I was feeling awful. The receptionist was my first encounter.. Absolutely proficient and caring. The Nurse was my next encounter, she was outstanding!! Ensured I was comfortable and provided water as I was coughing so much. The provider actually carefully listened to what i said. Not just in a hurry and brushing me off. She took the time to explain test results and plan of care going forward.. This was my second visit here.. Love it!

I find it very odd that a person would need to get an appointment to be seen at an Urgent Care Facility. Hence the term Urgent in the very nature of the Clinic Title and Name its definition description implies no appointment needed. Not walk on in and when we have an opening amongst all our appointments you will be seen. This is not a clinical hospital it is an Urgent Care. Nobody should be subjected to appointments. It should be a first come first serve basis. Now if you had one doctor dedicated to appointments and everyone else handling walking I could understand that. But, to be a walk in and then sit there for 5 hours while appointment people walking and are seen before me is infuriating. I will acknowledge that the last time I walked in I only had to wait 45 minutes. So, maybe this Urgent Care has resigned its appointment system. People do not plan to get get. This is why Urgent Care was created. To help people be seen faster than going to an ER.

After seeing such a hateful lie filled review of this place I had to write my own. I have been going here for 4 years and not only has it not been dirty EVER, The staff have ALWAYS been gracious and friendly and even gone above and beyond to make sure patients get in to see the doctor when they need it. They have been busy quite a few times and I have had to wait awhile. But that happens when a place takes walk ins and is an urgent care clinic and is not something that I can fault them for. All in all most every appointment here has been great with the doctor taking time to make sure I understand what I am taking and why.

Getting Urgent Care in Killeen, TX

What is urgent care?

Urgent care centers provide immediate, non-life-threatening healthcare services to patients in need. They bridge the gap between emergency rooms, which handle serious and life-threatening conditions, and primary care physicians, who manage ongoing and preventive care. Urgent care centers are equipped to handle a variety of medical issues that require immediate attention but are not severe enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room. These centers offer extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and do not require an appointment, making them a convenient option for many patients.

Common services and reasons for visit

Urgent care centers offer a wide range of services to address various health concerns. Here are some common reasons why patients visit urgent care:

  • Minor injuries: This includes sprains, strains, minor fractures, and cuts that may need stitches.

  • Illnesses: Conditions like flu, fever, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and strep throat can be treated at urgent care centers.

  • Diagnostic services: Many urgent care centers offer lab tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic services.

  • Preventive care: Some urgent care centers provide preventive care services such as vaccinations and physical examinations.

Types of healthcare providers

At an urgent care center, you'll encounter a variety of healthcare providers, each with their unique role and expertise:

  • Physicians: These are medical doctors (MDs) or doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) who diagnose and treat illnesses. They have completed medical school and residency training.

  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs): NPs are registered nurses with additional training and education, often at the master's or doctoral level. They can diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medication, and may serve as a patient's primary healthcare provider.

  • Physician Assistants (PAs): PAs are medical professionals who diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient’s principal healthcare provider. They practice medicine under the supervision of physicians and surgeons.

  • Registered Nurses (RNs): RNs provide patient care, administer medications, and assist with patient education. They have completed a nursing program and have passed a national licensing exam.

  • Medical Assistants (MAs): MAs perform administrative and clinical tasks to support the work of physicians and other health professionals. They may take patient history, measure vital signs, and assist with examinations and procedures.

When to go to an urgent care

Urgent care centers are ideal for non-life-threatening medical issues that require immediate attention. These may include minor fractures, sprains, burns, cuts requiring stitches, and common illnesses like flu, fever, earaches, and urinary tract infections. Urgent care centers are also equipped to provide diagnostic services like X-rays and lab tests. If your primary care physician is unavailable, or it's after hours, and your condition can't wait, urgent care is a convenient and cost-effective option.

