Wait time is everything. I had to wait almost an hour for having pink eye. After waiting so long, I was seen and out the door in 5 minutes. Ridiculous.

Urgent care
Scheduling was easy, I did it the night before. When I arrived, I was 2nd in line according to their link, and there didn’t seem to be many people there. Still, it took over an hour to be taken back and nearly 2 hours when all was said and done. This is my Urgent Care clinic of choice, but I’ve never seen this doctor before and it’s never taken this long in the past. Still, I would continue to use this clinic. Staff were friendly and my prescription was sent to my pharmacy promptly.

Urgent care in Wimberley, TX

Wimberley is a popular Hill Country destination in Hays County, situated along the Blanco River about 40 miles southwest of Austin and 15 miles north of San Marcos. A mix of year-round residents, retirees, vacation-home owners, and summer tourists creates a distinctive urgent care demand profile — one that peaks during summer months and holiday weekends. Walk-in clinics in the area serve the local community and provide visitors with care access without a long drive to Austin or San Antonio, and residents can access the full metro range through urgent care in Austin.

What services do urgent care clinics in Wimberley offer?

Clinics in the Wimberley–San Marcos corridor treat respiratory infections, UTIs, lacerations, sprains, insect bites, allergic reactions, sunburns, and waterborne illnesses — conditions relevant to Hill Country outdoor activities. Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital–San Marcos serve as the primary acute-care facilities for Hays County, with outpatient clinics accessible from Wimberley.2 San Marcos has the closest concentration of freestanding urgent care options, roughly 15–20 minutes southeast on FM 12 and RR 12.

Does urgent care in Wimberley accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Yes. Clinics in the Hays County region accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services.1 MCOs in Hays County include Molina Healthcare of Texas, Aetna Better Health, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Patients should confirm their plan is in-network at the specific clinic before visiting.3

How does Wimberley's Hill Country character shape urgent care demand?

Wimberley's population is approximately 3,272, per U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, but summer visitor populations can multiply local demand significantly — particularly around Jacob's Well Natural Area and the Blanco River swimming holes.4 Water-related injuries, tick exposures, heat exhaustion, and allergy flares are common summer urgent care presentations. Wimberley also has a growing retirement community, increasing demand for chronic disease management follow-up and low-acuity urgent care during the winter season. For complex care or after-hours emergencies, San Marcos and Kyle hospitals are the nearest options, with the full Austin network accessible via urgent care in Austin.
