The staff was cordial and vey helpful. The check-in was easy enough with a little help from the receptionist . The doctor or PA listened to the issues and recommended what was needed. In my case, I needed an antibiotic which I’m taking 2 x per day. Also recommended nasal spray and Tylenol. She was extremely sympathetic and caring . This prompt MD was better than my previous one in Edgewater.

My visit required a follow up later in the afternoon, which was botched up at each step. Different prescriptions were supposed to be sent to the pharmacy that never came over and by the time they did come over the pharmacy closed hours later. Then the prescription that was resent was the same one as earlier in the day and the insurance company refused to cover it obviously. Communication and follow through was horrible.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

It’s impossible to hear the girl at the front desk, but the woman that took our Covid test was fantastic with a ton of personality!

- Verified patient on 3/16

Waited over an hour just for a covid test. I was not being seen by a doctor just needed the test. Seemed like they were really taking their time.

- Verified patient on 9/12

Your fascility was one of a few that offered the 15 minute covid test without an appointment. I am very thankful for that since I was feeling very ill and i was in desperate need . Excellent fascility !!

- Verified patient on 2/10

First and foremost this was my first time visiting this location for Covid-19 testing. I’m a essential employee and I need it to get this test done prior going family gateway. 🔴 I had a great experience with a staff and negative experience with their process! As a manager with more than 20 years of experience, I have to share the following observations: Andre the employee at registration was great, very professional, but most important very positive! My initial experience with him from the phone, to in person registration was impressive. I hope the new management is able to retain and recognize this employee for his potential and skills; it brings value to the business. 🟠 On the other note, it seems that moral at this place with rest of employees needs some improvement. 🔴 Lastly, I got a COVID testing done within reasonable time frame prior my trip, and I follow the specific instructions that I was provided obtain the results through the LabCorp portal. I never received my results, neither the few individuals that I recommended to this facility. As result, it shortened my Valentine’s Family Gateway for me and others. I contacted this facility several times after my testing and I was not able to get hold of anyone. It costed me time, money and inconvenience. 🟡 I want to be clear, Riverside and its affiliates needs to be responsible to ensure that their partners are delivering to their standards! 🔴 It’s unacceptable for me to waste time and efforts in trying to get in contact with LabCorp when they are your provider. I will recommend to the new management of this facility to revisit this situation since it creating a poor and unpleasant experience and not delivering to the expectations. If you want to increase your revenue from COVID Testing, then focus on the efficiency and patient experience.

- Verified patient on 2/17

Check in process was unclear, and I stood with others for an hour outside right when they opened until I was able to get to the front desk (even though there were not many people there). Once I was checked in everything went smoothly. Waited in the car for a phone call saying I could go in to a room. COVID testing was easy and doctors were friendly. I did hear the staff yelling patient test results, with names, across the facility.

- Verified patient on 12/21

Just the usually complaints waited to long but staff is friendly just would like to see covid test done quicker you shouldn’t have to wait that long for 5 min test

- Verified patient on 9/30

First time going to Riverside urgent care , I needed a Covid test and I'm very happy that I chose Riverside urgent care. Great medical office, wonderful and warm experience from start to finish. The entire staff was very professional, courteous, and very helpful. Thank you

- Verified patient on 2/4

I had a 10 a.m. appointment for a covid test, at least two people walked in after me and went in to the doctor before me, more than two people actually, I didn’t get in to have the test done or see the doctor until after 11 a.m. When I asked the receptionist about it she said she can’t tell me the reason for other people’s visit, I didn’t ask her for the reason, I knew the reasons because patients coming in discuss their reason with the receptionist out in the open anyone sitting and waiting will hear their reason, this has nothing to do with the receptionist, I’m sure she was just doing her job, but it’s not a good way of doing business, I wasn’t feeling wellI have a sinus infection, when you don’t feel good having to wait way past your appointment time is not good, there was no reason to keep bypassing me. That’s not right.

- Verified patient on 11/28

I was so glad to know that this facility was offering rapid covid testing. I found it difficult to find a place that could accommodate my wife and me.

