Urgent care
Online scheduling was a breeze. Checking in was completed by the extremely supportive medical assistant who saw all the pain I was in and got a wheelchair while I waited, to eliminate walking to the exam room. All of the staff were helpful and kind I'm so appreciative of my experience. I'll be back for my follow-up. Thank you

We were walk ins. Well treated. We don’t do online scheduling so that part of the review does not apply. Have no complaints.

Urgent care
It was my first time at Carbon Health Urgent Care and it was a wonderful experience. From the young lady at the front desk, to Abby, to Lara. They were all very friendly and helpful. It’s no fun being under the weather, but it great when you receive outstanding care.

They were swamped. My appointment was for 11am but waited until 12:45 to be called.

Urgent care
The front-end staff at check-in were knowledgeable, friendly, and supportive. The two female team members seemed to enjoy working there and directing patients to the appropriate care provider in the facility. The doctor and nurse on duty were outstanding with efficient and thorough discovery and diagnosis of the condition and treatment. Thank you for operating with the highest standards for patient care!

Urgent Care in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is Missouri's largest metro and one of the most recent U.S. cities to fully feel Medicaid expansion's effects. Voters approved expansion in August 2020 and the state launched coverage in October 2021 — by mid-2024, nearly 300,000 Missourians had enrolled through MO HealthNet's expansion category. University Health (formerly Truman Medical Center) remains the city's anchor safety-net system, while urgent care fills the gap for newly insured residents seeking same-day care without ER waits.

Does urgent care in Kansas City accept MO HealthNet?

Yes. MO HealthNet — Missouri's Medicaid program — is accepted at most Kansas City urgent care clinics, including AFC Urgent Care, GoHealth Urgent Care, and University Health's affiliated clinics. The 2021 expansion added a new MO HealthNet category covering adults up to 138% of the federal poverty level, which has driven significant growth in urgent care utilization across the metro. Confirm your specific MO HealthNet managed care plan (Healthy Blue, Home State Health, or United Healthcare Community Plan) when booking.

How do urgent care wait times compare to Kansas City ERs?

Urgent care wait times in Kansas City typically run 20 to 45 minutes, with online booking through Solv reducing in-clinic wait further. ER waits at the metro's two largest systems — Saint Luke's Health System and University Health — frequently exceed two hours for non-emergency visits, particularly during evenings and weekends. University Health, which provides more uncompensated care than all other Kansas City hospitals combined, sees especially long waits because it handles a disproportionate share of the city's uninsured and complex cases. For a sprain, sore throat, or UTI, urgent care is meaningfully faster and dramatically cheaper.

What services do Kansas City urgent care clinics offer?

Kansas City urgent care clinics treat acute, non-life-threatening conditions including respiratory infections, strep, flu, COVID-19 testing, urinary tract infections, sprains and minor fractures with on-site X-ray, lacerations requiring stitches, asthma flares, ear infections, allergic reactions, and minor burns. Major providers across the metro include AFC Urgent Care, GoHealth Urgent Care (in partnership with Saint Luke's), Concentra, MinuteClinic, and Swope Health's walk-in services for federally qualified health center care. Many clinics offer occupational health, sports physicals, and travel vaccines.

What insurance do Kansas City urgent care clinics accept?

Kansas City urgent care clinics accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Medicare, and MO HealthNet Medicaid managed care plans. Many also accept TRICARE, given the metro's military and veteran population. Self-pay rates typically range from $130 to $225 for a basic visit. Saint Luke's-affiliated GoHealth clinics generally publish transparent self-pay pricing online — useful for the still-uninsured residents who fall outside expansion thresholds.

When should I go to urgent care in Kansas City instead of the ER?

Choose urgent care for fever and infections, sprains, suspected simple fractures, lacerations, mild asthma flares, ear and sinus infections, UTIs, dehydration, and minor burns. Go directly to University Health, Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, Research Medical Center, or Saint Joseph Medical Center — or call 911 — for chest pain, stroke symptoms (FAST signs: face droop, arm weakness, speech difficulty), severe trauma, head injury with loss of consciousness, severe shortness of breath, or severe abdominal pain. University Health is Kansas City's only Level I trauma center and the appropriate destination for major trauma.
