Due to a change in procedures at the clinic I am usually seen, I was referred to Chai Care for a consult. From the friendly office staff scheduling my appointment, the ease of filling out paperwork, the availability, the understandable instructions for my telemed call to the provider on the call…..Everything about my experience was top notch!!! Thank you!!!

First time client. Outstanding experience. Easy sign in and data entry mostly electronic and fast (DID NOT have to fill out tons of paper forms, thank goodness). Kept updated on minimal wait times, everyone friendly, efficient, intelligent and professional. Highly recommended. This was as smooth an experience as I’ve had at an urgent care facility.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

The staff was extremely nice and understanding. Easy to talk with. Knew what they were doing as far as COVID testing. Also they didn’t hurt me when I did the test like the last place I went to. It was quick, easy and painless. (Just a little discomfort as expected)

- Verified patient on 9/2

Me and my family have been to Urgent Care many times for Covid testing but this was the first at this location. While your PA was extremely nice and caring, I can’t say the same of your front desk receptionist. We arrived on the day before Christmas eve without appointments because the phone recording clearly says that one was not necessary. She was totally unprofessional and rude, abrupt and out of line. My daughter was then able to schedule us for Christmas Day, but, again, the receptionist at the desk was unpleasant and abrupt in her demeanor. These are extremely difficult circumstances and every one is trying to cope to their abilities but a little compassion and understanding is certainly not much to ask from a health care agency. This is not the type of job someone should have if he/she doesn’t like dealing with the public, no matter the situation. Or, perhaps they should seek other employment that keeps them in a room with no social interaction. Urgent Care really needs to address how their receptionist staffing handles such matters if they’re going to see me in the future.

- Verified patient on 12/27

I made an appt. for a Covid test, but ended up being late. The staff was very nice and understanding and got me right in. I got my results the next day. I was very pleased with my experience and would definitely return.

- Verified patient on 12/18

I was rapid COVID tested at 430 pm on Sunday 11/15/***. I had to return to the facility on Monday 11/16/*** to get results . No communication with me whatsoever. Staff was friendly and professional. Appointment was on time . Facility was super clean but again no communication

- Verified patient on 11/16

All of the staff were great, wasn’t a big fan of the doctor. I was able to get a rapid covid test which was great to ease my mind. But didn’t really check out or discuss my symptoms. Ended up needing to go to city md 2 days later and needing antibiotics.

- Verified patient on 10/6

When I came into for my rapid COVID test, I was very pleased by the professionalism and level of patient care. The receptionist was extremely polite, professional, and supportive. The foyer was clean, quiet, and organized. Most importantly, the nurse (who's name I can't recall) was very professional, skilled, efficient, and timely! As a dean for the NYC Department of Education & Brooklyn, Bed-Stuy homeowner, I will certainly patronize this clinical facility whenever need-be ~ five star care. The pleasure was all mine. Chad

- Verified patient on 2/15

Went for COVID test. I had an appointment. I strongly recommend making an appointment while it’s so busy. I was taken in with almost no wait time at all. I was seen almost immediately once in the exam room. The doctor was professional and friendly and polite. I was done very quickly and then the doctor called with the results she was very helpful. The facility was clean as always (I’ve been a few other times) and everyone was kind and efficient at their jobs.

- Verified patient on 3/25

I got to urgent care at 10:35 wasn't seen until 11:23, just for a covid test an lady came about 15 minutes after I did and she was seen before me and I'm sure she came for the same test, and I had a 10:45 am appointment

- Verified patient on 3/14

Scheduled online for COVID test. Only issue was that it was only possible to book for one person online before appointments were all gone, while my whole household needed to be tested. If an entire household needs to be tested but can’t all at once it defrosts the purpose of testing. I called the clinic for two days before someone picked up so I could rectify the situation. Everything else went fine.

- Verified patient on 11/24

I was next to be seen but I waited an hour past my appointment time. Other than the wait everything was fine. Staff was fine. The swab for covid test was fine. You can wait in your car and they will call you to go to room _.

- Verified patient on 2/20

tell all of your patients that’s there to take a covid test to sign in on line before coming to urgent care. To wait on line for almost an hour just to go inside to sign in and then wait again for another 2or3 hours is ridiculous!!!!

- Verified patient on 3/28

My Father needed a Covid test for pre surgery screening. He is very stressed and everything here was smooth helping to put his mind at ease. The paperwork was Quick and easy to fill over on my phone. Overall he left feeling at ease.

- Verified patient on 5/8

I made an appointment so my wait time was not bad! I know because of covid testing the wait would be longer so I actually came 15 minutes later! Lol! But the staff was great! They work hard especially during these trying times!!!

- Verified patient on 2/12

I used the solv app booked us it was quick and easy. Got a Covid test appointment within a half an hour. Both test results came back. One immediately and the next within 24 hours. The staff person administering the test was friendly and knowledgeable. Great customer service. I would definitely come here again

- Verified patient on 9/13

Amazing experience. I had an appointment for covid testing. Arrived early and was cordially greeted by staff. Seated in a socially distanced waiting area. Promptly tested at my scheduled time. Received my results within 5 minutes. Excellent experience during a difficult time.

- Verified patient on 1/9

While the nurse practitioner and the staff member that took my covid test were kind, the woman at the front desk was harsh and had a bit of an attitude. Ultimately I didn’t have to wait too long to be seen so I would go back. You do have to stand outside which could be hard if you have children with you.

- Verified patient on 4/3

My wife and I went in for COVID tests. We were able to make appointments onlne, and were seen right on time. Waiting area was appropriately marked for social distancing. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the office called with our results promptly. Overall a very positive experience (though, fortunately, negative test results).

- Verified patient on 10/16

The staff here at prohealth urgent care in bensonhurst, Brooklyn was extremely kind and helpful, from the front desk to the person doing my Covid test. I had such a pleasant experience here and would travel farther from home just to come here. You can tell they truly love their jobs and it shows through their customer care. Thank you!

- Verified patient on 2/13

Following my Covid test, the receptionist called me with the results of my rapid test. She told me it read positive but she wasn’t 100% sure. THAT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, whether it be during a pandemic or any other time. You hold the health of your client in your hands; HOW DARE YOU NOT GET IT RIGHT!

- Verified patient on 2/8

Everyone was amazing, kind and patient. Starting from the front desk Sue that registered me in nano speed to dr Chen and tech Alessandro. They made my Covid test experience less scary. I have recommended this urgent care to my family and friends.

Brooklyn COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Brooklyn?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Brooklyn?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Brooklyn-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Brooklyn?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Brooklyn including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Brooklyn?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Brooklyn-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Brooklyn?

Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Brooklyn?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Brooklyn?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