- Verified patient on 9/24

We came in to get a COVID test because of travel. We were clear with the front desk we wanted a rapid test as we were leaving in 48 hours . 26 hours later we were still waiting for the results and when we called back the wrong test was ordered. We have to go back tomorrow to get the correct test

- Verified patient on 8/11

My wife and i had *** and *** am appts on 9/17/21 for covid testing. We both checked in around 10:45. I was not seen until about 12:15 my wife around 12:30. The wait was surprising for a 5 min visit with the nurse / tech. Who was excellent. A lot of confusion / frustration among scheduled patients vs walk-in patients with regard to who is / who should be next?

- Verified patient on 9/18

Everything went well with the entire experience until Dr. Patel visited me. He didn’t even come near me, stayed as far away that the room would allow. I had a Covid test which was negative but he refused to examine me. I have a cold, coughing and sneezing and I had to ask him to listen to my lungs, he wasn’t going to do that unless I asked. I told him that I’ve had this type of illness many times before and I needed a Z-Pak which always cured me in the past. He stated he doesn’t believe in antibiotics and would prefer I don’t take them and just ride it out fir the next 2 weeks, which would mean I would just suffer for 2 weeks. I had to insist on the Z-Pak and he finally reluctantly agreed. He reminded me multiple times that he was the doctor and I told him I know my own body and my history. His bedside manner is terrible, too strong in his beliefs which are misguided.

- Verified patient on 10/26

My husband and I have been there before and the wait wasn’t bad at all. Today we checked in at 1:53pm and sat in car until we got the call at 3:07. Almost an hour and 20 minutes. Then we both got the rapid Covid test. We then sat in waiting room and watched people who came after us get called in. When we did get called in they left us in the room and said the doctor would be in after they tested us both. He came in almost half hour later and asked us why we were there which I thought was odd as we just took the Covid test, but during that time we had heard a woman outside the door say room 3 which was us tested positive. That was about 10-15 minutes into the half hour we waited. We were on pins and needles after hearing her say that out loud while waiting for the doctor to come in with the actual results. We both tested positive. Just the length of our visit and our personal information about the results of our test being announced outside our room was a not a good experience for our visit today.

- Verified patient on 3/9

Surprising wait considering relatively few people were in the waiting area. This made me nervous as I was there for a pre-employment drug test, while many of the others in the waiting room were there for covid tests, and were not social distancing. The technician who eventually assisted me was very courteous, however.

- Verified patient on 9/28

It was a pretty long wait since all other patients were being Covid tested and I was seen last but the care was great along with the staff and cleanliness of the facility.

- Verified patient on 9/4

I booked three Covid test appointments for myself and two family members (4:00, 4:15 and 4:45). The receptionist said we could all arrive together and to arrive for the earliest appointment time. We arrived at 3:50 and were not seen until 5:20. Not sure what went wrong, but the hour and a half wait was very frustrating; as was the number of times we had to provide the same information (on the website and in person). But, Felicia, the nurse who administered our tests was GREAT! Friendly, gentle, reassuring and funny.

- Verified patient on 2/6

The nurse Felicia was amazing!!! First time I ever got a covid test that didn’t hurt!!!

- Verified patient on 10/20

I had come in for a COVID test that I needed for school. I’m so happy I came here. Even though I didn’t have an appointment the lady at the front desk put my name down and even called me back after a cancellation. When I got there, she was extremely friendly. I got the test quickly. Service was friendly, the place was clean, and the wait time was fairly short.

- Verified patient on 1/23

Check-in for COVID testing was scattered and confusing because some people arrived with reservations while others were walk-ins and there was no system or clear line to wait in. They told me the wait for testing would be 2-3 hours but it took 7 hours. I arrived at 9 AM, checked in at 9:45 AM and didn’t get a call until 4:30 PM. I left at 5:45 PM. Doctor was friendly and staff was generally friendly, too.

- Verified patient on 12/28

Always super great last time no wait at all for covid testing for my 3 boys. Facility manager was super great.

Nutley COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Nutley?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Nutley?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Nutley-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Nutley?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Nutley including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Nutley?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Nutley-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Nutley?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Nutley are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Nutley?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Nutley?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
