Arlington Chlamydia Testing

Who should get tested for chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection that affects both men and women. It is recommended that anyone who is sexually active, particularly those with multiple partners, should get tested regularly for chlamydia. The CDC specifically recommends annual testing for all sexually active women under 25, and for older women with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners. Men who have sex with men should also be tested at least annually. It's important to note that chlamydia can be asymptomatic, meaning you could have the infection without showing any signs or symptoms.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for chlamydia is crucial in preventing the spread of the infection and avoiding potential health complications. If left untreated, chlamydia can cause serious health problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women, which can lead to infertility. In men, it can cause a condition called epididymitis, which may also lead to infertility if not treated. Moreover, chlamydia increases the risk of contracting other STDs, including HIV.
