Wait time is everything. I had to wait almost an hour for having pink eye. After waiting so long, I was seen and out the door in 5 minutes. Ridiculous.

Urgent care
I just moved to San Marcos and had a sinus and ear infection. I have no primary yet so had to go here. The staff was so friendly and helpful in the check in process. I had a problem on my phone and he took care of it. The nurse was helpful and so friendly too. The doctor was great. I really liked him. Hopefully I won't have to use them again but if I do I feel confident that it will be a great experience.

Urgent Care in Lockhart, TX

Lockhart is the county seat of Caldwell County, Texas, with a population of approximately 16,000 residents situated about 30 miles southeast of Austin. Officially recognized by the Texas Legislature as the "Barbecue Capital of Texas," Lockhart draws visitors from across the state while serving a growing resident base that includes longtime Caldwell County families and new arrivals from the Austin metro. Ascension Seton's health centers provide primary and specialty care, while Texas MedClinic and Access Health Urgent Care offer walk-in services for acute needs. Residents also access the broader Austin urgent care network for extended specialty options.

When should you use urgent care instead of the ER in Lockhart?

Urgent care is appropriate for most non-emergency illnesses and injuries: sinus infections, ear infections, strep throat, UTIs, minor sprains and cuts, rashes, and flu symptoms. Lockhart's distance from major hospital systems makes it especially important to distinguish between conditions requiring an ER and those that can be handled at a local walk-in clinic. Use the emergency room for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing difficulty, major trauma, or any potentially life-threatening condition. Texas MedClinic and Access Health Urgent Care in Lockhart can assess urgency and transfer patients when necessary.

What do urgent care clinics in Lockhart treat?

Walk-in clinics in Lockhart treat a full range of everyday conditions, including respiratory infections, pediatric illness, skin and wound care, and minor orthopedic injuries. Clinics also provide occupational health services including DOT physicals near Lockhart, TX for commercial drivers along the US-183 and SH-130 corridors, and sports physicals near Lockhart, TX for school athletic programs. Lab testing and on-site X-ray are available at most urgent care locations.

Seasonal health in Lockhart and Caldwell County

Central Texas allergy seasons are prolonged and intense. Mountain cedar pollen peaks from November through February, causing widespread allergic rhinitis—known locally as "cedar fever"—across Caldwell County. Oak and grass pollen follow through late spring. Summer heat is extreme: Central Texas regularly records heat index values above 100°F, driving heat exhaustion visits to urgent care clinics from June through September. According to the Caldwell County Health Services,1 the county maintains indigent health care programs to support residents without coverage. Winter brings elevated influenza and RSV activity, particularly in school-age populations.

Who lives in Lockhart, TX?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts,2 Lockhart had a population near 13,000 at the 2020 Census, with current estimates approaching 16,000 as Austin metro spillover growth reaches Caldwell County. The city is ethnically diverse, with a significant Hispanic community and a mix of agricultural and light industrial employment. Access to affordable walk-in care is particularly relevant for a population that includes a meaningful share of uninsured and underinsured residents.

Does urgent care in Lockhart accept STAR Medicaid and other insurance?

Texas Medicaid is administered through the STAR managed care program, which provides health coverage for qualifying low-income children, pregnant women, and eligible adults, as described by Texas Health and Human Services.3 STAR members should verify their specific managed care organization's network before visiting, as covered clinics vary by plan. According to KFF State Health Facts,4 Texas has one of the highest uninsured rates in the United States, making self-pay pricing transparency an important access consideration for residents across the state.