Urgent care vs emergency room (ER)

While both urgent care centers and emergency rooms provide immediate medical care, the key difference lies in the severity of health issues they are equipped to handle. ERs are designed to treat severe and life-threatening conditions like heart attacks, strokes, severe wounds, and serious accidents. Urgent care centers, on the other hand, handle less severe ailments that still require immediate attention. Another significant difference is the cost and wait time. Visits to the ER are typically more expensive and involve longer wait times compared to urgent care centers.

Urgent care vs primary care

Primary care physicians are the go-to resource for regular check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations, and they help manage chronic conditions. They are familiar with their patients' medical history and offer personalized care. Urgent care centers, however, are more suitable for immediate, non-life-threatening situations when your primary care doctor is not available. While they don't replace the need for a primary care physician, they provide a crucial bridge between the regular care provided by your doctor and the emergency care provided by hospitals.

Urgent care vs retail clinic

Retail clinics, often found in pharmacies or supermarkets, are designed to treat simple conditions like colds, allergies, minor skin conditions, and to provide preventive care services like vaccinations. They are typically staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Urgent care centers offer a broader range of services, including treating more serious conditions like fractures and burns, and providing diagnostic services. Urgent care centers are usually staffed by board-certified physicians and provide a more comprehensive care option compared to retail clinics.

  • What is urgent care?

Urgent care are available to assist patients that are looking for immediate, convenient medical care. In that manner, they are similar to an emergency room. The difference, however, is that ERs are meant to treat major, life-threatening injuries and illnesses while urgent care centers manage life’s minor bruises and bumps. In simple terms, an urgent care is seen as a walk-in health center that focuses in offering non-emergent health care conditions, including the treatment of the typical illnesses and injuries such as fractures and sprains, cuts and burns, scrapes, stings and bites, flu and cold symptoms, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and much more. Most urgent care facilities offer both diagnostic and preventive care such as well visits, immunizations, STD testing and annual physicals. For regular visits and check-ups on these clinics, you should expect to pay between $20 and $100. The good thing is that most urgent care clinics will accept major PPOs and insurance cover, Medicare, as well as self-pay in the form of credit cards or cash. Urgent care clinics are located in most parts of the country in various regions to offset emergency room visits and provide a gap in healthcare services. They take patients during all hours of operations, which offer a significant convenience to most people who have and continue to undergo the need for sudden and immediate medical attention.

- Verified patient on 11/14

I loved that there wasn’t a long wait and the doctors got to the room very fast. The staff was very friendly as well. I don’t like going to places that there is a long wait between when the nurse sees you and then the doctor sees you. This was not like that. I will be using this place as my urgent care place from now on.

I reported to the front desk and told them I had an appointment to be tested at 7 pm. I was told to wait outside and I would receive a text when they were ready to see me. On the website I saw where I could fill out some paperwork which I did. The front desk came out to get me and asked for my paperwork. I told them that I had filled it out on line. The young lady said”ok, we’ll just need some initials.” I was led to a room where I was given copies of the paperwork I had already filled out on line with “x”s for my initials. I went ahead and initialed each “x”. The nurse came in, took the paperwork from me and told me, “But you didn’t fill out the rest of the information.” By this time I was more than frustrated with the whole situation and the nurse sensed it. She offered to finish filling out the paperwork. I would like to mention that this was none of her doing. The rest of my experience was actually very good. This is the second time we use this urgent care clinic and will probably use it in the future. Just need more attention at the front desk.

Very quick. Provider and M.A. were excellent. Front desk could have been friendlier. Over all a great experience. I have high expectations of an urgent care as a former urgent care director myself. Would definitely recommend

Great place to visit when your sick and can’t wait to see your primary. From when you check in, during your visit with the Doctor and the process of check out it was all excellent. I will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great urgent care.

