My husband & I tested positive for COVID this AM. We both were able to very conveniently make online appointments for medical evaluations within 30 minutes of our requests. The UC Village-Albany Urgent Care clinic is modern and attractive with highly efficient, very welcoming, friendly, professional & personable administrative and medical staffs. All of the medical personnel have very kind and empathetic bedside manners and listened very well to (and heard!) and were responsive to our medical concerns and questions. We both were in and out of our appointments within 30 minutes. We are very appreciative and truly grateful to have your clinic so conveniently located near our home. Please keep up the great work!

I made my appointment online and was able to get an appointment for two hours later. Once there, I had to wait 45 minutes to be seen, but luckily my schedule allowed for the wait. Perhaps the Staff needed more time with other patients. I received the care I needed, and I recommend this Clinic.

I was able to schedule a 9:00 appointment during the early morning hours.  We had to wait for two other people to check in.  Given the increased volume of patients and people without appointments, we were taken back very quickly.   The doctor was very kind and thorough in her examination.  Her diagnosis was accurate.  I would recommend this provider with respect to the doctor we saw.  We had been to the urgent care the night before, right before they closed and that doctor was not thorough.  He didn’t look at my son’s nose or throat or check his breathing.

Overall I was very happy and satisfied with my visit. Scheduling, check in and check out was seamless. I just waited for a bit because I probably came in at a time when they were so busy. Everyone was friendly and the place was clean and accessible. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends. Thanks and keep it up. 😇

Melanie went out of her way to accommodate my husband and me when we came in to get Covid tests. Due to our unforeseen scheduling error, we didn't have an appointment at that time, but she said we could wait in case she could fit us in between patients, even though they were fully booked. She was able to complete our tests quickly and courteously. We were extremely pleased with the care we received. Thanks, Melanie!

Overview of STD Testing in Richmond

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those with multiple sexual partners or those who do not consistently use protection during sex. According to the CDC, certain groups are at a higher risk, including young people aged 15-24, men who have sex with men, and pregnant women. In Richmond, CA, it's important for individuals within these demographics to get tested regularly to help maintain their health and prevent the spread of STDs in the community.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. First, many STDs do not show symptoms, meaning you could be infected and unknowingly spreading the disease to others. Second, untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased risk of HIV. Lastly, getting tested allows for early detection and treatment, which can significantly reduce the risk of these complications. In Richmond, where STD rates are a concern, regular testing is a critical part of maintaining public health.

These facilities often offer same-day or next-day appointments, and you can book through Solv’s website or mobile app. One highly-rated option is Carbon Health Urgent Care, located at 411 3rd St, Richmond, CA 94801.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who are underinsured, free STD testing is available at community health centers in and around Richmond. These centers provide confidential testing and treatment, often on a sliding scale based on income.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Richmond

According to the CDC, Richmond, located in Contra Costa County, has seen a steady increase in STD rates over the past decade, mirroring national trends. This includes increases in chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases. Compared to nearby counties like San Mateo and Yolo, Contra Costa County has a higher prevalence of STDs, underscoring the importance of regular testing in the Richmond area.

Risk factors related to STDs in Richmond

Several risk factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Richmond. These include a high rate of unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and a lack of regular testing. Socioeconomic factors, such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare, also play a role. Additionally, stigma around STDs can deter individuals from getting tested and treated. Addressing these risk factors is crucial in reducing the spread of STDs in Richmond.
