This is the second time in three days that I have been to this facility. A couple of days ago I had accidentally used Hibiclens to soak my contacts in and really burned my eyes. Ryan saw me immediately and flushed my eyes and gave me some drops to ease the pain. Then he made an appointment for me with an ophthalmologist and I was seen and treated within two hours. On top of all that he took the time after hours to call my phone to check in on me. Extraordinary care and concern! My wife made an appointment for herself this morning through Soly. We saw Ryan again. There was no waiting and again received excellent care. Many thanks to the whole staff and team.

AFC Urgent Care, Southpoint - 6400 Fayetteville Rd
Came in to the urgent care with an online appointment scheduled. I have been here several times. I have insurance, which was verified by the office, but the front desk girl said I was required to have a credit card on file but couldn’t tell me why. She did say it would be on file in your system for FIVE years. Not only does that seem to be a crazy ask with verified insurance, she could explain why the card was needed or why it would be on file for years. Makes me question things for sure…. The provider was great but first impression needs improvement.

I was very surprised with my experience here. My appointment was made very quickly. I was seen in a very short period of time. My test results came back in a very timely manner. I was able to speak with a doctor soon after and was taking care of. I was very satisfied with the experience I had here. Elon HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIVs?

Anyone who has been sexually active, shared needles, or been exposed to blood from someone who is HIV positive should consider getting tested for HIV. This includes those in monogamous relationships, as an individual's partner may unknowingly be carrying the virus. According to the CDC, regular testing is recommended for those with multiple sexual partners, men who have sex with men, and individuals who have had sex for drugs or money.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for both personal health and the health of others. Early detection can lead to prompt treatment, which can significantly reduce the virus's impact on one's health and prevent its spread to others. According to the CDC, people who are unaware of their HIV positive status are estimated to contribute to nearly 40% of ongoing transmissions in the U.S.

HIV testing options in Elon, NC:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics offer convenient, same-day HIV testing. One such location is Novant Health- GoHealth Urgent Care in Greensboro, NC, which has a 4.62 rating and is praised for its short wait times and friendly staff.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers can also perform HIV testing during routine check-ups. If you have a primary care provider, consider asking them about HIV testing during your next visit.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often provide free or low-cost HIV testing. These centers are a valuable resource for those who may not have health insurance or who cannot afford testing otherwise.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are available for those who prefer privacy or cannot visit a clinic. These kits can be purchased online or at a local pharmacy and provide results within 30 minutes.

Prevalence of HIVs in Elon

While specific data for Elon, NC is not readily available, Alamance County, where Elon is located, has seen a steady rate of HIV cases in recent years. This trend is similar to nearby counties such as Raleigh County and Rappahannock County. However, these rates are lower than the national average, according to the CDC.

Risk factors related to HIVs in Elon

Risk factors for HIV in Elon mirror those at the national level. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and intravenous drug use. It's also important to note that while anyone can contract HIV, some populations are disproportionately affected, including men who have sex with men and African American communities.

Other STDs in Elon

In addition to HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis are present in Elon and surrounding areas. These STDs are often asymptomatic, making regular testing crucial. Hepatitis, another blood-borne disease, is also a concern. Testing for these STDs can often be done at the same time as HIV testing, and many of the same resources, like the Novant Health- GoHealth Urgent Care, offer comprehensive STD testing.

Remember, there are 53 nearby locations where you can get tested, and you can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at each through Solv’s website and mobile app.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Elon?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Elon clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Elon?

Many Elon health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
