I was so pleased with my visit and building a rapport with the staff. I would like her to be my PCP even! They were patient thorough and I’m so pleased and at ease of the relief I finally got. The resources and laughter shared,I’m thankful that I encountered this clinic. The steroid prescribed I feel like a breakthrough and that it will pass. I will do my due diligence of dr’s orders. They treated me so good!

Atlanta Urgent Care, Druid Hills - 2738 Clairmont Rd
Our visit with the physician and nursing staff was great. We had an 11:20 appt and waited for about an hour to be seen. Exam was thorough and doctor was friendly and attentive. We were told 2 prescriptions were being prescribed: an antibiotic and a steroid. Upon picking up the prescriptions, only 1 was available. Pharmacy indicated only 1 prescription was provided to them. I then called Atlanta Urgent Care to inquire about the 2nd order and to request phone submission of the missing medication. I waited on hold for 20 minutes to speak with someone, communicated what happened to the receptionist and was then put on hold for an additional 20 minutes while she was looking into the issue. After 45 minutes, I gave up and ended the call.

Getting Tested for STDs in Acworth, GA

Who should get tested for STDs?

Everyone who is sexually active should consider regular STD testing as part of their health routine. This is especially true for those with multiple sexual partners, those who have unprotected sex, or those who suspect they may have been exposed to an STD. Regular testing is also recommended for individuals who identify as gay or bisexual, as well as for those who use intravenous drugs, according to the CDC.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for maintaining good health. Many STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning they show no signs or symptoms. Without testing, these diseases can go undetected and untreated, leading to serious health complications such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of these complications.

Std testing options in Acworth, GA:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics provide convenient, same-day STD testing. These facilities often have shorter wait times and extended hours compared to traditional doctor's offices. In Acworth, GA, you can book same-day and next-day appointments at 457 urgent care centers and medical laboratories through Solv’s website and mobile app. One such location is AllCare Primary & Immediate Care in nearby Dallas, GA.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for STD testing. These healthcare professionals can provide testing as part of a regular check-up or upon request. They can also provide follow-up care and treatment if needed.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who are unable to afford testing, free STD testing may be available at community health centers. These centers often provide testing on a sliding scale based on income.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another option for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent to a lab for analysis. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Acworth

Acworth, located in Cobb County, GA, has seen a rise in STD rates in recent years, mirroring a national trend. According to the CDC, the most commonly reported STDs in the area are chlamydia and gonorrhea, with syphilis also being reported. The rates of these diseases are higher in Acworth than in nearby counties such as Lee County and Cleveland County.

Risk factors related to STDs in Acworth

Several risk factors can contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Acworth. These include a lack of education about STDs, limited access to healthcare, and social and economic factors. Additionally, certain behaviors such as unprotected sex, having multiple sexual partners, and drug use can increase the risk of contracting an STD. Efforts to address these risk factors through education, increased access to testing, and community outreach are crucial in reducing the prevalence of STDs in Acworth.

STD Testing FAQs

  • Where should I get an STD test in Acworth?

In a doctor's office, a health clinic, or an urgent care center, you can get an STD test. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's best to visit a doctor's office, where they can also treat you or issue you a prescription. While some Acworth clinics and urgent care centers allow walk-in appointments, it's advisable to make an appointment ahead of time to prevent excessive waits.

  • How long does it take to get STD test results?

Various testing are required for various STDs. Depending on the type of STD test you took, you may receive your results in two to ten days. Some outcomes may be immediately available. Your doctor may be able to diagnose an STD through a physical examination. In some cases, your doctor's office may only contact you if your test results are positive.

  • How much does an STD test cost in Acworth?

The cost of STD testing is governed by several factors, including where you are tested, the type of test you need, and if you have health insurance. Some Acworth clinics may offer free testing or testing on a sliding scale based on your income. Because of the cost, don't put off obtaining an STD test. With your doctor's office, discuss the cost and payment choices. Delaying STD treatment may have catastrophic implications.

  • Does insurance cover STD testing in Acworth?

Some clinics may provide free or sliding-scale testing, depending on your income. Don't let the expense of an STD test deter you from getting one. With your doctor's office, discuss the price and payment choices. Delaying STD treatment could have catastrophic ramifications.

  • How do they test for STDs in Acworth?

There are around 20 different forms of STDs, each with its own set of diagnostic tests. No single test exists that can detect all types of STDs. Your doctor can help you figure out which tests you'll need. In STD testing, a blood sample or a urine sample may be used. Your doctor may also take a swab from the inside of your cheek, your vaginal area, or another potentially infected place.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

Blood tests are used to diagnose hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, HIV, and syphilis. In a laboratory, a technician examines a blood sample for antibodies that the body has produced in reaction to disease. The virus's DNA can also be detected by several blood tests. Remember that if you've recently been exposed to an STD and your body hasn't yet produced antibodies, you could test negative even if you have the disease.

  • Can I test myself for STDs at home?

Although there are several STD home tests available, not all of them are accurate. The accuracy of any STD test is determined by the quality of the sample taken. For home STD kits, a blood sample, a urine sample, or both are frequently required. Because doctors and nurses have more experience collecting samples, traditional in-office STD testing is the most accurate.
