I absolutely love my experience with the NP Kirra. The empathy, knowledge, and remembering me from my last visit with her goes a long way. Caring enough to check on me after I called back was top tier! I absolutely love her!

South Center Medical Clinic, Primary Care Clinic - 15215 52nd Ave S
First, this: the office location was not what I expected, so I wasn't sure quite what I'd find inside.  Honestly, nothing bad about the location, but the exterior signage is a bit lacking. Inside, the front desk staff was friendly, efficient, very easy to check in. For the actual medical visit, Dr. Danh was great.  Seemed willing to spend time and listen to me, gave me a few recommendations to consider beyond the immediate concern that brought me to the clinic.  I can't say I've ever "enjoyed " a visit to a doctor's office or clinic, but this place was a nice surprise.  If I didn't already have a primary care provider, I'd definitely consider making this my go-to practice for medical care.

This is how testing should be. This was easy, quick, essential paperwork only, friendly, efficient, sanitary, and the staff were amazing. Whoever put this place together should tell the soulless leaders of the us hospital system how to Covid care right. Also I was out before my text to tell me my wait in line came through.

I have been feeling ill for a while. My Dr office couldn't get me for a week. Made an appointment online. Waited for only about 5 min. Everyone at office was great. Got tests done and a breathing treatment done and it was less that an hour from start to finish. My nurse practitioner was knowledgeable and caring. I had an excellent experience

Will my favorite thing to do when I get my parking lot is to use the app 2 check myself in. And after I check myself in it usually is about a 10 minute Wait before I am called Into a room. And the entire time I'm waiting whether it'd be in the room that they put me in or the waiting room. The staff is always very friendly and asks if I would like something to drink, they bring it to me, If I do. Even when I'm in the room that they place me in, it seems like it's only a 10 minute wait, sometimes less never been in the room that they put me in for more than 25 minutes, though. In the nearest gets ride to making sure that they know why you're here and they know what you're pulse rate is, Basic nurse stuff. But they do when you come in, and then usually I wait another 5 minutes. Show me this time. It's been probably about 25 minutes. Most of the time that I've been there. So like 75% of the time when I go in. I'm only Waiting about 25 minutes. I think the longest that I had to waive was 35 before a doctor came in. But the clinic was extremely busy that day. Using the clinic's non is busy as it was on this particular day. But more times than not, I'm in an out within 45 minutes. In despite what clinic I go into. They always ask me if I would like to change my pharmacist to whatever's closes. And put the time and get to the pharmacy. Usually it's only a few minutes cause the prescriptions already comes through. I just have to let them know that I'm there so they can fill it. But I've never actually gone into one of these clinics and waited longer than 30 to 45 minutes to be in N out. It's Way of Efficient quick and efficient a 100% of the time. Would rather go into one of these clinics than ever. Go into the emergency room ever again. I would rather wait Less than 1 hour VS several hours of wait And I tend to find that this clinic has Way less people in it every single time that I've gone. There's less than 12 people in the waiting room. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen 12 people waiting I think the most of the scene is 5 in the waiting room at the same time. Staff superfriendly an extremely helpful. There's always appointments that if they're booked that day if you showed that they're front door at 8 AM when they first open. You wanna be there 30 minutes before they open? Because there is a line is it first? Come first serve but they can squeeze you in for that day if the entire day is booked. There's always appointments that if they're booked that day if you showed that they're front door at 8 AM when they first open you wanna be there 30 minutes before they open? Because there is a line is it first come first serve, but they can squeeze you in for that day if the entire day is booked. And you really Need an appointment that day. An appointment I believe they taken 12 walk-ins in the out of that line every morning. That's walk-ins, and then they don't take anymore for the entire day and you get scheduled for the next day. Would highly recommend any multicare and indigo urgent care Facility.

I’ve been here two times for the same issue & both times I’m told different things. The first time, my throat swab was not sent out for culture even though my tonsils showed signs of infection. This time I had to ask for a culture and was told that there’s not going to be any info since our tonsil have natural bacteria… and then I was told I have seasonal allergies, but I’ve been in bed for 5 days with my symptoms getting worse. Today I was called to be informed that my swab was not a good enough collection and I’ll need to come back to redo it. It’s such an inconvenience for someone who is sick and has to take public transportation. I feel like I’ve wasted my time and should have gone to a different urgent care.

Mary Bridge Children's Urgent Care, Gig Harbor (KIDS ONLY) - 4700 Point Fosdick Dr
Mary Bridge Children's Urgent Care is my favorite urgent care to go to. Convenient online scheduling, easy check-in process, fast wait times, concerns are addressed appropriately, friendly staff, and you're out in about an hour from start to finish. The only area that could be improved is if you have questions after your appointment, it's hard to get a hold of anyone, and then you don't get a call back. I highly recommend Mary Bridge Children's Urgent Care

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Staff was wonderful, got my COVID test quickly and they were so nice even though I didn’t have an appointment. Helped me use QR code and didn’t even make me feel old! I would recommend this site to anyone.