Hello, this was my first visit to Fast Aid. My experience was that everything was top notch, other than one minor glitch The the x-ray report was given to me on a dvd-r. My laptop is able to read disks, however it wasn't able to read this one. So I wasn't able to follow up with my PCP later that afternoon. Even if I was able to read the disk it is an older technology that isn't used nearly as much as it used to. It seems like they might want to look into better ways to share information. But it was really no big deal and didn't taint an otherwise pleasant visit. This isn't me complaining, merely providing constructive feedback. Again I will say that overall I was pleased with the services provided. Anyway I am hoping the good service continues, so I know I'll have a place to go for urgent care. To me this was so much easier and faster than trying to get in to see my PCP. It wasn't an emergency so it didn't make sense to me to go to an ER. Fast Aid seems to me to be this go between. It's a great idea. Sort of like the difference between going to the Walgreen's around the corner instead of having to drive all the way across town to go to the grocery store, just to get one or two items real quick. This location is super convenient for me too. Glad they're in town now. Thanks!

I have 2 toddlers go to the daycare and when 1 get sick then the other one will be next. That’s why my kids are their regular patients as they get sick all time. I usually booked the appointment but then one time I was told “first come first serve, appointment was just for the paperwork”. Ok fine, next time I walked in with no appointment and was told “no walk in accepted, appointment only”. I was so confused as what to do because the management kept on changing their mind. My kid was sick I couldnt wait until tomorrow so I left to another urgent care that day. Tonight, I made an appointment, as I walked in the receptionist already knew by confirmed the name. She was quickly get us a room. The nurses were very thorough and professional. When the dr walked in; I was so happy and felt so lucky when I saw that was Dr Jeannie Huynh. She is the reason why I came back to this place after many issues we had. She always explained the cause and then the treatment so clearly. She always gave the correct diagnosis. I wish they have her as a regular dr at this location.

I went in with a dog bite to my hand. It was a deep puncture. I was in so much pain. They cleaned my hand ,took X-rays and put a splint on it. I had a Tetanus shot as well. They were so compassionate, kind and thorough. My appointment was at 5:45 and I was on my way home by 7 pm. I did not wait at all to see the medical staff. I was prescribed antibiotics and Motrin and this morning, I woke pain free. I am so grateful to the entire wonderful staff. I just cannot day enough good things about this place. I recommend it highly. This is where I’ll be coming from now on. I had called several other places before this and the other places wanted me to report my dog , they told me I’d have an extremely long wait and then my husband called Southwest Urgent Care. What a wonderful difference! I felt at ease immediately and they took such good care of me. I am beyond satisfied with their service. They are extremely knowledgeable, professional, yet friendly, kind and patient . One of the best experiences I have ever had at a clinic. I may be gushing, but they certainly deserve accolades!! Thank you so much from a very satisfied and happy patient.

Waited a bit after being admitted but there were obvious more urgent patients that needed immediate cate. Staff was friendly and thorough; made an effort to make sure I understood what was happening and next steps for my busted big toe. Showed me how to wrap it up properly and gave some guidance on activity levels and healing time. Sent xrays and a report (unlike other urgent cares) home with me for follow up care needs. The nurse was great! Kept the mood light despite my pain level and frustration with having to be there in the first place. He was able to make much needed candid conversation in the stressful situation and took the time to show his true care for my wellbeing. Incredibly refreshing for an urgent care clinic. The kind lady at check in also took the time to explain that PrimaCare also works with VA benefits - being a future mil spouse this is new knowledge and I am forever grateful for her explaining how and what plans they work with. Having to go to an urgent care isn’t a great experience to begin with, but this is the best urgent care experience I’ve had in years!

Urgent Care is a place I now choose fire my medical needs. The girls out front are sweet and get their job done! Harris is not only professional, but caring and understanding with her patients. She is knowledgeable and has helped me n family when we seek medical attention. I went to the facility on Monday, November 23. They were busy and Harris was not in that day. There was a male NP attending patients. I did not get his name. Well I really didn’t think I got the medical attention I was looking for. He was rushing, I am post Covid so my voice is not normal, I shake and my oxygen levels drop when I do things. He looked frustrated. I wasn’t even given chance to tell him what all was wrong with me. He did take chest X-ray. Then proceeded in sending me to the ER, where I waited 3.5 hours while people with Covid and lord knows what where walking in and some had no mask. So I walked out, did not want to go through that illness again. I just felt like he didn’t want to deal with me so passed me on. I know my lungs are weak and need oxygen at home... I was in tuba Ted 15 days in icu and spent time in rehabilitation hospital to walk and talk again! Why not just get me some oxygen to go home ? Anyway, Now I’ll be suffering until After Thanksgiving! I’ve always told my staff.. off you do not love what you do, then go find it!

