”. She encouraged us to return if he got worse. She advised us she was off the next day which was a Saturday but, her counterpart would call us with the results, “ if they had gotten them”. She explained that the clinic closes at 4 pm on Saturdays & she did not know when LabCorp would actually process the blood tests and report them out to the clinic. But, if they got them someone would call us with the results. According to the text I received from LabCorp , the clinic received the results at the same time we were notified they were available to view which was on Saturday. Since I was not able to view them or retrieve a copy of his office note on the site, I must assume the clinic never received them. We did ask the person who answered the phone if we could get a verbal report of his labs results. She asked us to hold. It sounded like the same person to me who came back on the line shortly & said, “there is nothing concerning”. I verified, “ his blood work looks OK”? She verified, there is nothing to worry about”. I thanked her & told her we were seeing his Family Physician at 2:30pm so please send the labs to her.  When we saw our Family Physician, she had received a copy of my husband’s lab results. In her interview & examination of my husband. She reported that my husband had an elevated white blood cell count on the blood that was drawn 3 days prior. She stated if the provider who saw him on Friday had seen these lab results with an elevated WBC and Neutrophil count, she would have seen that these point to a BACTERIAL Infection NOT a Viral Illness. Our physician gave him an antibiotic injection in the office and sent in a prescription for an oral antibiotic and a cough syrup. By the following morning, Tuesday, he was feeling significantly improved. In summary, No, I DO NOT recommend this clinic and I would NOT return. I am not sure about the provider. It is not her fault the clinic does not have an actual lab. So she had an incomplete assessment which actually is her responsibility. However, I am the one who questioned not doing labs & Xray & we discussed it. Otherwise she was ready to discharge us with only the negative nasal swabs for Covid & Flu. I feel there is fractionation in care here. If that provider had reported off to her counterpart on duty the next day & someone had been looking for my husband’s labs, they could have called us and told us that his labs indicated a need for an antibiotic vs “watchful waiting” ( my term). In addition, in social chatting with staff in their “in & out” trips doing different things; I learned that they are staffed by only the 3 people we had seen that day but, “hopefully we will make it & be busy enough to get a lab”. Personally, I have NEVER had to question if a facility or a provider had all they needed to provide adequate care. In the future if I am going somewhere unknown, I will ask.

I have been looking for a PCP. Although there is a waiting list for that, I was seen and taken care of. I do not go to the doctor. I hate being sick. While I will not look forward to going to the doctor. I will not dread this at all.

Book a urinalysis online

Urinary Tract Infection
The Urinalysis UTI Test checks for various substances in your urine and to look for evidence of a urinary tract infection.

Addison Urine Tests

A urinalysis is a test that examines the urine for substances that could indicate an illness, sickness, or infection. Urinating into a sterile cup is required for the majority of urine tests, which are then sent to a lab for further investigation. At-home urine tests may be available depending on the condition for which you are being tested.

A urine test can be used as part of a routine medical exam to diagnose or rule out conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, and urinary tract infections. It can also be used to identify blood or kidney stones, as well as confirm pregnancy.

A urinalysis assesses your urine's color, odor, appearance, and acidity level, among other things. Your urine may also be checked for germs and bacteria, cells and crystals, and substances like protein, glucose, and ketones that aren't ordinarily seen in urine but could indicate a problem.

Urine tests usually don't require any preparation, though the urinalysis testing provider may ask whether you're taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, as some of them can affect the color of your urine. The testing provider may also recommend that you attend the lab or clinic first thing in the morning to complete the test, which you should do.

For a urine test at a lab or clinic, you will be requested to give a small urine sample into a sterile cup. Before the test, your doctor or urinalysis testing provider may suggest you wash your vaginal area with mild soap and water to prevent bacteria from contaminating the sample. A lab will examine your urine sample to check if there are any abnormalities that could indicate illness or disease.

The results of a urine test might take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, depending on the type of test performed. Your doctor or the urinalysis testing company may call you personally if necessary to discuss your results and treatment alternatives.

Urinalysis Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a urine test cost in Addison?

Urine test prices vary depending on a variety of factors, including the type of test, test provider rates, and your geographic location. For individuals whose health insurance policies cover it, a urine test may be less expensive. Contact the urinalysis provider directly to confirm the cost of urine testing, or check with your health insurance provider to see if they will cover the cost.

  • Does insurance cover urine testing in Addison?

Urine testing is covered by many health insurance policies, especially if your doctor considers it medically necessary based on your symptoms and health condition. Contact your health insurance provider directly to learn more about your plan's features and to confirm whether urine testing is covered. Some urinalysis providers may be able to check your insurance benefits prior to your session.

  • What types of tests are done through urinalysis?

There are several types of urine tests that can be performed to check for various health problems and medical conditions. A glucose urine test can be used to diagnose and monitor diabetes, for example, whereas a protein urine test is frequently used to detect renal illness. Urine tests for bilirubin, ketones, and red blood cells are just a few of the different types of urine tests your doctor might order.

  • What can be detected through a urinalysis?

A urinalysis is a test that examines the urine for substances that could indicate the presence of an ailment, disease, or infection. Bacteria, blood, creatinine, nitrite, and white blood cells are just a few of the substances that can be detected by urinalysis. By detecting higher cholesterol levels, high crystal concentrations, urine acidity level (pH value), and urine acidity level (pH value), a urinalysis can also be used to confirm pregnancy (pH value).

  • How do I read urine test results?

To examine and interpret urine test results, you can use a visual examination, a microscope, or a dipstick—a tiny, plastic strip that changes color when abnormalities are found. In hospitals, clinics, and labs, urine test results are usually interpreted by a doctor or a lab worker. The majority of at-home urine test kits sold by pharmacies and other providers include detailed instructions on how to read and interpret your urine test results.

  • How long does it take to get urine test results in Addison?

Urine test results could be available in minutes or many days, depending on factors such as the type of test, lab wait times, and the method used to interpret data. The results of dipstick urine tests used to diagnose pregnancy, for example, are typically available in minutes. The urinalysis testing firm can give you a more accurate idea of when your results will be ready.

  • Where should I get a urinalysis in Addison?

A urinalysis can be done by a primary care physician, a walk-in laboratory, or a hospital. Some urine tests can be completed in the convenience of your own home. Your doctor can usually do a urinalysis for you or refer you to a lab or clinic that can. Inquire with your doctor about where you can get a urinalysis, or use Solv to find top-rated urinalysis providers in your area and make an appointment the same day.

  • How accurate are urine tests in Addison?

Urine tests have a high accuracy rate as long as the sample is taken in the middle of the flow. You collect a urine sample midstream by urinating for a few seconds, pausing mid-flow, and then collecting the residual pee in a sterile test cup. This method of collecting urine reduces the risk of bacterial contamination, which can lead to inaccurate test results. Additionally, cleaning the vaginal area before submitting a urine sample will help you avoid receiving inaccurate test results.

  • How can I book a urine test through Solv?

In only a few minutes, you may book a urine test with Solv. On our Home page, type "urinalysis" in the "What" form, then your location in the "Where" field. Solv can give you a list of urinalysis providers in your area who have received high ratings. After you've chosen a provider, phone them and make an appointment using the information provided. Many of the urinalysis clinics on Solv have same-day appointments available.

  • Can I do at-home urine testing?

At-home urine testing may be a possibility for you if you utilize a dipstick test. Urine tests that you can do at home include dipstick tests for pregnancy, urinary tract infection, and drug presence. Inquire with your doctor about at-home urine testing and whether it is a viable option for you, given your unique health situation. Your doctor may also advise you on the finest at-home urine tests to use in order to get accurate findings.
