I walked in at 3:50 PM and was immediately stared at by both the front desk and a nurse/medical assistant. I wasn’t sure which one. But she gave me a dirty look and sighed when she walked away as I said I would like to check in. I now realize that the door says they closed at 4 but online it says open until 5 so I did not realize that and they did not mention it to me. The front desk then helped me register and spilt water on my paperwork, honest mistake. But she then said “sorry I have a horrible attitude”. The NP was very swift. The gentleman who helped me was very nice and it all ended up being pretty quick. Just the beginning was very odd as someone who has worked in healthcare for 7 years.

I was able to choose a Quest lab location and schedule an appointment. Check in was easy, and I only needed to provide my name and DOB. They were able to locate my order in their system. They were already aware that my labs were paid for prior to the appointment. I had my labs done on a Wednesday, and I received my results by Saturday. Great experience.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the CDC, anyone who has been exposed to blood or body fluids of an infected person, shared needles or syringes, or had unprotected sex with multiple partners should get tested for hepatitis. This also includes individuals who have traveled to countries with high rates of hepatitis, have a family member with hepatitis, or are born to a mother with hepatitis. It's also recommended for anyone who has ever injected drugs, even if it was just once or many years ago.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial as it can lead to serious health problems if left untreated, including liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Early detection can help prevent these complications and ensure appropriate treatment. Moreover, knowing your hepatitis status can help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Hepatitis testing options in St. Pete Beach, FL:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers and walk-in clinics in St. Pete Beach, such as Professional Urgent Care Services in nearby St. Petersburg, offer hepatitis testing services. These facilities provide quick, convenient testing options without the need for an appointment.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers can also conduct hepatitis testing. If you have a regular doctor, you can request a hepatitis test during a routine check-up.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers in and around St. Pete Beach may offer free or low-cost hepatitis testing. It's important to check with the specific center for availability and cost.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for hepatitis are also available. These kits can be ordered online and used in the privacy of your own home. The samples are then sent to a lab for testing.

Prevalence of hepatitis in St. Pete Beach

While specific data for St. Pete Beach is not readily available, Pinellas County, where St. Pete Beach is located, has seen a steady increase in hepatitis cases over the past few years, echoing the national trend. This increase could be attributed to several factors, including increased testing and awareness, as well as the ongoing opioid crisis which has led to an increase in shared needle use.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in St. Pete Beach

Risk factors for hepatitis in St. Pete Beach are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex with multiple partners, sharing needles or syringes, having a family member with hepatitis, and traveling to countries with high rates of the disease.

Other STDs in St. Pete Beach

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also prevalent in St. Pete Beach. As with hepatitis, these diseases can be detected through testing at local clinics, primary care providers, or at-home testing kits. It's important to note that the presence of one STD can increase the risk of contracting another, making regular testing crucial for those at risk.