- Verified patient on 9/19

Fast and easy; very few people there and I had to bring my 2 yr old with me which I was a little worried about but was totally fine, he sat on my lap while I got the covid test. In and out in under 5 mins!

- Verified patient on 4/5

Covid testing site, process and staff were A+. The street signage to get to the testing site is severely lacking. I must have backtracked 4 times to get the right street and parking entrance.

- Verified patient on 4/28

The staff was very friendly and comforting. I was a little afraid of the swab going all the way up my nose, so I was relieved about the self-administered tests. Overall, it was a good experience. Would recommend Highline to friends and family members for Covid testing.

- Verified patient on 5/12

Came for COVID test. It was perfect. No line, no wait. Booked my appointment online on the website. I would definitely recommend this testing site. Check-in was very east.

- Verified patient on 10/19

Thank you very much for the friendly manner you took care of me in my visit to do my covid test. Please keep it up. Juan cuz

- Verified patient on 3/13

My daughters are traumatized with the Covid test and then knowing what is coming can make getting them tested a horrible experience but aside from explaining that the test is different they didn’t put the swab all the way up like other places and they left staying that they want to always get tested there if we need to do it again. Thank you!

- Verified patient on 11/24

My first time getting COVID tested through UW Medicine and Solv at the Kent/Des Moines test site. Super easy and efficient. I registered and filled out paperwork online to expedite the process. All three workers were friendly and competent. Wait time was about 5 minutes. I used my insurance but believe the testing is free regardless. I will return for future testing through Solv.

- Verified patient on 9/11

Im not happy today because one of your employee is not respectful because she hit my nose hard before she start it i told her not to do so deep it gone bleed yet she didnt listen to me when she finish my nose its bleed its very painful and i told her my nose is very sensitive and i asked her to redo it she said no i said why not she didnt answer me i call the lead and tell what happened it will be possible to kick her out in the front line that no good to have that kind of employee i hope you understand my situation thanks a lot i dont want to be happened again i always negative ever since we have a covid test

- Verified patient on 3/10

There for covid testing. Filled out paperwork ahead of time. Great service, no wait line. Instructions on how to perform the test w the swab could have been better. The staff that instructed my husband was much more thorough. I hope it does not negatively impact the validity of my results. We drove from so of olympia to Kent due to no available openings for testing any closer. Thank you for all you are doing to help our communities. You guys are awesome.

- Verified patient on 9/4

Great to have a COVID testing site next to our clinic . UW Kent/Desmoines. Staff are so helpful in checking in and test was fast and convenience for walking in like myself. Thank you so much for your service !

- Verified patient on 10/25

It was FREE Covid testing! The Highline community college site was a great choice. The people in line safely were 6 feet + apart They only took one minute to get everything set and finish test for me. Would recommend anyone near Des Moines

- Verified patient on 11/20

I was so impressed with the layout, organization, efficiency, professionalism and warmth of the staff at the Highline College testing site. I'm hugely appreciative of the different kind of nose swab testing which was much less painful than my previous experiences elsewhere. Bless you! You'll be my go-to Covid testing site from now on, even though I live in West Seattle!

- Verified patient on 12/24

Had to get a Covid test due to my husband testing positive. Found this site close to home and easy to do. Got results 2 days afterwards.

- Verified patient on 9/22

I love to come here for COVID testing and introduced my whole family come to test. Everybody like this place so much. You don’t have to wait , big parking and the staff were very nice and respectful. You don’t need to register, they can help you out quickly. Thank you so much for helping us with great heart during the pandemic.

- Verified patient on 3/30

I have had four covid tests before the one today. I don't think the person doing it today knew what she was doing. It was unnecessarily painful. She used way more force than has been used in the past. I have had transsphenoidal surgery so I was actually dangerous for her to do that. It shouldn't be so firm that I struggle to keep my head from moving.

I scheduled an appointment to get a covid test for early afternoon on a Friday. There was no line whatsoever! The process was very fast. The staff member that swabbed me complimented me on two things while she worked. It was such a nice distraction. I am delighted to hear the system has been updated to text me when my results are ready. I was tested last month and it wasn’t set up for that so I was obsessively checking to see if my results were ready. :( The new system gives you much more peace of mind. I’m so grateful for this free, professional, and organized testing opportunity. Great job!

I was able to schedule an appointment for about 15 minutes from when I began search online for covid test sites. Location is very convenient to where I live, staff were responsive and friendly. From parking my car to check in to nasal swab, I was on-site for less than 5 minutes.

I was a little scared because I've never had a covid test before and the staff was so friendly and put me at ease right away.

Des Moines COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Des Moines?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Des Moines?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Des Moines-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Des Moines?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Des Moines including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Des Moines?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Des Moines-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Des Moines?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Des Moines are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Des Moines?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Des Moines?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