No other urgent care places in the area took us as walk ins- my child had a terrible ear ache, sleepless night prior. Everyone was friendly and prompt. The place was clean with opportunities to social distance. Dr was cheerful and nice and professional. We got the help we needed. Thank you

I definitely was not feeling well. I wake up around 6 am from on and off broken sleep patterns, because I could not stop coughing throughout the night. I was looking for urgent care clinic that was opening up soon and close to my home. They offered online scheduling appointments. The process was simply and easy to follow instructions. Upon my arrival the staff was friendly, professional, facility is clean. Dr. Teresa and nurse was amazing. Awesome bedside manner. I definitely will use this clinic again.

Dr. Marco Vela excellent dr great sense if humor. I saw him fir the 1st time at Urgent care ❤ he took care if me and my pain in mt ears with antibiotics and a wonderful shot for pain. As for thw staff @ Urgent Care wonderful and polite. But staff at Dr Habers off the FRONT desk people and the off staff very RUDE. One of them told me i have to hear this all the time. I said well this should tell you something is not right.i told her its sad to hear yoy say this so i will maje sure Dr Milton hears about this cause he probably doesn't even know whats happening in his off. We have been patients of his for over thirty plus yrs. She hanged up phone twice left me on hold and then she put someone else to take my appt fir me and my husband Adan ana Maria Guajardo we LOVE DR HABER HE IS A EXCELLENT DR AND I TOLD HER I AM SURE IF HE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON HE WOULD TELL YOU ALL TO BE MORE COURTEOUS ESP SINCE HE HAS MANY OLDER PATIENTS LIKE US IN THE MID 60 AND ALL THIS VIRTUAL OFF VISITS IS NEW TO US W THIS PANDEMIC AND WE EXPECT AND DESERVE TO BE TREATED NICELY. I waited for 6 hours at Texas childrens urgent care with my toddler who had 104.2 fever so I decided to try here. Got in very quick even when they was busy and very nice. The only problem which was very stressful is that I had my husband and me with our sick 2 year old and 5 month old. They told me 1 parent per room but I couldn’t handle both babies by myself so they split us up. My 2 year old was screaming for me but COVID protocol they couldn’t put us together. It was stressful not being in the same room together and having to hold my baby down so the doctor can check him. The doctor didn’t understand why they didn’t put us together as well. I made it clear to every nurse and staff I saw that I had both kids there and had to run back and forth to try to help my husband and my baby. They was really nice and professional but it made it a hassle and Texas childrens didn’t have a problem with us being in the same room. Just didn’t want to wait for 6 hours to be seen.

This was our first experience at this pedi urgent care and I was very impressed. The staff was incredible and so accommodating to us. Our 6 yr old came in with strep symptoms and was in a lot of pain and discomfort. They accommodated her immediately to ensure she was comfortable while we waited our turn. Even letting her lay down in a vacant room while we waited. They checked on us periodically to let us know where we stood in line and talked so kindly to both of us. Best urgent care experience by far. I have 2 suggestions - 1. Since it’s a pedi focused urgent care it would be lovely to have bright and colorful decor surrounding us while we waited. The walls were completely bare and beige. Something simple like color and bright pictures but can really change a mood. 2. Instead of offering a sucker at the end (with the stickers - thank you) offer brave little boys and girls a toy. I understand the reason to reward them but if their immune system is already compromised it’s not a good idea to introduce high fructose corn syrup, sugar and dyes into their system that’s already fighting. A silly cheap toy would be just as rewarding without being detrimental. The stickers were great though and definitely made her smile!! Overall- really positive experience!!
