I had been struggling with a really bad cough and fatigue for weeks. My primary care was book out over a month. I was able to book same day and get right in and treated. The staff were super friendly and patient with me. I highly recommend this establishment.

I still don't have the results of my 24-48 hour cultures from Saturday morning 8 a.m. appt. I made an appt at 8 a.m. but the outside door did not open until exactly 8 a.m. At 8:10 another customer walked in and was taken back before me. Between 8-8:10 I could hear the entire loud conversation of the staff in the back, and it wasn't "work related" I wasn't seen by a practitioner until nearly 8:20. I personally have worked as a direct care provider in healthcare for 39 years. This was my first visit to an AFC. My first impression was not that of timeliness and professionalism. The facility was clean but blah. Once treated the staff was friendly. I will let you know if I would return after I see the charges. First impressions can last a long time. My experience OK, but could have been much better.

The doctor sent over a different prescription than what we had talked about. I was supposed to get something for my bladder infection and Hy-Vee pharmacy said it was the wrong medication. Can you please check and send over the correct prescription to Hy-Vee yet tonight?

Urgent Care in Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota consistently ranks among the top five states in national health indices, yet it harbors some of the widest racial health disparities in the nation — a phenomenon researchers call the Minnesota Paradox.1 Black, Indigenous, and Hispanic Minnesotans experience significantly worse health outcomes, shorter life expectancy, and less access to timely care than white residents, even in a state that outperforms most of the country overall. At the same time, Minnesota's uninsured rate jumped from a historic low of 3.8 percent in 2023 to 5.8 percent in 2025 — adding roughly 116,000 newly uninsured residents — driven largely by Medicaid redeterminations following the end of pandemic-era continuous enrollment.2 Urgent care clinics in Minneapolis absorb much of the daily health care demand that primary care and emergency rooms cannot efficiently meet.

When should you use urgent care instead of the ER in Minneapolis?

Urgent care is the right choice for most non-emergency conditions: fever, strep throat, ear and sinus infections, urinary tract infections, minor lacerations requiring stitches, sprains and minor fractures (with on-site X-ray), skin rashes, and COVID-19 or flu testing. Hennepin Healthcare's emergency department and other Minneapolis ERs are appropriate for chest pain, stroke symptoms, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, major trauma, or any condition where you might need surgery. Emergency room wait times in the metro average over an hour before a physician begins care; urgent care visits are typically completed in far less time and at a lower cost, with no specialist referral needed for routine illness and injury.

Which urgent care providers serve Minneapolis?

Minneapolis has a well-developed urgent care network anchored by the major health systems serving the Twin Cities. Allina Health operates an urgent care clinic at 3270 W. Lake St. in Minneapolis, with extended hours on weekdays and weekend access — and no requirement to be an existing Allina patient.3 HealthPartners operates urgent care and Como Clinic locations across the metro, accepting most insurance plans including Medical Assistance. Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC), the city's federally qualified safety-net system, serves uninsured and underinsured patients in Minneapolis regardless of ability to pay. M Health Fairview and North Memorial Health provide additional urgent care capacity across Minneapolis and its northern suburbs. For urban Native and Indigenous residents, the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis on Franklin Avenue offers culturally grounded primary and urgent care that blends Indigenous and Western medicine.4 Find available urgent care in Minneapolis on Solv.

What conditions do urgent care clinics in Minneapolis treat?

Minneapolis walk-in clinics handle a full range of acute illness and injury. Common visits include respiratory infections (influenza, RSV, COVID-19, strep throat), sinus infections, ear infections, skin infections and rashes, minor burns, wound care, occupational health exams, sports physicals, and DOT physicals. Cold-weather injuries are notably prevalent in Minneapolis: frostbite, hypothermia, and falls on ice are winter staples that urgent care clinics manage throughout November through March. Minneapolis's large Somali and East African immigrant community, and its significant urban Native population, create demand for culturally competent care and language-accessible services at walk-in clinics. Patients in Saint Paul or the suburbs can compare urgent care in St. Paul, urgent care in Bloomington, and urgent care in Eden Prairie.

Does urgent care in Minneapolis accept Medical Assistance?

Yes. Medical Assistance (MA) is Minnesota's Medicaid program, and it is accepted at most Minneapolis urgent care providers including Allina Health, HealthPartners, and Hennepin Healthcare. As of December 2024, approximately 1.16 million Minnesotans were enrolled in Medical Assistance statewide.5 However, Medicaid redeterminations following the end of pandemic-era continuous enrollment contributed to the state's uninsured rate rising from 3.8 percent (2023) to 5.8 percent (2025), adding roughly 116,000 newly uninsured residents.2 If you lost Medical Assistance coverage recently, MNsure (Minnesota's health insurance marketplace) can help you explore coverage options. Urgent care clinics including Hennepin Healthcare provide care to uninsured patients on a sliding-fee basis. Call ahead or use Solv's insurance filter to confirm your specific MA managed care plan is accepted before your visit.

What seasonal and environmental health concerns are common in Minneapolis?

Minneapolis winters are severe by national standards, with average temperatures regularly dropping below zero and snowfall that creates ice fall hazards throughout the extended season (November through April). Frostbite to extremities and ice-related falls and fractures account for a meaningful volume of winter urgent care visits. Spring brings tree pollen (birch and oak) that triggers allergic rhinitis across the metro. Summer thunderstorms occasionally cause outdoor injuries and flooding-related illness. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, the state's uninsured rate rose to its highest point in six years in 2025, reversing years of progress, and the Minnesota Hospital Association warned in April 2026 that the state's nonprofit health care system is entering a period of financial crisis driven in part by increased uncompensated care demand.6 Urgent care serves as a critical pressure valve in this environment, offering affordable walk-in access for patients who might otherwise delay care.

How does the Minnesota Paradox shape urgent care demand in Minneapolis?

Despite Minnesota's strong aggregate health rankings, MN Community Measurement data shows that Black, Indigenous, and Hispanic/Latinx Minnesotans face persistent gaps in preventive care utilization, chronic disease management, and timely access to primary care.1 In Minneapolis specifically, North Side and South Side neighborhoods with concentrated communities of color experience higher rates of uninsurance, delayed care, and preventable emergency department visits. Urgent care clinics — particularly those with Medical Assistance acceptance, sliding-fee scales, and culturally accessible staff — play an outsized role in bridging these gaps. According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, Minneapolis has a population of approximately 429,954, with a notably diverse demographic profile.7 Patients near Brooklyn Park or Plymouth can also find urgent care in Brooklyn Park and urgent care in Plymouth on Solv.
